Vousie You might be right. Unless it’s distant enough maybe ? I don’t know. It’s worth a try in my opinion.
@Paul Cousin How do you mean distant enough? Currently it seems we have two 180 deg cameras – their FOV is like half a sphere. If you separate them slightly, you’ll have two half-spheres with a space between them.
Of course – it could be fun to try, but the trouble is those two cameras are molded into that housing, so it might be problematic to actually put them on either side of the quad, and then it’ll probably not even work because of the above reasons.
Vousie V The lens have to be wider than 180 for the image to be complete ever with such a tiny camera like this. If you separate both the blind zone just expands. Think about the distorted view of the drone in the footage of this video. It still is crossing the blind spot of this camera. But behind it, the image is complete. So I think it would work if you don’t get too close to what you are trying to capture.
@Paul Cousin Maybe, but I still think that the size of a drone is a bit much to separate it. Also, if you were gonna do it yourself, you’d likely have to essentially rewrite the software that stitches it, which would be an insane task.
Vousie V Maybe you are right. As a product development scale, it seems doable thought. And what a product it would be! A flying 360 camera that that you can race… Dream shots are sure to be had. The idea of those guys to attempt it in the first place is really great.

please dont argue about whether a fpv drone is better or a dji drone is better, its comparing apples to oranges here. they are not at all meant for the same purpose, you wouldn’t want super fast-paced insane drone shots in a travel video, just like you wouldn’t want slow cinematic shots in an action movie.

If you can put an ND Filter over the lenses it will blur the props and you’ll get better footage. I use one on my GoPros to blur the prop on my Aerobatic Plane.

You need to use the insta360 plugin for aftereffects/premiere, you don’t have to stich and you can use preimeres VR tools to do horizon correction and such. The gopro VR reframe plugin is also great for tiny planet stuff!

A 16cm extension arm works well with the Insta360 OneX, although this setup needs a bigger drone. I have my One X2 on a 7″ quad. Also don’t forget to enable anti-flicker in the camera settings:

Why mount it on the top? Mounting to the bottom makes so much more sense, even if the image was then upside down you’d only need to flip it in post. There’s a perfectly good reason why drones don’t have their cameras awkwardly strutting upwards ?
