This is a short video covering the first flight of my new DJI Phantom Quadcopter. The first thing that you should do before flying your new machine is to watch the how to videos that DJI have uploaded to YouTube. They cover opening the box, attaching the propellers and landing gear all the way through to your first flight and more. It would also be a very good idea to download the user manual and then print a copy. My first flight was made on Tuesday 5th March, a sunny day with very little wind and in a large open field. I crash landed the Phantom because I closed the throttle to quickly, on my second flight I caught the Phantom by the landing gear, no problem! I used a Sony RX100, hand held to record the video.
The weirdest thing happened to me.. I was able to land very good and flying
around with this thing, then started flying near trees and I ended up
breaking 3 blades. Anyways ever since then I was unable to land properly
LOL, my Phantom always tip over and crashes like yours.
I’m looking to get a quad and have been shopping around a lot. I like the
Phantom but I don’t like it’s landing gear stance. I think I’ll go with the
Witespy just for the more stable gear. Happy flying!!!
I made an protection to propelers, it resolved this ridiculous landing, so,
this is near of final landing, first time i saw what the legs is little to
firsts users. i made a “X” using cover of groove (used to pass wires over
the wall), attatch on legs and the final after the point of propelers. When
this happen, the cover of groove prevents turn around. Found pic on flickr

The same happened to me at the beginning, I don’t land to the ground
anymore, just catch it in the air

Im fixing to buy the Phantom and gopro for aerial photography, can you tell
me how yours is working out??
I have only just got round to using my GoPro Hero3 Black edition on the
Phantom. I have used the original mount with some 4mm sorbothane between
the fixing and the body. Had to use some 10mm screws as the original ones
are only 6mm long. Results are a bit better some jello effect, but I’m not
going to spend a lot more money, just have fun with the Phantom. I have
used my GoPro to great effect on my cycle and garden railway.
Thanks, I agree on the spending of more money, I like the Gopro, and figure
it may be a better way to go versus the new Vision coming out, I like the
vision, but, will have to watch any youtube videos of others first, Hobbies
are expensive, for me, its just giving up that much money is hard.
BTW: I like Garden Railways,, when using your Gopro, is it possible to turn
the volume down on the camera to keep from hearing the motors on the
Phantom?
You can change the volume on playback but I have found no way to adjust
when recording! I have made several vids on garden railways with the GoPro
pushed around on a flat wagon (16mm scale). The camera does very well
hardly any vibration comes through onto the recording and the sound is good.

LUCKY YOU, soft crash !!! I’ve got one today, and (luckily ?) filmed it (on
my channel) low altitude, high speed, that was terrible, I was so pissed
off because the transmitter signal was lost and it wasn’t my fault !

Dont get a Phantom. People are buying these things for so much $, then
finding out there not the easiest things to fly, and boom there goes all
your money. Check out what my quadcopter can do for so much less $ than the
phantom

You did a good job hovering your quad. That was just a rookie mistake but I
wouldn’t consider that a crash but a hard landing. Good thing is that there
was no damage to your bird. Good job. Thumbs up. Happy flying.

agree it was a hard landing, but to me at the time it was a crash. Some
other viewers seem to have got very annoyed because my Phantom didn’t break
up when it hit the ground, I have had many successful flights since. 🙂
