just picked up one of these quads, and the directional antenna is annoying
on the tx and teh battery life is evils too, think i have a lipo tester and
bec hanging around thats a defo a mod i will make, but can you give any
info on the mods u made to the actual quad itself? hopfully a video on it
or pics. and do u sell or know were i can get a clover small enough for
it?
if you are in the Uk i can make you a cloverleaf for £10 bruv 🙂 ive made
many types of antennae watch?v=1ocUvJpulfs the quad is a total rebuild,
longer range fpv tx much better camera and antenna built into a removable
backpack with separate 100mah lipo to power it, i use infra x motors and
holders, cut down syma x1 arms and center frame,hubsan 107c fc props and
lights, 610mah custom made lipo to power the quad and i get approx 5 to 6
mins of flight at an auw of 62grams 🙂 i will make a video of it one day
soon 🙂 i also sell prebuilt fpv backpacks and custom quads
interesting, and yups i am in the uk. i have modded mine to take a
nano-tech 600mah 35-70C i use in my syma x1 (just removed the stock plug
and added a jst, i also have a quad thats a copy of the infra x (think they
are many versions of it) but its flight board took a hit, a laptop fell on
it. i have also fitted a mobile phone wide angle lense infront of the stock
camera (luckly it balances out the extra rear weight of the battery). its
alot easyer to fly now. i would be very interested in a price for the fpv
backpack and i will have a go myself at modding it with the 2 quads i no
longer fly. dammed good idea tbh, the motors from the infra x are more
powerful? and would just swapping out the boards on the infra-x for the
hubsan and using it that way be just as easy as modding the other airframe?

yep to infra x motors (i use them in this video) better lift and runtimes i
think 🙂 putting the x4 board on the infra x frame and motors should make a
verynice stable flier 😉 i got the parts and could knock one up for a quick
flight if you want? take me a few days though lol loads on right now
fpv backpack £50 with 2x lipos max weight 12grams i got one spare 🙂 also
comes with circular polarized antenna for your own rx 🙂

How difficult to switch to Mode 4 please ?
sorry i dont really know bruv ive only ever flown mode 2 as it makes the
most sense when flying multirotors

Throttle and Aileron on the left stick.
if would take a fair amout of soldering ie you will need to unsolder bith
sticks and swap them then select (hopefully if it exists) the mode 4
software so the sticks function correctly 🙁 i would just buy the mode 4 tx
if you can find it but if you can learn mode 2 now while ya new later on
you will be able to fly anything hobbygrade that sells in the shops 😉

there isnt any lag that ive noticed bruv but i use boscam vtx’s and proper
fpv cams and only use keychain cams for recording

bro i’m looking to do this mod on my h107d remote. i’m not tech savy but i
understood the video explainations. i have just a few questions if u don’t
mind helping a big kid out? do u by chance have a link for where u got you
6v output ubec. the ones ive found only look a little different than
yours….. does that even matter? and does the battery make a difference in
transmitting distance or its just about improving flight time? also, whats
with the add connector on the battery??? AND.. again… im not techy, but
quite mechanical lol. further… i’m not sure i understood the antenna set
up… u have one antenna on the side pointing downward, and one clover leaf
on top… could u clarify the set up a little bit?
the dome? thats a patch antenna just do that bit and forget the other bit

No 🙁 think of analogue tv or fm radio the best signal you will ever
recieve will be when you are in range of the broadcasting antenna (which is
a good quality long range tuned transmitting antenna) which is so good you
can pick up the signal with a simple wire correctly placed meaning its more
important to have the high quality antenna on your vtx 1st so it puts out
the best signal possible then work your magic on the receiving end 🙂
better quality signal is easier to receive over longer range

i see the pigtail antenna connector on the controller bro nice!how did you
solder that on?is just the white cord used or both from the pigtail solder
on cause theres just one black wire solderd on were do the other wire go ?
the black wire you see is from the original antenna bruv if you look close
you see one ring of solder then a shielded wire and another blob of solder
at the tip? twin wire like tv coa cable;) pause at 0:36 to see where center
and ground wires connect 😉

This thing broke for no reason and won’t bind to the controller . Be carful
buying from hubs an. I give honest reviews about the problems and pros in
quads,cars,trucks,boats,airplanes,and more!

