you aslo should use nylon screw pole to secure your esc . ya it might break but this is a drone lol . if it break there will be more then esc broken before
again , if your wire arent touching each other or the chassis that you cerakoted you shouldnt need the capacitor . i had the same issue on my big rig . and the tiny box they put on the startor is useless . airgap the wire and make sure they dont touch the chassis anywhere and your issue is solved. ( assuming you are using nylon screw or other non metallic screw )
I’m a man from Norway at the same age as( I think?) Grumpy Greg. Must say that I have seen a lot of UAV’s video’s. As always this video is just great!!! How long does a drone like this usually fly for?
I got involved with FPV racing as a part of my final year project at school. We used the same camera in our build at school however we never really got to see its performance as we were always flying indoors in the winter and there was too much interference in the big metal field house were we did test flights. We chose not to upgrade the motors on our build as they ate up too much of our budget and we couldn’t justify that their benefits were good enough for the build as a whole, however the motors on the ultralight build look sick. I’ve started with a miniwhoop to get used to FPV first and I fly in parks people come up to me and ask wtf I’m doing and I show them they think it’s sick too. Racing in 2019 will probably better than ever with all the new exposure FPV is getting more and more people will come up with better ideas. I look forward to building my own 5″ quad soon.

As mutch, i want to win one of the quads they are terrifying fast. I just fly like a few months now a small indoor drone. I ordered my self a jumpert12 for a train on a simulator i like freestyle and racing is there a quat what you suggest under 250g what i can use to start. I fly the most time fpv because the line of sight flying is not so easy

I just got a f100 ghost basically bugs 3 and been dying to get in to racing and fpv been slowly try to get everything necessary for a bid but budget wont allow it.

I had never actually heard about FPV racing before, until I saw two guys in my local park racing around earlier today and I went up to them and started asking some questions about their quads, how to get started etc, and they pointed me to this YouTube channel. I like the lightweight builds, the fact their 6s, good parts all around. I like that Uav gets people into fpv.
A few things.
1. Love the content Stew. Thanks for all that you do.
2. Get a dynamite GPS speed meter. Yes it adds a little weight, but its way more accurate and safer than a radar gun.
3. Challenge. Build a 6s drag quad and see if you can top 159 mph! lol. check my vids.

For giveaway: I like how interchangeable these things are to swap out different components for your flight style. I could take some of these components and add them to the $99 build to get something in between. I think racing will become more popular as people accept it as a competitive sport and more races are organized. Maybe we will have 6s races some day which would be crazy fun to watch!

Sir, This channel has been one of the 1st channels I have seen after watching Awe-inspiring Freestyling by Le Drib & Mr Steele. I want to participate in fpv racing.
What I like about these builds are they are so versatile. You can mix and match components to get the perfect drone for you. If a person, thinking about joining the hobby, looks at what you guys have made, it gives them the confidence that that too could do it. I know this is true because I also want to join the hobby but since am young (sigh) can’t build it just yet because…Parents! Racing in 2019 will be interesting as there are soo many opportunities for people to get into drone racing because of their versatility. Now, you can mix and match your parts and build them yourself. Technology truly has come a long way.
My friend showed me this channel because he really wanted to get into fpv with him. I’m really hoping I would get one so I can start flying with him. I’ve only flown an fpv 5 times so I would prolly change the motors to lower spec one so I’d be able to control it somewhat.
I have wanted to build a drone, so a few days ago I started my research about what to buy and I saw all your previous build videos, but I heard from many people that a first drone should be bought and not made as buying is easier and saves time and I can avoid errors which might occur while. Building. The components in your build are just amazing, I mean 6s that’s one heck of a punch in a drone.
Really like the fact that these builds, despite not costing $99 are actually still quite affordable compared to pro drones in the old days, and still look super cool especially the Xing motors and frame design. I think cheaper drones are so necessary to lower the barriers to entry to racing, hopefully one day a full 5 inch race drone costs <$99!
Your video on the meatyboy got me hooked on this hobby. Now seeing a few months later a complete custom build that more than compares to the meatyboy blows my mind. Excellent work gentlemen.

I want to know about throttle expo and curve . i know they exist . i want to know how people are getting as much resolution and really finding the middle so to speak . and what are some suggested settings for the amount of expo in betaflight . i downloaded the drl sim when it was free and tried one of the races and all other racers were very locked in and i could not keep up .. It was on the practice track . yes i was in acro . and i had quite a bit of flight experience at the time . it seems to be the only thing i cant get right . . what are the throttle curve and expo secrets !?!.

