Review: Runcam 3 HD FPV recording camera (beware the card-slot)
If you are looking for an HD recording camera with a GoPro Session form-factor for racing drones and RC planes then the Runcam 3 is a low-cost option. I really loved this camera, right up until the moment that the microSD card fell inside. On any other camera this might not be too much of a problem — just take the back off, remove the card and reassemble but on the Runcam 3 it is not so simple at all and now I have a camera that no longer works after just 1 day.
It’s pretty good value for $99 but you will have to be incredibly diligent that you insert the microSD card at exactly 90 degrees to the case or you could have the same problem.
MicroSD card problems aside, it’s a nice little camera that is pretty good value for the price — but please Runcam, sort out that issue!
Pro’s:
– good price-point
– video is sharp with accurate colors and great WDR
– GoPro Session form-factor is great for miniquads
– Battery delivers over 60 minutes recording time per charge
– Gorilla-glass lens protector
Cons:
– swallows microSD cards if you’re not careful
– no smartphone app available at the time of testing
– no adjustment for mic sensitivity
– no replaceable battery
Bottom line:
I’ll see how Runcam respond to the microSD problem before giving a final verdict. It would be a shame for such a nice camera to be blighted by such a simple problem.
you should do a review of the Polaroid Cube. Same price but better build quality.
543
quality looks pretty neat, pity bout that sd card slot
did you really just say silicone titty, LMFAO
Great review Bruce. Is it waterproof? Can you review the soft motor mounting on quads please?
Does he say there is a tiny little silicon tittie at 3:52? LoL Sold. I have a runcam 2 but it has no titties so its time to upgrade.
Can you PLEASE release the 3d printed runcam 2 camera holder?!?!?! ❤ or would your friend be willing to sell some printed camera holders? I can give you my email address if you need.
Nice once again & the tip about the sd card spot on as always still can’t quite decide if I’d rather have the 2-or-3 guess I’ll just need both LoL still cheeper then a single GoPro ?
I can see why you would want to replace the easier mounting, lower profile RG2 with a stupid cube. How you would have difficulty mounting an RC2 to anything is beyond me.
I reckon Runcam should have built a Transmitter dock (like Mobios have) and enable recording and AV transmission rather than reinvent the wheel ir should I say un aerodynamic ugly cube.
You should sell those 3d printed mounts for the run can 2 on ebay
maybe one day someone will come up with a filter to remove the whine from the props!
here some rumors about the next “cube cam” FOXEER 3 4K capable
If I can make some input. Looks like the black piece in the mount pops out. Then you should be able to use zipties straps etc.
secondly the GoPro session 2 is running 200$ in US
That takeoff was insane!
Those look like push connectors. You should be able to just push them in to connect them to the logic board, they will snap on.
They look pretty short though, might have to try inserting the board at an angle, use a screw driver to snap in the two push cables. It will be a delicate/precise operation so you’ll want someone with very small hands (Trump comes to mind)
By the way Bruce, is this patreon yours for sure? Want to make sure I’m not donating to some guy in Bangalore!
Great review Bruce. I hear from RunCam that they are working on the SD card slot issue right now, so consumers will not have to worry about it. Good stuff.
