This upgrade of the popular Syma X5SC/W includes an effective altitude hold feature to make FPV flying very easy. Buy it here http://www.banggood.com/Syma-X5HW-WIFI-FPV-With-2MP-HD-Camera-2_4G-4CH-6Axis-RC-Quadcopter-RTF-p-1034073.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 or here on Amazon http://amzn.to/2hNNBg6 And buy spare batteries and parts here http://www.banggood.com/search/x5hc-x5hw.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
This quadcopter uses WiFi with your smartphone to allow real time viewing of in flight video. Yet it still has surprisingly good control and FPV range for a WiFi based FPV flier.
Pro’s
– Binds with the X8C controller if you want increased range! And the phone attachment clip fits snugly to the top of the X8C antenna. But the X8C controller does not have an auto-center stick. You’ll need to manually do that (not very hard to do).
– Effective altitude hold feature that helps the pilot maintain focus on his/her flying FPV flying, and less on worrrying about impacting the ground.
– Range of both flight control and FPV range seems to be much greater than the advertised 30 to 50m range. I flew well beyond the advertised range through much of the above video, and still maintained video reception and flight control.
– Has headless mode.
– Stable flier, providing relatively smooth aerial video.
– Does not require FAA registration as it weighs less than 250 grams.
Con’s
– Proprietary Syma battery connector prevents using third party batteries. But you could change the quadcopter’s power connector to a standard mini Losi connector if you wish to use the widely available generic (and cheap) Syma X5C batteries.
– Does not have one key return. However, not a big loss as this feature is not really effective on quadcopters that do have it.
– Photo and video resolution is relatively low at 0.3MP/640x480p. This is an inherent limitation of WiFi FPV fliers.
– Video recording would occasionally stop for no reason. But this could be a fault of my cheap $49 phone.

You should review the Syma X8HG
can I please have one drone
?????????????????????
I have the older X5c-1 and was thinking up upgrading to this BUT I also
have quite a few spare batteries for my older model so decided against it
as I cannot use my batteries with the newer model. New battery connector is
a deal breaker for me.
Is it 2MP or 0.3MP? In your video it didn’t look like 2MP. But overall
nice, I hadn’t seen this and I keep almost buying the newest JJRC 509G but
hold off when I see first the new DBPower FPV (CX-32 rebrand) and now this!
Aghhhhh!!! How would you compare the three?
Does it turn off altitude hold with a tx turn off? I am afraid that it will
be same altitude but drift with wind if the remote shuts off, can you test
this @quadcopter 101
Good that it has altitude hold but I’m in agreement with Bill, I wouldn’t
mess with or buy a quad with WiFi for FPV. Looks like
a good starter quad for novice flyers and like always, a real good review
and thanks!
Actually the X5HC came out a couple of weeks ago.
Now that I’m retired I don’t have a lot of money to throw around on my R/C
habit but I did go order one of these from the link in your description. My
first ever order with Banggood and so far I’m really impressed as within 6
hours of my placing the order I got a “your order has been shipped” e-mail.
And the price was a bit cheaper than the best price at Amazon. The first
thing I’ll probably do when I get it is swap out the battery connectors and
upgrade the battery but when you compare the features of this thing to the
quads we had to build ourselves 5 years ago it is amazing how far they’ve
come in just a few short years. Can’t wait to get mine. Thanks for your
great reviews.
I buy 2 days ago…. so impressive, well… for toy grade , the spec is
awesome ,new prop just like a pro, the motor simply more power, than the
other syma x5 series…
Looks like a disappointment and I hate that as I sell Syma. WLtoys is
giving them all they want I think. X11 X5C-1 and X8C and X8G will become
much more desirable I think as the price drops. Maybe the X8HG will be a
hit. One can only hope. Good ole banggod sent me half an order in garbage
packaging. I don’t see how those China companies can keep getting away with
messing up orders sending partials in reused junk packing. I will say the
best company I’ve done business with over there so far has to be
lightake.com First class packing and always get orders within 10 days.
Maybe Banggod and gearbest have become to big.
please review Syma X8HG
I got mine yesterday. Did an indoor test and I’m thinking the altitude hold
on mine don’t work very well. What is the typical variance you guys are
seeing on the altitude hold?
Dear 101,
If you were to recommend a Quad to someone who is a intermediate line of
sight flyer who wants to learn FPV, what Quad would you recommend? I what
the altitude hold and 5.8 system. I have built several racing quads but I
am afraid to fly FPV for fear of losing or destroying them. Been their,
done that 🙁 I just want to fly around and look at the deer and build my
confidence up so I can move up to the ones I have built.
Thanks so much for the vids, they are so interesting.

I think that may have been the first time I have seen you crash. Your
flights are always so perfect.
shut the fuck up
no you piece of ??
