Ever had a prop of a quadcopter break off at high altitude? Watching your quad tumbling down, spinning and spinning and burrying itself in the ground … it’s a total loss…. The only thing that survived was my GoPro. Tuff little cams, even without the casing. I hope I can salvage at least my NAZA unit, my GPS, my receiver… mabye an engine or 2…. Good thing I was gonna make a new camera gimbal, ’cause this one is totally wrecked… I hope the servo’s still work, they were small digital metal geared expensive little buggers…
oh well… I like building… I just hate crashing…. Off to my workshop for a brand new build…

Graupners are the best, forget the rest. Also if you’re going for expensive
gear for ariel photography, never use quads, use octos. If one motor fails,
you’re still in the air.
What did you savage?
Eye protection, you can always buy more copter parts.
It was not a prop goin off, its one arm not beeing fixed and rotaring round
his axis! This where you put the arrows are interference due to video
framerate and prop spin!
carbon fibre props are worth the money!
The death of my Quadcopter was by mid air collision my buddy took me out
with his f-27q stryker.
Sorry about your crash. Not much you can do when a prop fails.
Thats why you use locktite and tighten everything properly
I had same thing happen twice. Plastic can’t handle weight gone to carbon
fiber cost a little more but compared to quad repairs their
cheep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plastic props. Nuff said.
… dont use plastic props. As you can see in the movie, your props are
bending under the weight of your copter and your camera gimbal looks pretty
heavy.
the “gimbal”.. is that the wooden horseshoe thing that’s kinda swinging
mounted with 3 ropes? 🙂

not is the prop, is a screw of the motor, the motor turn and broke the
prop
Maybe you buy carbon fiber props next time. Sorry for your loss.

plastic props .. 😛 never buy something like that for some heavy quad

No way this crash was caused by prop failure alone, I mean look at 0:35….
I’ve had props break in mid-flight many times but they never caused the
motor mounting to turn 90deg sideways 🙂 You can also see a sudden yaw to
the left at 0:15 which precedes the prop breaking and matches the direction
that the motor turn toward, then there are multiple frames around 0:17 –
0:19 where we can see the motor mount has already completely separated from
the arm it was attached to, before it even touched the ground.
The build looks rubbish, it’s going to ruin the hobby for all of us
My condolences. But you were flying a ginormous heavy quad on under rated
props.
