Being a parent and a coach is not always so easy. My strategy was to let Chris ski and have fun. He dropped out of ski racing at age 7 after showing some good talent. But he kept on skiing and played around in the park and on snow blades.
After meeting Tina Maze, Marcel Hirscher and Ted Ligety at the Levi WC in 2014 he got super inspired and motivated to ski like them. He started to assist ski instructors in the local ski school and worked on his OLF retraction turns whenever he could. He quickly developed into a very strong all mountain skier.
Then suddenly at the age of 15 he got interested in ski racing again and the following year he got proper skis, boots and a speed suit. Rock’n’Roll! Went from the average Joe to great in one instance. He is easy to coach as he does what you tell him to. He is also super motivated and spends much of his spare time studying racing technique, mostly here on YouTube. Out on snow he does drills all day long. Check out the 14 Essential Drills For Ski Racers https://youtu.be/YdHnGNzr2uw as a reference.
Be patient. That is all I can say as a parent and a coach. Let the kids have fun and they will surprise you!

Such a nice improvement over time!!
Good memories to have in footage. Now it’s time to get into serious training and racing, and all the best of good luck for your career! ?
Very nice to watch that story over years! What are your goals in skiing? Want to pursue it on a competitive level? International races?
Good luck to you!
Great video! Keep racing!
Hi from toulouse in France next to the Pyrénées ^^you are welcome if you come ^^
Very positive ☺️?
The last year his balance improved leaps and bounds. And you are right, we may not always be the model for ski Technic but having fun is still the best part.
Verkligen trevligt att se både som film och som berättelse. Härligt med alla alpresorna. Lycka till i fortsättningen! (Jag tyckte mig uppfatta att ni är svensktalande)
Very motivational! Crossed fingers for your great son Chris! Keep pushing guys!
Great video and good progression! Two very important things that you have to work on: more weight on the downhill ski especially when you are making turn to the right so on your left leg and a little bit more attention on your upper body. That mistakes came from the early ages. Good Luck!
everything is very bad. You do not understand the technique of a cut-off turn (carving).
You need to contact the school of Kalle Palander or Tanja Poutiainen. This is the greatest masters of alpine skiing.
Bravo!
GREAT!!! Excellent video! Best of everything i’ve seen before! Go to WC and take a Big Globe!
Gefällt mir.
Hi, your hips and your back is inside duringthe curve, your weight must be on the downhill ski. You can try and ski on one leg, the right one for a left turn and the other foot for the right turn, you will fell it and your weight will be on the good side. If you want more angle, start the turn and throw your feets (no pressure nothing bout your weight) and facing the downhill putt maximum pressure on the outside ski. Hope you understand, my english is not so good. Take care (wiv your knees)
Very cool vid ! He just needs more vertical stance and proper arm balance. Keep up the good job.
Plant your pole.
