Want to learn to do more than just hover your quadcopter? This flight tutorial video will help you learn how to fly and turn your quadcopter. Horizontal translational flying is not obvious to most people. We’ll start the lesson with simple out and back flying, progress through rudder turns, and complete the lesson with an intro to banked turning. Quadcopters used in this video included the:

Which drone is Best to buy for a firsttimer. Not to expenciv. ???
I always recommend the one shown in this video, the Syma X5C for new fliers, due to its excellent stability, durability, and ease of flying. And it even has a camera too. Use it to learn the basics of flight with. Let this cheap quadcopter take the inevitable crashes and bangs of a beginner flier. And if you break it, every part on it is cheap, widely available, and easily replaceable. Later as your flying skills improve and you’re not crashing as much, then consider something better/more expensive.
Thanks for this, it’ll be a big help in learning to be a better pilot.
Great video, Thanks, good work
call it a drone not a quadcopter
Hey 101! 🙂
I always enjoy a flattering compliment, right?
So, here’s a (real) thanks to you for this vid! Very helpful for beginners (me)! 🙂
I’have been learning this game for months and this the first really good
basic flight instruction I have seen on YouTube, many thanks !
How about X5SD instead of X5C
im planning to buy drone, I dont have any experience. Should I go to bugs 3 , syma x8c or Mi drone?
Alright, just incase if I already learn navigate the device, which do you prefer would I purchase? I want to do photography I also have the action yi cam
Mi drone is made for photography, and does it very well. But again, don’t learn to fly with it. It will likely be a very costly mistake to do such. All beginners crash, crash hard, and crash often as they learn what NOT to do, and learn how to maintain orientation on the quadcopter just by its movement alone. Crashing is an inevitable part of learning to fly. Crashing your Mi drone learning to fly would be very costly.
Syma X5C is $30 to $40 these days. An almost disposable drone, and perfect to learn to fly with.
alright, thank you for the advise 🙂
love your videos
Do you think i could remove gears and use the circuit boadr with motors in smaller frame such as hubsan h107l or eachine e011 by placing the propellers directly on top of the motors?
Thanks for the flying lesson as i am a new flier and due to winter approaching soon,i am practicing inside for now with my JJRC H5P mostly with the throttle until spring and then i am taking it out which hopefully a baseball field and then some will be enough space for practice as its not as big as this place but would be better than the park where i live at as there is a lot of trees around.
Also, i really enjoy your videos!
Aww man I wish I had seen this video sooner. I now still have to buy a new drone but now I know what to do this time.
Very helpful, thank you for your time and simple understandable wording and up close flight video of the functions. ??
Although it would have helped me more to see the movements of the controller sticks ?
He hit the flip
This was awesome! I have a Syma X5u and a MJX X600. I am a complete beginner, and this is what I have been doing, flying it out forward pitch, the backward pitch to bring it back, or I’ll do a square to add a little roll to it! For me, yes, if I accidentally yaw the copter, I loose orientation and have to figure things out fast or totally lose control. like and idiot, I took the MJX x600 out, in wind, and shit, that thing was 60 feet in the air in seconds and drifting with the wind, tried to thottle down, and simultaneously was adding yaw to the mix….SHIT! Figured out the orientation of the hex and luckily got it back! The x600, in my opinion is no beginner drone, that thing is powerful and fast, and can get away from a rookie like me! Thanks Quadcopter101 for this lesson!
Once again, thanks for making a good basic lesson series for beginners. I think part three is where the quad smacks into my forehead.
Nice tutorial. I also think quadcopter simulator is a very big help. The thing is, simulator controllers are very expensive while there are many simulators that are free. I’m hoping you can give me some idea.
Best is to learn without simulator using a toy grade quadcopter, similar to what I’m doing in this video. Later, when your skills have greatly improved, and if you wish to transition to racer quadcopter, then consider simulator programs.
Quadcopter 101 , i just broke a propeller of the Syma X8G! Getting better really isn’t easy.
Very important to fly in a large open area when learning to hover.
Been watching your videos for years! You’re absolutely awesome! Thanks for sharing your videos with us all! Just sent this to my 42 year old nefew! He wants to learn!
