With the new Canadian drone rules came updated penalties for breaking the rules. Break a rule, the minimum fine is $1,000 so it pays to know the rules and play within them. In this video I go over 5 of the new rules, which I think would be the first things you would get asked for if you were challenged by a Peace Officer or other authority. Things like recency requirements, documentation, operating manuals, registration and more. Hopefully by watching this video and applying a little preparation you can save yourself some heartache down the road.

Hey Steve thanks for the informative video ??
Great video Steve! ????
Great video
This is the beginning of the end, please make a video about flying restrictions around the world
very informative video although im from the pihilippines but it helps to be a responsible drone pilot 🙂 i love the idea of having a flight & maintenance log
I thought it was bad just south of you… But what I don’t under stand is why a recreational pilot can fly at night, but a commercial license requires you to make a request to fly at night.
Very informative video,we have something similar coming to the UK soon, the problem is like so many things whether it is drones, air rifles, dirt bikes etc, only law abiding people get penalised,if you wanted to fly drugs into a prison you’re not going to apply for a license or keep a log of your flights,London is currently experiencing terrible knife crime, most of the perpetrators use common kitchen knives, you cannot legislate idiots or criminals.these laws will not stop illegal irresponsible drone use just force many recreational flyers to sell or give up their drones.
I thought after the exam I was good to go. Refresh again in two years??? If we need to keep registration and certificate at all times, I wish the government would allow us to print out a card size duplicate that we could fit in our wallets. Flight logs, maintenance logs, I see it as a method for the government to discourage hobbyists from pursuing this hobby. People have been flying drones for years without problems now. Those that caused problems will continue to do so no matter what.
Perfect you just made it so clear now for my side, however i am not so sure about any available regualtion on our side or not now i will have to search about that carefully and see how to move next. Thanks man for the good work, fly safe and cheers.
Hi Steve
Great video, your timing is great, because I’m a UK citizen coming to Vancouver area in August for 1 month & was wondering what I should do with regards to the recent change in Canadian regulations for flying drones.
I have a Mavic Pro, and here in the UK we currently don’t have any registration process (starts in November 2019).
We are currently required to abide by ‘The Drone Code’, which is a set of rules including VLOS and the usual height restrictions.
So to clarify, as a visitor, will I have to complete an exam or just an SFOC? & do I have to register my Drone?
Very confusing !!!!!
Great video, Steve. Very informative. Could you do a video of under 280 grams drones that are reliable. I have tried a few drones like the Cheerwing, and Eachine which although light do not perform reliably.
Hi Steve! I found your channel just few days ago after getting my spark and I really enjoy your videos and tips – they are really helpful! There’s one thing I didn’t find on your channel about spark and I really want to know your thoughts about it. How often and in what cases do you recommend to do calibration of imu and compass? I would really appreciate your thoughts since we’re going to visit Alps soon and I’m just really not sure if I should calibrate all those things when changing locations.
Hi steve I’m shocked by that video. Drone laws in Canada are really over the top making things really difficult for flying. Great video look forward to the next one(a flying 1 hopefully) ?
Are you sure these regulations were not done by brazilian government?? It looks like all Brazil”s bureaucracy went to Canada!
Very happy with your useful information. Actually I am living in Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. My country just ask us to apply for permission to fly from department of defense with details: pilot, drone specific, date time and location of flight at least a month before flying time.
Hey Steve, great summary of rules. A convenient way to meet the procedural requirements is to use my Drone Pilot Canada app. Links and videos on my channel.
Note to self, never travel to Canada with my drones. Wow, those rules where created to discourage.
Well said Steve , thank you for the great content and videos ! Cheers from Waterloo Ontario, Canada ??
