Flight test of the $55 Syma X5C Explorers quadcopter with HD video camera: Its specifications are linked here: http://www.banggood.com/Syma-X5C-2_4G-4-Channel-Remote-Control-RC-Quadcopter-p-913827.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
My thoughts:
1: Camera is OK for a 720p, but it’s pointed way too far downward. But this is easily corrected by removing its mounting screws, and hot-gluing a shim in for a better view angle.
2: It really isn’t very steady outside of hover in maneuvering flight. Believe that its flight logic could be greatly improved. As it is now, it really has a hard time when a breeze hits it, and can start wobbling erratically with wind or sharp maneuvers.
3: The range is not impressive at all. Because of its wind issue, it can easily be blown out of range. Also when it flies out of range, it will maintain the last control input for a couple seconds before the motors cut out. A manual rebind (quickly moving the throttle down and up) is required when this occurs .
Overall assessment, because of #2 and #3, I foresee a lot of these ending up on neighbors roofs or in the trees. The X5C looks fantastic, and comes with a nice camera but a bad camera view angle. Because of the weight of the camera, It has mediocre flight performance in anything other than hover or a windless day.

Does anyone noticed he said ABOUT A WEEK A GO?? #hotwigga# lolllll
Do you think it is possible to recharge multiple batteries by somehow
connecting them to the charger that came with the Syma X5C quad?
Yes you can. This one comes with 5 batteries.
And here’s just the charger and cable alone.
Hey, I have this quad is there any way a gopro could go on it ?
Sorry, GoPro is too heavy. But you can carry other better cameras than the
stock, like the $42 808 #16 V3 camera
Have you any ideas on balancing three blade propellers
Agreed I tested all day with no weight eg camara I had great control in
high wind and high hights but add Camara and well I posted a video wanted
on so people could see RX and to mod distance but here at mountain base its
Chinook season and high flights are not a good idea to many thermals I have
a vid of this as well going up but I ordered a cpl sets of three blade
props I’m going to try to balance a set and show it
Never tried it. Am not a fan of three bladed propellers. Was going to
release the following video tomorrow, but will release it now to illustrate
my issues with them. They tend to be very inefficient. Think that the
additional blade just creates more turbulent flow instead of more lift.
I I bought a f550 fayee drone have u heard about them and r they any good?
Thanks for getting back to me good vids by the way 🙂
+martin keepin Yeah but Syma is coming out with the 5MP X5S
And JJRC is doing the same with their 5MP H12C
They say they are trying to take over the syma x5 drones .its got a 3mp hd
camera with it!
Not recived it yet prob next friday ?
Haven’t heard of that one before. Does it fly well?
You really need to work on your cardio, or do you have COPD? Another
thing: Does this work any better in America or is it as bad as it seems to
be in Mexifornia?
i just bought the x5 drone new aerocraft install everithink right when i
push throtle only two blades spining fast the over two are not spining fast
enouth then when i pick it up and move it around they start spining all
fast so i say its the axis gyroscope then i reset left and right lever to
lowest right and its start flashing thats the reset done then i trie it to
fly it again but same thinks happens i reset a few times not working again
i dont what to do please help is my gyro broken or what is it
toby, make sure that you place the quadcopter on a flat and level surface
when you bind it to your quadcopter. Do not move the quadcopter when you
turn on the transmitter and bind it to the quadcopter. The same is
important when you’re calibrating the gyros. 1) plug in the battery to the
quadcopter, and immediately place it on a flat and level surface. Wait a
few seconds for the gyros to initialize.
2) turn on the transmitter, and bind it to the quadcopter by moving the
throttle up and down.
3) Push and hold both control sticks to their lower-right position. Hold
them there a few seconds until you notice the quadcopter’s lights flashing.
4) let go of the sticks and try flying.
And here’s a video showing how
True
Thanks
Ridgecrest, California.
Enjoy your videos and the reviews.
I was curious if you had any information on replacement hardware/fasteners
for the Syma X5C-1. Are there ‘standard’ sizes of screws used on the
rotors/propellers, rotor/propeller-guards, etc. that I may be able to find
easily? Is this something that I may need to go to a hobby shop for? I have
searched online, and even spare parts (like the rotor/propeller-guards)
seem like they DON’T come with new screws.
Thanks!
Tarek,
These may help. They’re for WLToys quadcopters, but read the reviews.
