I’ve always said that the Fimi X8 SE is a “hot rod” drone. In this video, I put it up against the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom. We have the Snake River Canyon as the backdrop for this one.

Good video and sensible test! Only in Europe, most people use the scale kilometers/meters.I think about 80% of viewers are accustomed to understand the speed in kilometers per hour and height in meters.
Miles and feet for understanding it is necessary to recalculate in the head.
However, the author of the video @UCWaxtRwDzUMd2WmhOrCWRJQ gets like, for a well-written test and a visual comparison of these two drones!

Drone Overloaded means your motors are working too hard. Look at the top middle of the screen. That shows the power usage and how the motors are being used
Very cool footage! I own both as well…Mavic 2 Pro & X8 SE. The X8 is a bit quirky but performing well for me overall in all but the most extreme lighting conditions, where the M2P tends to shine. X8 precision landings require an ‘orange’ landing pad, but remain illusive. The Gail warning is all too common and indicative of firmware issues. Drone Overload is common above 90 degrees ambient in Sport Mode, and should be taken seriously as if ESC failure is imminent. Low Speed SD caution is common with anything less than U3 A2 V30 cards (where it is only intermittent) when shooting 4K@30fps, but as long as the recording continues it doesn’t seem to affect the results. Manual White Balance doesn’t work so far. A significant percentage of new owners of the X8 are experiencing serious quality control issues such as remote control, accelerometer, and even camera failures; it’s a lottery with the March 2019 batch, although I got two good ones it seems.

I think the mavic had probably a more stable video but hard to say, both are really close, minor speed difference from 2-3 miles in top speed. Nothing that cant be tweaked with Firmware in the future. The DJI has the advantage of zoom, better range and the sensors, i never really needed the sensors i have to say since i always fly in open fields. Precision landing is a non issue in my mind, its pretty much not very useful in my mind. The real important things would be how good does the DJI can do the special modes like circle around an object. The Fimi and the Anafi is not very good at it because you can see a stuttering, its not very smooth, those are the things you really need from a camera drone like this, not precision landing or top speed etc.. I think with the fimi you get a very good and cheap tool for filming, it has the basic things you need and you probably wont see a difference in a youtube clip produced with the fimi or the DJI. Those circle modes can be done manually as well. I always had DJI products but i feel the Fimi will get close and the advantages of DJI getting smaller every year because of xiaomi has the potential. Even the Hubsan Zino seems to be incredible value for the money, i saw it for like 230 Euro. In the past the difference to DJI was much higher, i remember when the phantom 1 was released there was no real competition and when the Phantom 3 was released Hubsan came with a crappy analog FPV Phantom clone. Now other companies can produce good apps and good gimbals as well.
Great video it is a good comparison of the two drones if someone is shopping in this case you get what you pay It looks to be good value for Fimi I’m a DJI guy have an Air and Pro I prefer Mavic air the air is a little noisier but I like ease and convenience the size of the drone does what I need. Nice test….I knew the answer so I skipped to the end conclusion but wanted to comment about the mistake. Aside from being human it never fails when shooting for content on your channel that we make these little faux pas but it keeps us brushed up on editing. lol Oh, the hours spent in editing! For that alone is deserving of a thumbs up.

Also I see the SD card error is still there eh? … As I mentioned before… the X8SE is riddled with minor glitches and erroneous error messages 🙂 … But… But!!! at 1/3rd the price… pretty comparable. Your scenery is stunning Marcus ! That was an excellent test ! The X8 video quality really impresses me. And you are right it is fast. The Zoom I think you got it up to about 44 mph – wow ! Gotta love precision landing on the Mavic 2 drones. How much battery did you have left on the Zoom ? Well done sir !

Spectacular scenery Marcus! Question: I noticed what appears to be an RV parked along the river, and there seem to be other sites to do so… Is this (your side of the river, along the river) an open camping area or is it private?
Did anyone else get a firmware update today? I did the one on the 11th but today it said two more were available..
Crashed mine today, broke a prop.
It did something weird before and forced me to do 2 firmware updates and the update said it failed , then the compass had a ridiculous time calibrating said everything was good 17 says and when I took off it went wild and I had to crash it into the ground. Broke a prop but no other damage thankfully.
My MJX drones are actually more reliable than the fimi they just have crappy cameras..
Nice video and great scenery! The DJI is definitely the more polished, higher quality product. I mean even just from watching the FPV on this video I could immediately see and sense the difference in quality. But as you indicated, the price difference is huge. If FIMI can work out the bugs and quirks, that will be one heck of a great bang for the buck. Would rather have the DJI, but for the price difference I have a FIMI X8 SE on the way from banggood. Hopefully I get a good one and/or hopefully the fix the issues with firmware updates.

Well done, I spotted 42.9 mph on the X8, not bad for a cheap hobby grade drone.
The FIMI gives you about 80~85% of the performance of the DJI Zoom, for around 1/3 of the price. This drone will literally drive the market leaders for drones to be more price competitive, and more innovative, which all works for the consumer.

Wow, wish we had gales like that here on the Atlantic coast of the UK! Interesting comparison test Marcus and stunning landscape. The Fimi is looking pretty good, but there is obviously still work to be done on the firmware. I’m still happy just flying my Zino, but would love to upgrade to a Mavic 2 Pro at some stage.

It is an interesting comparison, although the Mavic 2 zoom was never going to be beaten, was it? (I just wish I could afford it!). For the money, the Fimi X8 se does a great job – maybe some improvements can still be made with firmware updates.

Hi there, I think that “drone overload” is connected to your SD card, when you get the drone overload you also get low speed on your SD cards. The card can’t wright in the speed it need because your memory car is to slow?

Some of my best drones flight have remained unrecorded as well, it happens to all of us. Great demo of the speed of the Fimi, and how well it compares to the Mavic 2. The view of the Snake river were awesome, and very scenic location for a drone flight. And I had forgot that the Fimi precision landing, but of course it didn’t hold a candle to the Mavic 2 in that respect. Another great video Marcus, and Fimi X8 is great drone for someone on a budget.
What amazes me is how steady the video is at high speeds. Great job Marcus. I just bought the xiaomi a3. I wanted the screen. They need to make the foldable with a screen

I tested the two new firmware updates today and lost FPV completely the process died on the drone and would not reconect and then the app crashed with a chinese error message, video on my channel.
New firmware for the FIMI today, flight control and it mentions something about the “Gale warning” 🙂

As a lover of quads Yeah the fimi is not a mavic but shit i cant complain about the fimi are the mi 4k i love them i have really all 3 of the mi quads and i have all the phantoms from the standard to the pham 4 and the mavic pro. I dont have thw mavic that u have but im satisfied with all the quads i have and all the other ones i have from other quad makers that are not dji ones. I just love to fly. As long as they pass my PERSONAL Test im cool with THEM.They ALL serve my PURPOSE of what i need them for. Every one of them i like for their different characteristics. Thats the most IMPORTANT thing to me. Thats way i like different quads Just like i like different cars some old some new but none are like the others. They all are different. I just love differences in things.
