Just a tip, if you want better control and steadier flying in wind remove
the prop guards as they catch the wind.
I use the prop guards when I am in the bush. Spent an afternoon at the
beach without prop guards in very strong wind. Check out Eagle Photographics
Thanks, very good to know :)
hi guys, I have built an octo 6s with the Naza M V2…. So I assume all of
your tips regarding the phantom versions will be the same as the M V2?
subscribed,
Hi Dizzychizzy,
I’m afraid we only deal with “straight out of the box” Phantoms, so I can’t
comment on if its all the same.
But please keep us updated with your Octo6 progress for our blog!
My 2 + came yesterday and was great right out of the box now to learn all
the little details
My tip! Stay away from trees and don’t descend too fast!!
Here’s a lowlight test that I shot with GoPro Hero 3 Black, Dji PHantom &
Zenmuse Gimbal. 1080p30f, cut using Avid Media Composer 6.0.

About setting the home point on top of a building :). What do you think
would happen if the Phantom miss the building and decided to land lets say
a few meters off the building edge. Would it switch off its motors once it
gets on the level with the building’s roof (even if there is many more
meters of just air under it) or would it continue descending until it would
reach the actual ground (street). I presume that if it only knows the
relative altitude from the take off, it would probably swith off while in
the air and crash 🙂 but I really wonder if I am not underestimating it :).
Hi Lukas,
It would go all the way to ground and land smoothly!
+HypervisionAustralia
Hope I will never have to try it :). Do you know, how that is achieved? Or
do I have some serious misunderstanding of altitude measuring? :).
HI Lukas, Have a look at our BLOG, I think one subscriber explains what
happens in detail
Damn, you already did the test 🙂 I did not noticed that. So now it is one
less experiment, that I can do 🙁 :D. Thank you very much, learned a lot
:).
it has a accuracy of about 6ft radius. Start from the center of the roof
where you have at least 10 or more feet around you when you take off. then
when it lands it wont fall over the edge.
thanks guys
Mine slowly descended from the sky and is gone 🙁 Can’t find it :-(
+illdelphia88
Oh dear! Not cool!
only it had it 2 days, lol. It just started hovering with no control and
slowly descended in to the woods.
+illdelphia88 low voltage.
My 1st Phantom is still under 4 metres water, with GoPro Hero3 Black in a
waterproof housing. I imeadiately ordered another. This was 6 months ago.
Ive just bought the Phantom 2 vision on ebay second hand, turns out it was
cheaper brand new from the manufacturer –
Im absolutley gutted to think i could of had a warranty etc…..
Theres actually one listed on ebay usa that was found intact on a car park
after RTH?? wtf
Great Video clip! Sorry for chiming in, I am interested in your thoughts.
Have you heard about – Dalletante Magic Growth Blueprint (do a google
search)? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my GF unbelievably
grew taller with it.
+uma rani
Hi Uma! Thanks for the kind words! Not sure what “growing taller” has to do
with DJI Phantoms, but certainly looked interesting!Hope you enjoy the

So what would happen if you were on a hill/mountain/peak, and you were
flying ‘BELOW’ your take off point (in a valley for example) and you lost
signal?

I dont use a phone as Im running phantom 2 z-gimbal and gopro .. and as i
said the phantom lost signal and i also lost video as using a vid trans
system.. the phantom then lowered to around 60ft , spun around and whet to
fly home and crashed into trees… it did not stay at the height of 40m
that i was flying at email chris@digata.co.uk +HypervisionAustralia
+chris digata
HI Chris, Something is wrong there, unless you have the new phantom where
the fly home height can be preset. This can be changed in your phone app.
I wished the phantom remote had 1 more switch to have a fail safe switch
but it doesn’t. It’s nice with an aftermarket remote you just flip a switch
and fail safe with out turning it off so you can retake control at anytime
if you want by going out of the failsafe by going to gps mode alitude then
back to gps. If you turn it off hope it comes back because it won’t
reconect to the remote.
mine does have this? phantom 2 difference perhaps – right flip switch
You have to plug the phantom into the computer and run the DJI software and
you can do this. You reprogram S1 (the right switch) so that top is GPS
middle is ATT and bottom is FailSafe (or you can set it to manual). In this
way you can activate FS without having to turn off the transmitter. The way
it comes from the factory the S1 switch is GPS at the top the ATT in middle
and bottom.
+TremblayCT2 I know that but it would be nice to have both.
+WildAndLiving Yes for sure, that’s the benefit of having such a
sophisticated machine. Do you have your Naza Flight controller in Phantom
mode or Naza M mode? If you are in Naza M mode you have access to IOC using
the S2 switch. If you loose orientation, near trees or anything, you can
use this switch to put the Phantom into HomeLock mode and bring it back to
you regardless of which orientation it is facing. In home lock mode,
pulling back on the stick always beings the Phantom back towards you. I
think this would be a safer alternative than putting it into FS, as you
still have full control. If you are near trees and put it into FS you have
no control and it could rise into branches, or hit a tree on its way back
to you. And yes that is what I was saying about the S1 switch, toggling it
at any time will take you out of FS mode and back into ATTI or GPS.

I cant get the Phantom 1 to rotate the blades?
+Elgin Laib
I don’t understand sorry?
I get the green light on the Phantom but I can’t get the propellers on the
Phantom to rotate.?
+Elgin Laib
Have you solved the problem yet?
I have had this problem before… I think from memory its when you turn the
controller on after the Phantom and it cant find it
yes problem solved. operator error
How do I know if the fail safe is on and how do I set the home base?
I have just purchased a phantom 2. And I was flying it when he suddenly
flew home by itself like in the video. (mine was a few blocks away) But I
was right next to it with the remote. Could this happen when the battery is
getting low??
+MiniB
Hi There! With the new software, yes! It will just pack it in and fly home
with only 10 seconds warning (which is annoying) Also if it runs out of
range it will also just fly home after a few seconds. Hope that helps!
That does. Thanks alot 🙂
Great video mate