Others are using them with their Syma products
Have you ever tried the Dromida 700mah battery in an X5C-1 ?
I have a couple and their great. Perfect fit after removing the rear peg.
+Quadcopter 101 With out the camera ,
10 minutes plus.
These batteries test out at 680 to 700 mah.
Where a decent stock 500mah battery varies
from 450 to 480 mah.
I really like how they fit as I also have a Turnigy 750 in one and you have
to force it in
and extremely hard to get out.
How much flight time does that give?
We have a few X5’s between family members but I really like the -1 as they
have upgraded many basic
things as in even how the prop guards mount. Nice flush and recessed.
My son wanted a camera for his ” which I don’t care about ” so I purchased
the whole quad for $53 with the
camera that I would have had to pay $20-$23 for and ended up with a -1 for
$30.
At least thats how I sold the idea to my wife ,,,, ha ha.
Cool
Have you tried the cheerson cx20? An u thoughts I. That one?
+Quadcopter 101 I agree, I am not ready for something like that, just doing
some research. Thanks
+Olivsam This should help.
But again, if you’re new to the hobby, this quadcopter is not for you.
+Quadcopter 101 thanks what is swb and swa mode?
Good quadcopter, but definitely not for beginners.
i saw that in a mall..Ey what happen if exceeds the cgnal does the drone
drops quick or slow?
Thanks for the info. Sir hhm what happen to the camera?seriously it’s worst
than normal, is it normal if you fly in windy the camera resolution are
affected……
It maintains the last input from the controller for approximately 3 seconds
(attempting to regain signal). If it doesn’t regain signal, the motors
stop, and it drops. But being very light, it drops relatively slowly. In
most cases, it doesn’t get damaged from the drop (unless it lands on
asphalt or concrete). Anyways, the above review is for the old version.
This has since been updated, and now is one of the best quadcopters for
beginners. Please see the following
Pues yo pedí el mio creo k es bastante bueno
I got my first quadcopter this morning, an SYMA X5C. Can someone tell me
what the memorty stick looking item is for. I received no instruction on
the camera or the memory stick.
It’s a memory card reader. It’s used to download the video from the
camera’s memory card to your computer so that you can view the video. You
can remove the memory card from the camera by gently pushing inward on it
(it’s spring released). Then carefully slide the card into the reader, gold
contact points forward. Be careful inserting. If there’s any resistance,
it’s upside down. Just flip it and try again. Finally insert the reader
into the USB port of your computer. The card should show up as a drive that
you can open to view the video file and view it.
I’ve seen a bunch of your videos today as i’m shopping for a drone, they’re
really nice!
I liked the Syma x11 the most, but i found out that the Syma x5 costs 5
bucks more.
So wich one is better for a beginner?
Actually i saw it on eBay, but then i found the x11 for 25 dollars and i
instantly bought it, also i will fly it 80% indoors so it seems a better
option ☺
Where did you find a Syma X5? The camera-less version from Syma is hard to
find, unless you buy a non-Syma clone.
so how does this compare to a hubsan x4 HD?, which is about $40 more
expensive
Hubsan products have always been somewhat “pricey”. But first off, this
video is of the original X5C which had some problems. Please see the
following for the performance of the currently shipped version
By the way, the X5C is a much larger, and much more stable flier than the
X4.
Hi there quadcopter 101 can you think of any reason why my camera has
stopped working? The red light comes on when I bind it but that’s it, won’t
record or take photos
+David Amos Yep, the card would be the next thing to look at as they are
notorious for failure (microSD). Might want to try a different card also.
Thanks for reply. Yes I always do that. Somebody else said something about
reformatting the sd card? It’s not flashing red when I press record, but it
briefly goes red when I turn on quadcopter
Do you remember to stop the recording (make sure the light goes back to
green) before turning off the quadcopter? This is very important as the
camera doesn’t write to the card until you press the button to stop
recording.
is there a beginers mode on this quadcopter
+Lars van Beek No, the V959 is old and very hard to fly. Instead I
recommend the new X5C-1
+Jordi Albers ah dankje voor het helpen ik heb nu de wltoys v959 quadcopter
op het oog is die goed vind jij, of moet ik het niet doen?
+Lars van Beek hello quadcopter 101, this boy speaks dutch so i’ll help
him.
Zeker leuk ding!
