In this video I am going to talk about the Quadcopter I decided to build. The parts you need in order to build your own quadcopter as well as the setup (motor/battery/esc/props) are also described.
This video is Chapter 3 of the “Basic Quadcopter Tutorial” in which I am going to display step by step how to solder your ESCs to your motors, how to install the motors on your quad as well as installing the ESCs/ wiring your ESCs to the powerline.
I am sorry for the length of this Chapter. That is why I created the menu which is supposed to help you skip to the parts of your interest.
I hope you enjoy this tutorial and if you have any questions, feel free to post them below. Thanks for watching!
i dont know the size of heatshrink too help!
I used 4mm and 5mm
Where did you get the screws to mount the motors on the frame? Pls help :)
I got them with the motors.
I bought the motors that were on the parts list and they didn’t come with
them :/ Also on the Hobby King site you can get “ESC Power Breakout Cable”
this is much easier then soldering all the esc together 🙂 Thanks for
replying
First of all I have to say your videos are beautiful so thank you. I am
planning to build a quadcopter for my project, I have 4 30amp turnigy
esc’s, 4 Motors (1200Kv) the KK2 flight board and a 3000mAh battery. Can
you tell me what gauge wires are required to fix them all together. I have
seen a few forums, but none of them are very clear on the wires and how to
actually make a wire harness. Can you please help me I really am stuck. I
just want to know how to solder all the things together.. Sorry for the
trouble..
What are the little triplet wires called? I need to order extras from
hobbyking and can’t find them.
Hi BigBen34x, your videos are great. They helped us a lot. we are making a
quadcopter using the KKboard as our flight control board, but we cannot
figure out how each of the pins are to fitted on the board. Is there some
way that you can share a clip on how you configured your board and what
pins you connected where? We are pretty lost and would appreciate your
help. Thanks.
A power distribution board is nice so you don’t have to solder all the
wires to each other,
how did you attach the kk2 board to the battery?
Thank you for your videos they help a lot! Does your soldering method hold
tight really well? I just got done soldering a whole quadcopter with my
method and when I was done the wires all came unsoldered. Really
frustrating! Thanks.
Hey, im using one of these motors to build a hovercraft but my hovercraft
will not be control by radio frequency. i will just need the motors to run
when i pluck the batteries on. is it possible to do so ??
Great videos, thanks for posting. If I may add, your soldering is really
not very good. You have to fray the wires for about 1/2″, overlap them,
twist them, and then solder the connection. An end to end connection as
shown will break in no time.
I don’t mean to criticize, your videos are great, but I just thought I
would point that out.
Cheers, Pete.
Is there any way to directly check if the motors are working or not ? I
just bought new motors and i just want to see if they are working .
H king sells something like a 2 dollar power distribution board. Would much
recommend it, it really cleans up the quad and makes assembly very easy, as
it makes it so no soldering is required. Great video series though, really
helps take away most of that intimidation for beginners like me!
what is use of extra power line what is it importance.what happen if it is
not use
excellent video, I am having hard time connecting receiver and all in one
4×25 ESC’s with Hobbyking I86 multi rotor board, any assistance will be
highly appreciated. it is the same board that you’ve in the video.
Did you have the flash to board to get it to start like you doing in the
video is not let
where is all that wire coming from
what kind of wire is that
Nice vid! Thanks man! I’m still watching tutorials from different guys.
Still learning before start building my own first quad.
Wire guage u`r using ?
Thanks bruv. I’m doing research to get a quad for FPV flight. The quad
ypu’ve got there is too small for FPV flying. I reckon I will need a bigger
frame. I really do like the TBS DIscory, but I have found a couple of TBS
Discovery & Pro clone frames in carbon from $30 !! TBS sells their frames
at $100 give or take.
Nice design but the center plate is WAY too small to fit all the equipment
and offer sufficient cooling air for the ESC. Why on earth would someone
design such a nice quad with such a SMALL center plate??? Unbelievable,
really!!!
I like this bullet soldering method better:
Fill bullet ‘cup’ with solder about 3/4 full
Strip wire about 1/4 inch
Tin Wire
Heat up and melt solder inside bullet
Push tinned wire onto and into the bullet
let cool
This, in my opinion, will get a more reliable solder.
Hi can you please write the name of the sticker that you used to secure the
esc’s ? i couldn’t understand just from you voice.
Thanks.
can you pls specify the components that is needed to make this in the video
description ? 🙂 and your will be more awesome and helpful.
can any one tell me what was the volt of the battery
Can copper wire be used to connect ESC to battery?
Doesn’t it drive you crazy to have the helping hand moving around like
that? I couldn’t stand it so I clamped mine to the desk.
why did you not make the area bigger to accomodate all your esc and radio
and kk2
SINCE I AM A BEGINNER I WOULD LIKE IT SLOWER…..PLZ WITH DEEP EXPLANATION
I WANNA KNOW HOW THE ESC’S POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ARE CONNECTED
AND ALSO TO MENTION I WANNA KNOW HOW THE ESC’S ARE CONNECTED TO THE BOARD
NOTE:I AM USING KK2.0
Hi
Im a newbie, and i wanna ask you something
How do you know which side become your front / back
you decide it,or it depend from something on the rotor or frame ?
where can u find the main power connector
at 12:55 you can see one of the esc power wire left out . lol
Hi i’m new to this, can you tell me specifications of the battaries and
where can i find them?
Thank you.
Great tutorial! Although I would use a power distribution board instead of
doing all that soldering.
what does a power distributor n ecs do
(Victor) Nice build.
Thanks for the thorough video and instructions.
Waiting for my frame to arrive from HobbyKing’s US warehouse West
Words of advice for connecting ESC’s to the motors:
CW motors get 2 ESC wires crossed
CCW motors have the wires connected in line with each other and not crossed.
Saves time from having to see which motors are spinning CW or CCW, then
disconnecting and crossing or uncrossing.
So I’m building this all the same, except I’m using a kk mini board
(mistake, I know). I have factory reset, yet there is no throttle input. I
have programmed my remote, bound the RX and TX, and calibrated the escs. I
also have one wire coming off every thing on the left side into the inner
port of the reviever.
How long is the flight time on that setup?
question where do you get the power Distribution Board and what is the best
name for it
