So far I’ve been lucky not to have very many product fails from HobbyKing but… one of the four 2206 Multistar Elite mini quadcopter motors I purchased last week would not turn when I took it out of the box — why?
Well it seems there was a small piece of magnetic material stuck between the bell-magnets and the stator polls. What was this piece of stuff and where did it come from? Was it a piece of the ring of glue that seems to have a hole in it around the bearing area?
This issue aside, I really like the fact that these motors have oversized bearings and shafts which should make them super-durable.
Stay tuned for the thrust and efficiency tests.
That type of issue is understandable as it looks like a broken c clip that
could have gotten picked up by the motor’s strong magnets after QC testing
when being boxed. I’ve learned to keep all motors in baggies to prevent
that from happening after losing a small screw I never did find….errr!
But drop a 45n small ball magnet in my back yard and you’ll pick up rocks a
lot bigger than that with a bunch of small ones. The gravel has a really
high iron content and is something to look out for as well.
Get what you pay for I guess..
good tip on the bag can not tell you how many time i been on the floor
looking for some thing
You sound a little like Dave from EEVblog, but not as hard to listen to :)
I then to forget how many and where the spacer washers go. Sometimes there
is one between the bell and stator assembly and often one washer under the
circlip.
Magnetic sprinkles. Lol?
2206 or perhaps 2306?
Looks like a fragment of a circlip to me. Maybe one failed during assembly
somewhere, and the motor picked it up as it was being boxed? I’m sure it
would have been tested so that is spins freely somewhere along the line –
given the balance goop that’s inside the bell and on one of the magnets.
Perhaps just one of those “shit happens” moments where it’s picked up that
metal shard during packing in the no-so-clean clean room?
Dyno tests please
I had exactly the same problem with the same motors! :D
When you said ” 2 are clockwise and 2 are counter clockwise ; i thought
you only had to switch 2 wires out of the three on a motor to get it to
spin in the other direction. ??
Have you put these motors on anything yet? How are the running?
How do I figure out what motor for what I want to build
I ordered 5 of these, and one had the exact same problem, it had a tiny
piece of c-clip or somthing stuck in the magnet, really disappointing, but
luckily it can be easily fixed.
They have updated the design it seems, still have the huge shaft and
bearings though hahahaha.