I’d like to win this comp because racing in 2019 has moved so far forward compared to literally just a year ago. I’ve been hoping to get my own drone but haven’t been able to afford one. Also I want to make some edits to a drone on the machine shops offered at my university to see how personalized and potentially marketable I can make a drone
I like that ESC stack you have at the middle. I have been attaching my ESC’s on the arms. This stack idea seems like a better way to go.
I liked how the drone is fast and i also liked how light it is compared to how much it can do. Drone, nowadays became more compact unlike before which needs a lot more parts in order to build it. This drone is amazing on what it can do compared to the price.
Last drone i had was the eachine Wizzard and raced a few times.

I think that the builds are very nice looking, I dunno much about how it would feel as I haven’t used either of them or the components in them. But the fact that you can build such a good quad for 200 ish dollars is really speaking where the hobby is going.
First, love the videos! As far as the quads themselves, I love stretched X frames, the load is in the middle and helps to balance out the quad and tuning for me is easier with this frame style vs the normal ones. This is also based off of the gyro effect of the props. The idea of 6s isn’t my idea as speed isn’t what normally wins but being calm and collected and finding the right line to run. Most current tracks do not have straight aways and there is always a turn or two within very close together.
Those look so fun amd would get the kids outside for sure and with a smile on everyone’s face

What I dig and like about those builds is that it shows the progress of the entire FPV quadcopter industry. Not only to we get to see the cost of these powerful devices go down but companies have been able to fine tune them and also dedicate enough time to look good as well! Making them flashy and cool while also being sleek and minimalistic makes them look very attractive to me. And that ties in with racing as well. I think one great thing coming to racing is real time telemetry of each quad while racing. Kinda like they do in car races, and it could show speed and battery level and motor stats 🙂

I built a FPV racer in 2015, sadly I couldn’t really get any friends to get one for themselves, so it wasnt too long before I sold everything. I’ve been itching to try again, but this time probably keep the FPV- and radio equipment a little more affordable.
I really like how far, it seems, FPV and drones have come since then, 2015 is not really that long ago, but seems like alot has happened. There are better goggles for alot cheaper, alot of different radio styles to chose from now and the quads seem to be alot simpler and maybe alot more durable now, popping an ESC was pretty common and burnt out one of my KISS ESCs the first time out in 2015.
Anyways, the motors look so cool, the paintsplatter looks sick, and so does the rainbow effect on the light quad. And the fact that they take 6S batteries is insane to me.
Racing in 2019 getting big, we just got the first little drone racing clubs in my Region of Germany so I hope I get picked for the giveaway to rock and hopefully win some races with this little boy. Very nice Style with these Pink / Rainbow Motor casings. The Frame looks Beautiful but do u know how rigid it is? seems a little thin. Building was like a charme u are very fast with it. So overall very Nice looking beautiful quads with the a lot better components then I use currently. Greetings from Germany.
if you do a 99$ build for 2019 i’m definitely going to build it, also instead of calling it a “99$” dollar build try if you could to say exactly how much it is because i found that after you purchase a headset and a controller the price goes way up. Thanks again for the awesome videos!

Less face and more focus on what you’re doing (more zoom!!). Also, the camera perspective of across the table, is as helpful as listening to this as a podcast. Great for a review, not for a “how to build” video. /end rant. Otherwise keep up the good work reppin Aus in the world of drones.
I dont know much about what components to talk about as I am just getting into this, I have flown camera drones for so long and now I am in my 3rd week of flying FPV, I count on this channel for ALL of my learning and choosing drones for FPV! Plus grumpy trev is hilarious on his channel.
I have had those motors for about 6 months now … I am able to get 121mph out of 4S packs … They are great motors
A feature I like and would recommend is the “low power disarm” in the VTX menu in Betaflight.
The VTX gets hot when powered on and if you are making some adjustments or tweaking your drone on the bench it’s better to use lowest output power on the VTX and higher when flying.
That is exactly what ” low power disarm” does.
A little disappointed not to see this being mentioned in the second video where Stew setup smart audio.
Anyway good videos from UAV like always. Entertaining.

When does enter time end?
So. The Ultralight. In my opinion, this is a well optimised quad which you can up or downgrade to fit your needs. I personally agree with the choices You made with the components, all in all You picked solid and reliable hardware that is available to nearly everyone.
In 2019 I hope that racing will get more attention from non-fpv people, to let them see our hobby. Seeing it and trying it are obviously different things but at almost every event there are pilots willing to let strangers look into their googles and feel what its like to fly a quad. I also hope tech will improve and prices go down to make it even more accesible but the main goal for 2019 for me is just to spread this awesome hobby everywhere.
I come from Switzerland and here FPV is really scary, unapproved and new to most but those who have tried it through me or other pilots are nearly all active now.

I love how fpv has come so far since it first was founded, with technology growing fast. Amazing new things are coming out daily, motors especially. Therefore the most favourite part about these builds are the motors, elegant and fast.
These builds are so cool! They are so polished and compact and to get this kind of speed from such a small quad is insane! Racing in 2019 has really taken a turn for the better and there are so many new improvements and technology!

