During the 10 years Alina and I have been active as filmmakers (5 years with a drone), we’ve had to learn much of our trade through trial and error and experimentation. We want you to learn from our mistakes so here is a list of 8 mistakes we regularly see with beginner drone filmmakers. Now, there’s nothing wrong with being a beginner! But the fact you’re taking the time to find out what you don’t know and then do something about it means you’ll half the time it takes to make the transition from beginner to expert!!
Your videos have helped me alott I appreciate that someone actually makes good youtube tutorials on drones ????!
Will shooting a video at for example 50 or 60 fps and then exporting it in post production to final 24 fps be the same as shooting video in 24 fps? I’d like to shoot video in high as much fps i can because you never know if you will do slowmotion of some shot or not. Btw. did you notice that Mavic Pro videos shot in 1080/96fps are saved as 1080/24fps and video players play them in slowmotion because of that. Is that a bug or a feature?
I loved the two Stewarts, great effect. And I took down notes on all your great tips. Thanks for sharing.
You clever boys 😉
Always a great show! I know you two stay busy, but I would love for you to critique my work. I’m just learning, but my girlfriend is an extremely successful wedding photographer, and I’m pursuing wedding Videography to accompany her. Right up your alley! Keep up the great work!
Well done on this one!
Awesome
I hope Red Shirt’s day rate is as good as Blue Shirt’s!
Girlfriend: Are they twins? ?
Great job!
Hi Stewart, always love your videos and it’s been really helpful for improving my drone filming skills! Keep it up man!! I own a Mavic Air and got ND filters from PGYTech on all the time, however I get quite a bit noise in the dark area in my video even it’s shot in bright sunlight. Is this normal?
Nice video! It was really funny !!
I’ll take your tips in account.
Very funny!
I have learned so much you, you, and Lena.
I’ve just come back from a week long trip through absolutely beautiful scenery only to find that I was in such a rush to get a shot that I didn’t take the time to make manual exposures. So now I’ve had to edit around the automatic exposure changes rather than edit to what would be more appropriate. I’ve also fallen into the trap of forgetting to set up the correct frame rate. Sure it’s all part of the learning experience but the great information that you provide not only provides a short cut to better drone footage, it reminds me to take a deep breath and take my time to think through what I’m going to do.
I think that many people like myself who have a still photography background have gotten lazy and complacent because of how good auto exposure combined with auto bracketing can be for still photography. Trouble is that video is a whole other beast.
Thanks for talking so much sense and reminding me to take my time.
Your duality distracts me from watching, forcing me constantly thinking about how it was filmed. 🙂
That ring on your hand ??? great idea and really excelent synchronization “guys” ??
What’s the best film editing tool for a beginner?