Also, can you connect the video of the tx to another rx fpv module?
do you know the frequency you were transmitting on? might just need to
change channels in the tx ;0 i use what is now called boscam vtxs set to
5945 last channel in hubsan vtx works fine:)
+0n3m1s1s0 Thank you so much for your help. The FPV camera is transmitting
on 5740. I can pick it up easily with my fatshark but the hubsan
transmitter is unable to get any video.
Here’s what I’ve tried:
1. Power up hubsan tx & bind to drone
2. Change tx to channel 5740
3. Disconnect drone (I’ve also tried keeping the drone on as it no longer
has a FPV unit attached to it, so I get no video in the TX anyways (I do
see the telemetry information, batt, time, etc) 🙂
4. Power up FPV system in channel 5740.
Fatshark sees video but there is no video in the transmitter 🙁
ok long shot but try this bruv
install brand new set of batteries in the hubsan vrx transmitter
hold cyclic stick while tx is switched off and PUSH/PRESS inwards till you
hear the button click
now keeping the button pressed on (underneath0 ) cyclic turn on hubsan tx 🙂
you are now in hacker mode 🙂
notice all functions are now at yr disposal without binding to anything?
release cyclic
hold cyclic down (press in again) and go through the menu to set desired
channel to 5740
exit to main screen and leave tx switched on
NOW turn on your fpv setup (camera vtx) and set it to 5740
do you get a picture try 5735 and 5745 aswell from camera IF you can
NO LUCK? report back! GET PICTURE? report back!
do you know what channels your fatsharks work on? list please 🙂 also yr

Hopefully this will help others in the future.
When you turn the remote on in hacker mode the 2.4ghz and 5.8ghz are set
and cannot be changed. You can go to the menu but they don’t do anything.
The curious thing I found is that if you use different buttons to get into
hacker mode you get different set frequencies 🙂
Hold Right stick + power on tx: 2480 & 5945
Hold Left stick + power on tx: 2440 & 5845
Hold Left top button (review video button) + power on tx: 2400 & 5745
I couldn’t find any other combination but this was enough to find a
frequency that coincides with the one my receiver has and voila. The remote
is so good that in hacker mode it allows recording of what the receiver
sees!!!!!
This is exactly like a ground station and perfect for what I wanted.

up and down cyclic moves you up and don through the menu screen
left and right cyclic CHANGES values on any given menu 🙂
if you redo above post with this posts fresh info and get it right yr
hubsan tx will ALWAYS turn on with the channel you chose instead of a
random fpv channel 🙂
Interestingo to see that one of the antennas is a biquad feed, and a such
somewhat directional.
yes indeed but being directional isnt a bad thing in this case as in theory
its longer range bruv 🙂 problem is THAT biquad is too narrow a beam for
the antenna thats on the quad 🙁 simple fix 🙂 add wider beam directional
patch for long range (i use a 90deg patch) or circular polarized antenna if
you want to fly close but all round you to the vrx and matching antenna to
vtx and your good to go 🙂

also how are you recording onto the sd card it is not playing for me when i
try to view on computer and i have formatted it through the controller and
everything..
i do ALL my own mods bruv 🙂 unfortunately unlike a big company i dont do
cost effective just modifications THAT WORK 😀 if you want cost effective
buy a stock h107d and NEVER crash it so the ribbon cable doesnt get damaged
🙂 to make the video play on a pc you will have to read up on re-encoding
video files to a format your pc can understand cough freemake video
converter cough or keep downloading codecs till you get lucky 😉
Hi 0n3m1s1s0. Just tested a 4 leaf clover antenna to the radio, but it
didn’t make any deference. Kinda made it worse. Should I be using a 4 leaf
clover antenna? Obviously the X4 will not be able to lift a 3 leaf clover
antenna. I keep coming back to your vids. Very cool man.