Great Video! I am just now getting into FPV flying. I’ve been flying my Phantom 3 Standard for a bit over 2 years along with some micro quad without cameras. But after watching Stu’s videos I decided to take the plunge. I just started out with a $30 Box goggle and a $16 camera on my eachine e010 (or some other kind of brand) and love it. I like how this build is a great start for racing but I will probably go with something a bit less powerful. Any suggestions on something to get me into Acro flying? I’m using a Beta65s lite FC they I built and want something just a bit stronger.

Im more of a fixed wing guy that got stuck comfortable with spektrum, now getting into fpv. I have the inductrix bl (made for spektrum) and want an upgrade soon. Sorry for the noobish question but is the receiver built into the iflight stack then? How would i build something like this for spektrum?

I Do believe that you have a great potential to go over 1Milion subscribers, the only issue for that is the (time) of each episode. Each episode should not go more than 5 Minutes.

So i think both of these drones are just sick (especially the microswift is just awesome in my opinion) and i think its awesome that you show how easy it is to build a drone on your own! I currently have a 4s rtf drone but the more i watch your videos i can feel that my next drone is a 6s build on my own, because i think 6s is just the thing to go with when u wankt to race in 2019 imo!

The FLYWOO Vampire Frame has a 22mm wide space for the camera. But all Mico sized Cameras are only 19mm wide.

amazing builds, always love the build videos because it looks so fun to build a drone and have some fun figuring out how to put them together instead of just buying them finished also love how you went for a really performance packed build for a bit more money, even though if i were to get great goggles it would cost a lot. By the way amazing how they can go 185 km/h, and the motors are beautiful, just amazing, the cameras also just amazing. I am just beginning with fpv racing so i don’t know too much about it but I think that racing in 2019 will be a lot more fun and a lot more popular and faster for cheaper. Hope I win 😉
I’m new to fpv racing, (I haven’t even got a fpv drone) but I really like that they’re made out of carbon and that the rotors are so fast even with the GoPro. I think 2019 will be a great year for drone racing, but again I’m new so I don’t really know stuff.

To start things off, I know little about quads (relatively), but hope that my opinion on these matters is similar to those with more experience!
I do believe that the fact that each part in these two quads is interchangeable is amazing, as from the little experience I have, I’ve noticed this isn’t too easy of a feat, when people with different preferences are building separate quads. Of course, I think the fact that these builds are racing-focused is quite great; I was looking to build a racing-focused quad, and of course Stuart once again comes to the rescue; just as he did when i first wanted to build a quad. Honestly, just the fact that UAVfutures and someone he trusts picked these parts is enough of a reason for me to buy them.
I really do hope that footage of racing (such as the footage in the video) inspires newcomers such as myself to become more skilled in drone racing. Better technology and the increase of pilots has made the gap in speed between the best and worst pilots quite large, and this may discourage beginners who want to race to even try. I believe racing is at least a major goal pilots have when they are building their first fpv drones, and so I truly hope that the proof of potential (flight clips) that come with these build videos inspire others to become our fellow hobbyists.

Sounds like it will fly real fast to me with those components. I would put it on the 3inch though as then it will be even more portable and being smaller it will survive crashes much better. I feel like the bigger frames can bend arms. (not the best flier myself haha)
Hi mate, I’ve been watching you for the last couple of years. I think since the first 99 buck drone build quide. That video was probably one of the first videos I watched which made me give the hobby a try which resulted in so much fun. Love the hobby and if it wasn’t for people and channel like yours well I don’t know I guess many would have different hobbies lol. Props to you and your hard work. This current crazy fast builds are amazing what I love about it are you used higher quality parts with no compromises. I prefer really the liter smaller builds as more portable and crash proof. (that’s not an indication of my skills) hahaha.. Maybe. I think for 2019 the future of drone racing is going to be about faster flying with bigger power. what i love about these builds is the power! because what’s the point in anything if it doesn’t have too much power! i think FPV Drone racing should be promoted alot more globally as a hobby for anyone who is willing to dive in. i love them xing motors soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo smoooootheeeee!
im sure you could 3d print a gopro hero 7 mount for it but i wouldn’t recommend it, you would be altering the CG (Center of Gravity) a lot and that will seriously affect handling. as for flight time, not a hope of getting 5 mins when your racing like that. you will get longer flight times if you freestyle or cruise around but these quads are not for any of that. they are die-hard racing machines!
@PRyan FPV yea I think I’ll be going for a long range build, I just purchased Fatshark Hdo with the immersionRC module, FrSky Qx7 and TBS crossfire Transmitter, some props and something else. Jeez it gets expensive I’m already well over 1k in my countries currency lol I guess I’ll need another 500+ or so for drone parts, tryna build something close to Johnny fpv or this other guy sozo their cinematic stuff is epic

qqwg12345 by receiver, I’m guessing you mean for the video. You can receive video through fpv goggles, or through a stand-alone system more commonly connected to a small display. If this is what you’re looking for then you want to look for a 5.8ghz system.
There are a multitude of in depth guides right here on YouTube. I would suggest searching for fpv beginners guides etc, this will more than likely bring you up to speed with all the terminology and hardware used in the hobby. Hope this helped.