+Lars van Beek yes it is an excellent quadcopter for beginners.
yes i have saw youre video but i cant buy this drone in my country, is this
drone the X5C a good for a beginer
about a week ago week ago!!
quadcopter and jordi albers is this the link to the syma x5c-1
Syma x5c or DM007 ?
Syma X5C. Most of the problems shown above have since been corrected by
Syma
how mutch gram or kilo can it hold ?
My I point out that this looks like a syma X5
Thanks for replying. Enjoy your videos, I’m actually catching up and
viewing all of them. I’m getting into Drones and heli myself, as an
additional hobby. One more addition to my hobby list, Already into computer
tech, very expensive hobby, jeje.
Yes it does, but with an included camera. This was the original, and
problematic version of X5C. This original version is no longer being
produced and is no longer available. Syma has since corrected the problems
of this quadcopter. The current version of the X5C is an excellent
quadcopter
You walk couple meters and you BREATHE LIKE RUNNING A MARATHON LOL …
Pretty good add for a low price Quad. the range is after all stated at
5oMtrs
This is the old version. The current improved version flies much better
Hi, I saw a video on YouTube about mounting a sj4000 onto the syma x5c and
the quadcopter being able to fly. Can you tell me how to do it? Weight
reductions etc.
+Quadcopter 101 Thank You!
+clivelingcs0329 Don’t do it. Although you may be able to temporarily lift
it, you will certainly stress your motors, and may require replacing them.
0:10 lol
I got my new sky hawkeye, but i still want to buy another fpv quad, can you
suggest another fpv quad for my second quad my friend…
+Romel Tabbal I like the F802D. Nice long flight time and reasonable range
I’m watching cash I am planning to buy one thanks surely gonna hover
+Nathan Emmanuel How about this one at $26? No camera though.
You are in RC? Where is this flying range?
+Mogman150 Near Richmond gate. Here it is on Google maps
here’s some more info
I used to fly a trex 450 professionally (sponsored) back up until 09. Wanna
get back into it, can this decently in my enclosed backyard or the park
mostly moving slow or hovering no higher than 20 feet max most of the time?
+Quadcopter 101 awesome thanks.
+Kandi Klover Yes. Syma has improved it greatly since this old video.
Here’s how it flies now
I got one. Doesn’t record, poor stability, easily broken, and loses control
at about 20 ft. 3/10, I don’t recommend.
+2gooby 4pls 20 ft? That one is definitely defective. Since this video was
made last year, Syma has corrected most of the problems shown in it. The
current version of the X5C is very good as shown in the following
If anyone has questions about this drone, I have the same one, with
tutorial videos on my channel, I also respond to any and all questions very
quickly.
Why in the first place would you want to take it so high that you cant even
see it to see how it is responding?
+David Gardynik This was the original X5C (see the video date). It had
problems which Syma quickly corrected. Here’s the current version being
shipped. It’s one of the best quadcopters for beginners entering the hobby
I know, I have one and its great. Just done know why someone would want to
take it that high and just look at a dot in the sky, that’s all l. Have a
nice day!
Strange I’m able to perform banked turns with my x5c just as smooth as when
I’m flying the dji phantom 2.
Got ya no probs mate. Thanks
+rogue5022 The video above is the original release of the X5C. It had
problems which Syma quickly corrected. You likely have the upgraded X5C
model (sold since Fall of last year). It is an excellent flier as shown
here
Hey man!! Hou much is Dronner??
Nice!!
How many meters HE FLIES ?
This Droner can handle the weight of a GoPro??
Thanks!
+Quadcopter 101So that there can handle load a GoPro friend? The site that
sent me and her ? You sell?
I would indicate a site that I can buy and get quiet here in Brazil ?Thanks
for help me!!
+Rodolfo Glauber Here’s the current price
But this can not carry a GoPro. If you wish to carry a GoPro, you will need
a bigger quadcopter. This $109 quadcopter can carry the GoPro
Lmao
Who is better quadcopter 101 the syma x5c or the jjrc h8c for the camera
and the power?
They are the same quadcopter. Just different name.
+Quadcopter 101 last question what about the JJRC H8C and the DFD F183 who
is better?
+Leonardo Pano JJRC H8C is better for camera and power. BUT you will run
into maintenance problems with its motors, so recommend purchasing spare
motors with it.