short answer NO WORKY BECAUSE 4 leaf clover is circularly polarized but
hubsan uses LINEARLY polarized antennae so you need the 3 leaf clover on
the quad for best results 🙂
a patch antenna MIGHT give better results if you dont want to mod the quad
but a light cloverleaf might only cost 20seconds of your flight time?
personally i prefer to by a 200mw 5.8ghz vtx
a 90deg (for realistic) or 170deg 520 or 600tvl 0.05 lux for daytime or
0.01 lux for late evening flight fpv camara
run that on a 100mah 1s lipo
you will run out of quadcopter range LONG before yo run out of fpv range 😉
unless you use the hubsan spyhawk fpv tx with a 2000mw wifi booster like i
do ;)

I lost my first X4 in the trees, the strange thing is I live close by. I
still can not find it and its been over 2 months. So i ordered another one
awhile ago. All good now,
But I want to go further. Always having trouble going behind buildings. You
would think I have learnt my lesson. In fact I decided to put a key chain
electronic beeper in case I loose it ever again.
This may help others if they loose there X4.. NEVER turn off your radio if
when ever you loose your X4. There still is a video image being broadcast.

I dont think you can,. But the Walkera Hifa FPV Airplane will bind to the
Hubsan X4 Remote.
ive only tried the cheap Chinese boscam stuff myself but if the channel
number shows on the hubsan you should be in luck
How much did it cost you? Can you link to suppliers..

From the video, your pcb says “+6V” and “GND” on the power terminals,
whilst mine says “4~13V” instead of “+6V”. What a surprise when I opened
mine..
My PCBs number is printed “EA4001922 v2.2”. It looks as though my
transmitter is an upgraded version. I have ordered this adjustable DC-DC
step down converter anyways:
I am going to use a 9V x 340mAH battery that I have got laying around. But
I fell slightly tempted to attach it without the down converter.
How did you get the original battery compartment out? Did you brute force
it or is there a trick to get it to slide out without forcing?
sorry for delay bruv the lipo tray has small plastic tabs holding it in
place if yo can psh a couple in to make it easy to remove 😉 the pcb
converts voltage down to 5v and 3.3v for the components used all other
voltage is converted to heat in effect so going above 7.2v might be
pointless? dunno 🙂 my devo 7e runs on a duff 1200mah 1s lipo for 3hours
before hitting 3.99v onboard alarm is set to 3.72v

The PCB I was referring to was the original transmitter’s for the hubsan
H107D. I noticed the inscriptions on mine said “4~13V” instead of “+6V”
like yours did.
Indeed if I were to use a stepdown converter to 6V the best would be to
have a voltage not much more higher than the output voltage. But the
batteries I have are 9V, so..
What I mean is that maybe my transmitter is an updated version in relation
to yours, and it may have the capability to work directly with input
voltages ranging from 4~13V (hence the inscription in my PCB?)
You know how to mod the transmitter, but you don’t know how to increase the
volume or add a mic when recording someone talk?
just goes to show we are stupid in some fields while being exceedingly
clever in other fields eh? 😉

could be very hard but might be easy bruv, you would need to remove the 5.8
vtx and replace with a 1.2 with same pin out for drop in replacement or
solder wires to the 1.2 vtx and install it like how you add modules to a
devo 7e? that would be the easy part :0 if it worked you “might” be able to
change video channels as usual? but wouldn’t really know what channel you
were on in the hubsan tx ;( but could find video channel in other vrx? now
the hard bit (for me anyway) would be to massarge the hubsan firmware till
it showed the correct channels?

much easier? get old portable lcd tv add 1.2vrx then build 1,2 vtx gear
into your quad and go fly :0 sounds easier and maybe cheaper depending on
what you got already?

Love this! I don’t see the point of the LiPo mod though. I just use
rechargeable AA NiMH batteries in mine and that works great cuz it can read
the voltage the same as it does with alkalines
