Howdy, in this episode we have the maiden of the “flat wing” Nano Talon http://bit.ly/2JwPGKu, we also discuss the Matek F722 & Wing PDB and some of the things that didn’t quite go to plan :/ Full details below, Press SHOW MORE to see them, Matt

So that we’re ALL on the same page. I feel it’s important to stress that the Nano Talon model was bought out of my OWN money, for my own abuses and was NOT a “Freebie for Review”.

Is the Nano Talon made by X-UAV?
================
We’ve always said that there should be a micro version of the mini talon as the mini talon is a fantastic FPV model. You can see my full setup of the mini talon in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dRuO3BT5x58
However…. XUAV missed a trick here and this model is not made by X-UAV, instead it’s another company called ZOHD.
Note: Those of you that are thinking this is a clone, remember that the original X-UAV Mini Talon was a copy of another model in the first place!
Who is ZOHD?
================
ZOHD is actually a trademark of SonicModell. You most likely already know this company as they have created a wide range of models, some re-branded by other RC companies.
ZOHD Nano Talon Blurb & Specifications
================
This 860mm Wingspan Nano Talon is a portable edition of the Talon Airframe series. It is super easy to hand-launch and fly because of the gyro, This Nano Talon is very convenient to carry with because the detachable mainwing and tail wing can be detached easily by plugs and magnets. The built-in servo structure makes the airfoil more aerodynamic, and avoid damage even in a crash. The inside room and extra bottom hatch are also huge for more FPV gear.

Hey Matt I did mine flight with the bonafypirate mod today when absolutly fantastic. here is the video.
I have the oscilations too when speeding up. they are almost gone with lowering the pids on roll but not completely
Nice Video….
BTW, Waypoint should work just fine if you’ve loaded the waypoints correctly in memory…… did you perhaps combine it with manual at the same time ?…..
to make it behave better in 3CRS, you should dial up the loiter radiusbank angle, climb angle, dive angle, and perhaps pitch2thr. They all affect how it responsive it is to stick commands when in auto modes.
you might also consider raising the nav_wp_radius to something like 5000 (50 meters), to make sure it never misses it, and has to turn back and try again…
Too much Aileron throw Matt…?….There are two ways to skin a cat. I always seem to end up with +2 to +4 positive pitch trim on my boards. Planes need to fly with a positive angle of attack.
I must try iNAV 2.0 at some point. I have the F405 Wing board.
In Alt Hold Mode, your elevator override does not work, iNAV is doing that, you cant mess with it….lol. Your video relay? link seems very unstable.
The antenna on your VTX looks like a Lawmate receiver antenna to me.?
Nice work. I gave up on trying to get inav working on my NT. Inav to me was just WAY to complicated to setup. I’ve been using Ardupilot for years and love it but decided I’m going to just spend the extra cash and get the vector. To me it’s a no brainer. I’m not a huge fan of bench time and seems that’s what’s necessary to get inav working properly.
Hi Matt you can access quite a few setting from the osd. I think it’s throttle mid yaw right and pitch full to get into the menu. I’ve also set one of the adjustments so change the board pitch using one of the pots. Hope this helps
Another great video with mishaps and all. Helpful learning experience for everyone. I never would have guessed to use wing presets.
I just picked up the SpeedyBee usb configurator for Betaflight, and it is great, let’s hope something comes along for iNav !
I love that f722 on my miniquad. Flies super smooth on bf 3.4 with the 32khz gyro. Heard some people have problems with the sensitive gyro, very important to add a couple low esr caps.
Hedging your bets on the landings?
Good and very interesting video
It’s the shitty design see what one of the Inav devs says about it
It’s like the PIDS were dependent on the throttle.
So much to keep us busy.
P and I increase the correction strength and D actually dampens it, so increasing all values together (or decreasing them all in this case) will be less effective than just changing P only or D only, or changing P/D in opposite directions. I would recommend changing only one at a time to make it clearer what effect each individual value had. For this case it looked like P just needed to be decreased (or alternatively maybe D increased). So far I have never touched the I value at all, it has a relatively minor effect in most situations.
I made an explanation of these terms in my guide to quadcopters series, with a purpose-made demo utility to practice tuning, might be worth a look:
Hi Matt , can you explain why you didn’t use PID autotune? I’ve not used that on inav yet. Were you thinking the oscillation was too bad for autotune to sort out?
I found the fpv reception a little bit worrying. Have You been so far out or was it the “lack of diamond”?