I love the sleek frames in both builds. Those bad boys look like they would stand up to years worth of beatings and crashes. And they can be very inexpensive as well. Same goes for the motors: they show great performance and look absolutely outstanding. That’s the thing about FPV in 2019. Parts such as motors, ESC’s, FC’s, Props, and more can be high performance, but at a low cost. I think that there will be a breakthrough in the upcoming months with drones that showcase speed, stability, strength and great looks. Thanks for the great videos and guides Stew!

Yes, Stew first build ($99 build) got me into building quads. Now I’m hooked. Highly recommend building one that way you know how to fix after crashes.

For my first build I used the FlySky FS-i6 as a controller. The goggles I have are the Eachine EV800D. Slowly am getting better equipment. However, I am happy with that as a first buy. I have a few (not great) videos showing some of the equipment with links. Just in case you are curious.

The light version is amazing but not as fast as the performance version. But then again it uses less power making it extremely efficient. What I love about these builds is the customization factor you put in them. This is extremely helpful since u can personalize your drone making it efficient and also less expensive by not wasting much money on other components. Drone racing in 2019 is much more better than before since there are new companies who make components cheaper and the overall sport easy to pick up

where is the battery? when does the battery get put in?
Pushing the drone around with the soldering iron, holding it on there too long and complaining about using pliers because the wires get hot (surprised you didnt burn the board btw), unnecessary talking and not enough explaining, liking viewers question comments but not answering their questions. Nice.
This Video doesn’t cover 2 important things:
1. What FPV goggles will work with this drone and how to set them up
2. What is the recommended battery and how to install it
Can someone please advise on above?
This build is well over 200$ now
any fpv goggles will work as they can all cycle between frequencys (also called channels), so even if you get $60 box goggles or fat shark HDOs it will always work, just switch between the channels on what ever goggles you find until your quad camera replaces the static.
for battery’s its a bit more complicated, for these quads you will need a LIPO (lithium polymer) battery. for both quads its will be a 6s (6 is how many cells) and around 75-150c at 1000-1500Mah would be the best, i personally am running 4s because my quad is older but will be making the switch to 6s when i can afford it.
also the XT60 is where the battery plugs in to and a battery strap is used to hold the battery to the underside of the quad , if you want more details there are many vids on youtube that can help you with these things

Nice builds but I would definitely change the vtx to tbs since in most races not all vtx’s are allowed and in some tbs is required.

The only downside to this video is that you never did a close up of the camera’s after they were mounted. Did you use spacers to get the camera’s mounted or something else?

@Ex.CEll I had to go out and buy some longer M2 screws to mount my runcam, went with 2x6mm and then used some spacers to center the camera on the Vampire frame.

My Son is a Physic Major at at NC State Engineering school. I got My degrees in EE, Mathematics and Physics at Va Tech.
We are currently doing our own due dilligengengence and buildinding drones from scratch to race each other this summer for $1000.
We don’t share any info but talk a lot of smack… We agreed on certain specs to follow (frame size, prop size. Everything else is a free for all.) We live on a lake the course will be to travel through a number of boat houses and under and over docks. Can’t wait. Hope to develope a croud and get more people interested… even in if it’s different sizes/classes.

Hi. I built a DIY fpv some time ago following UAV Futures instructions. The fpv is super unstable and keeps crashing. Starting to get fed up with it. Is there anything you can recommend to stabilize it? I was thinking if installing a GPS. Any thought would be most welcome.

Hi Im new to fvp and I bought a rtf emaz tynyhawk 2 its been a month and Im still waitting in the mail for it. Meanwhile Ive been reading about drone components how they work and what they do. Like the video transmitters and receivers Its been a little complicated to understand but i think I got the basics. I came to realize that its better to build your own fvp drone according to what you want to do with it. Thats why I have been watching videos like this so that I can build my own. I like the smaller drone the one in the 230$ range. I also have some questions but they may get answered after wacthing some of your videos on your playlist

Made my own wire off my power supply with 2 inch clips that fit the bolts coming out of my power supply, old, 30 amp . To xt60 and bought wire with banana plugs that I cut off and put on xt60. Also your battery set up. Power supply wire also fits SC 620 charger