That was another good instructional video Thanks for the hard work it takes pitting these together
I have a question about the h502e. Trying it out for the first time I sent it up about 40 ft and 40 feet out. I had 9 satellites in an open field. I press the return to home button and the quad flu up about 10 ft and Hubbard but would not return home. Anything I can do to fix that?
When return to home is activated, if it’s below 30 meters it will first ascend to 30 meters before it starts its return flight. This is to avoid any obstacles it may encounter on its return flight (trees, telephone poles, buildings). Also, if you touch the sticks at any time during the return to home, this will abort the RTH (i.e. keep your hands off the sticks when doing a RTH, unless you want to stop the RTH). Try it again, but take it up above 30 meters and again keep your hands off the sticks. It should start its return flight a bit quicker. Also recommend waiting for more than 9 satellites before taking off for improved GPS position hold performance.
not all of us have access to area 51 lol
Thank you. Very informative. Suggestion: Please dont fly so far out or high… very hard to see the quad in the video.
This is very helpful for beginners 🙂
It’s gonna take me a while to get used to it
Ahí lo tienes con los motores originales?
Yes I do still have the original motors in my Syma X5C.
Quadcopter 101 wow genial amigo gracias
????
Hi: Just wanted to say I learned so much from watching this video. I should have watched this before we lost our first small quadcopter. You have a great methodical presentation style. I like how you emphasized practicing out and backs over and over – it works! We owe our basic piloting skills to you! Thanks for the great videos.
I could be wrong, but you sound like a native Pittsburgher for sure ?
Yinz aint wrong 😉 Here’s a video from before they made it illegal to fly in the parks in PGH
This is good but we always need to see your finger movements on the controls.
Thanks for this information it is quite helpful
very nice flying lessons, thanks so much, my friend 🙂
Great instructional video. Thank you.
Yip.. Awesome!! Cheers
But, it’s just a Quadcopter. Why do you have to say drone? WTF is this drone bullshit that everyone calls a Quadcopter a drone?
Thanks for your video my friend, it much help me fro instruction!
I am new friend, Hope keep in touch together..
Good vid ,But, I know a much better to teach first timers, 2 Thumbs- Right Thumb is Dumb Thumb, Left Thumb is smart Thumb , push forward on Right stick with dumb Thumb and leave it there, now learn to train your Left Thumb to’FLY THE DRONE’, simply learn to feather the throttle for altitude and quite simply steer the drone around with Yaw, don’t worry about roll on right stick ,this will come later’ remember , Right Thumb Dumb Thumb… Train the Smart Left Thumb,, trust me !
Nics video&good idea QuadCopter101, i am new in this drone-fly hobby, so this lessons i apriciate much! Thank! *_*
just thought id mention this .something ive found really cheap on bangood. for if you loose your quad .Loskii PT-10 Pet Tracker Dog Anti Lost Tracker Smart Bluetooth Tracer Locator Tag Alarm Tracer Finder Home Pet Anti Lost Device -small and light and theres a phone app for it Price:
3,85€
we need people like this in life. very important.
Quadcopter 101.. I am hearing about some new rules.. FAA Remote ID .. what is that all about. Thanks.
It’s a proposal ( not a rule). The FAA is soliciting people’s comments on including such on future drones that weigh more than 250 grams. If it becomes a rule, it would take at least a couple years to implement it.
Quadcopter 101 I have a technical question for you. I can not find anything on the internet so I thought I would ask you. I have a Dromida Kodo II quadcopter that stopped working – and let me explain that. I worked a day or so ago and now when I plug in the battery the back red LED lights blink and in the front only one blue LED one is on, solid. When I try to connect to the quadcopter, the back red LEDs stop blinking and go solid red and the controller beeps, The front blue LED goes off. I am thinking I have a shorted motor! Just a thought.. What do you think. Also, this was one of my first drones and I really like it..
Thanks again best to you. Richard
I would first suspect the battery. That model drone is several years old. Keep in mind that LiPo batteries only last for abut 2 years, after which they should be replaced. Even if they’ve never been used, they will go bad.
@Quadcopter 101 I will check it with a new battery.. I used the current battery a few days ago and recharged it.. But I will check it just to be sure. Let you know what happens. Thanks for getting back to me.
very helpful