Hi @Quadcopter 101, I just recently got an X5C-1…yeah I know its… “old”
lol…Only been flying it a little over a week, but a problem I had that I
believe is fixed now, was my camera plug was loose, and randomly (usually
when “landing” hard) I’m guessing the camera connector became loose,
obviously resulting in corrupted videos. Just this morning I took the drone
apart and found that there is a bracket that screws over the camera
connector on the drone, and it wasn’t screwed down all the way. I tested
the plug outside of the drone and after tightening down the screw and the
camera plug snapped in pretty snug, so hopefully this fixes my problem. I
haven’t tested it yet, getting my glue gun back from my sister in law
tonight, then will replace the drop of glue over the screw (I’m guessing
it’s there in an attempt to keep the screw from coming out).
At anyrate, I wonder if this could be your problem. Maybe the connector is
coming loose just enough, to drop the video, but gets reconnected soon
enough so the wifi doesn’t know any better and is able to reconnect.
Something to look into I guess if you can’t figure something else out.
I don’t know what’s up with that battery connector. I just got one today
(review model), mine is the same as your’s, but I just watched Dustin’s
review and his has the old Syma’s traditional “propieritary” battery
connector(?) I remember when I bought my first X8-c, it had the “T”
connector, bought a second one, it had bannana type plugs!!!! For crying
out loud… “can we all just get along?” Lol… I wish we could just have
one type connector per size class (or power class) for ALL quadcopters. (I
have a ton of X5 batteries, so you know, the quad’s about to get modded!!!)
Good review, thanks. DJ SOUL FORCE
can you do syma x8hc?
Tried to change the X5HC proprietary battery connector pigtail on the X5HC
receiver board to use X5C batteries with mini Losi connector. When an X5C
battery was plugged into it it immediately turned power on regardless of
the TX being on! The wire gauge on the Losi pigtail is a bit thinner, is
that an issue?
Switching back to proprietary connector pigtail restored normal function.
Any idea what could be wrong?
Why isn’t one mentioning the type of camera, which is it? 720p or 1080p?
hi, I just had a question, can a tablet be used for wifi fpv
or is phone better
Can you compare this with the x8hw?
Hi 101,I just picked up one of these as my second Syma quadcopter, the
other being the X5C. I got this one as I wanted the altitude hold and
headless mode. The altitude hold works great, but otherwise I’ve been
having some trouble with headless mode. How exactly do you enable headless
mode? The instructions are not clear and I may be doing it wrong as I find
the unit less than responsive at times. Also I think the rate needs to be
increased, so I need to know how to do that also. I know it is the left
button on the controller, but do I hold it down or tap it to turn on
headless? What about increasing the rate?I too am having trouble with the
app and wifi camera setup. Mine not only stops recording, but also loses
the camera connection altogether. The screen goes blank and a message says
“camera not connected” which is not true, its plugged in. I’m done with
the FPV, if I knew I’d have looked for the X5HC. I prefer the chip and to
wait to download the video later. Thanks in advance!
Plenty of people are complaining about this but honestly I cant believe how
cheap this is for how good it seems. Battery connection isn’t an issue,
just change or make an adapter. Seriously, can’t believe how cheap it is!
Another great vid, keep up the good work.
Just bought this and now learning how to pilot this drone.
Which is your 49$ phone lol?
How much time battrey backup
What is the maximum control range?
there is delay between camera and what you are seeing. I own this quadcopter and that is the only thing that i dont like about this. This is good copter for low prize.
can you test what happens when the battery dies?
How make did you buy ?
Everything looks the same as my swift stream z-9 the battery is identical the battery compartment on the drone is identical same as the led lights! Even the camera looks the same
The one comment I would make is that the X5HC has a much better camera. At .3mp pictures and video from the X5W are not great.
You didn’t have the camera plugged in all the way. did the same thing to me when i got it
Another great video thanks!
Hi All! I wish to purchase a x5HW drone or HW-1. Do anybody knows what is the difference between HW and HW-1?
Can’t you solder a different connector to the Quad and use regular batteries?
I have this drone how do I fine tune and I keep getting mixed up with the 2 sticks which one is to turn
Does this drone have emergency motor stop?
My x5uw will whip its ass.
Does it come with battery’s
when your getting something you always watch a video
is it compatible with blackberry?
Hey : question :- does the motors go off when throttle (pitch) stick goes fully down for 5 seconds?
Banyak cakap sial dia ni
Can you change this camera to a 5.8ghz camera so it is not WiFi anymore? Maybe even a 720 or 1080 camera? Thanks
thanks for the vid. i’m planning on buying my first drone and this made me think about being able to see the smart phone screen in the light as it usually sucks big time. So should i go for a model with the full controller? opinions?
Don’t buy this drone it sucks !!!
Good review btw 😉
Awesome
Thank you for this amazing in depth review. I am very new to this quadcopter world and need your assistance. What would you suggest for the novice buyer to get Syma X5HW or CheerWing CW4??
Awesome. Maybe the recording stopped due to being out of range?
JST are popular connections lmao
i have dji phanthom 4
who cares about the wifi garbage and t6he headless mode test the range
