Would you like to build a freestyle kwad from the ground up?
Chad (Rotor Riot CEO) plays the part of a complete noob with access to the Pro Pilots – Joshua (FPV KnowItAll) and Alex (Captain Vanover) walk him through the process of choosing, buying and building a Freestyle FPV quadcopter.

Having spare parts helps. Good to have on hand if something breaks and also good for trouble shooting.
I love the disdain Joshua has for Chad
I love how most the stuff is from China but sold on the rotor riot site at a slight premium ?
BUY COLORED PROPS, YOU WILL THANK ME WHEN YOU’RE LOOKING FOR YOUR CRASHED QUAD
that guy chad doesn’t let joshua talk that dude has his mind made up.
Why would you need rxsr rx with telemetry when the xm+ has an rssi signal? I only want to point out to the beginner, the xm+ is cheaper, easier to wire, and has better range. Only thing rxsr will do is make your radio yell all day, telemetry lost, because range sucks.
Project 399 super G+ in the wild
Nice how they keep cutting OFF the racer kid!!!
Right On Chad,, appreciate your putting urself in the newbie seat,,, and also for calling those 2 out for being Pro Snobs,,, I cant stand that,, right now I have 3 that I dont know what the heck my issue is?! Kopis1, Kopis2, and Hawk5 flew perfect. ,, literally landed perfectly. No wreck,, then switched out my battery, then attempted to fly again , but Nothin?! Have No Clue what is wrong, just pissed cuz that’s ashit load of $$ to be just sitting in my closet…?! Anyone have any ideas??
My frame have 15mm between too and bottom i have a hard time fitting everything inside…
Best episode on the channel. Both the Rotor Riot and RDQ stores need to stock an all inclusive 5 inch kit. Literally down to the soldering iron, solder, heat shrink, zip ties. I’ll help develop it. I think with the CL1, a mamba stack, and careful part selection we could keep it to $199 and really help beginners.
Really thinking of doing this built. I wanna start shooting with drones. Sick footage all the time!!!

This video has maybe a background message.. It’s a bit not like something before (it’s only my first option)
you always plug in flight controllers first before you build i setup my fc before i start my build but i know all my same beta f settings love it though great video guys
Jb so angry from the ?stupid kids
Great video for relatively newbie like me! I was looking into buying all the components yesterday and the check list is the first thing I wrote down even before watching this video. There were some great tips and knowledge from JB ( I definitely learnt something today?)
A BUNCH of good info for us nubz, great stuff 😉
BEST video RR, well done. now, Just have to put an effort into Product details so we get incorrect parts due to misleading details, or is the method of moving dead stock? hmm
like the idea of a checklist…. tick off what you have before you get started and let the shop page check off the rest as you add them to the cart… also have a nitty gritty addon feature so if you pick a smaller fc than the mounting holes it automatically recommends a 3d printed mount etc.
its called up selling… try it… XD
Whats version of crossfire are you guys running?
hehe i am at Hell, yes right i do plan my first ever quadcopter build 😀 … goal is 270$ From nothing to Fly FPV
so chad doesn’t fly? he just start RR for a business to make money?
This is crazy… Kap was a pioneer in the fpv hobby and I use to watch him build tricopters and rip around the field way before the drone craze started! Hard to believe he’s been distant from it!
Adding up the parts you’re looking at almost $400. How is that beginner friendly?
Stacking the stack. Also my problem. Now I feel smart instead of normal.
The Mach 2/3 is square but wider than a Tramp. The Tramp is narrower but slightly longer. Also Tramp shows channel / power just like the TBS Unify does. Yeah a multi-segment display is easier to read, but it’s there.
@45:24 VANOVER! (who’s name is also his own battle cry!) nails it. Yes that is exacltly what you need for the noobs, step by step, with a checklist. no doubt.
Good Video. What has gotten me numerous times is the USB cords and the green light blue light or green light on the rxsr
This Frame is made for seperate Esc’s on the Arms. Why not go with this and have enough Room for the VTX and Receiver with the TPU Mount?
Its not as bigger issue these days, but in the past I struggled a bit with ESC calibrating and setup (min/max throttle etc). I understand that this video is more about the shopping process and selection of gear, however I think what is lacking is the software side of things. Having said that there is ample content on this already on the Tube. Entertaining none the less, thanks.
Could you put a complete kit together for the driblet? I would like to build one but sourcing all the components and standoffs screws etc is too complicated and adds an additional layer of frustration to this already very frustrating hobby. Too many choices = ANALYSIS PARALYSIS and is preventing me from ordering.
Most interesting thing in this video is how much stuff they want to buy that is out of stock.
Awesomeness
Making me wanna build one…
Love this video!! I just ordered all my parts to build a CL1 yesterday, and I can’t wait to get it put together. After watching your video I totally realized I forgot to order props (DOH!) This video is super helpful for a beginner like myself, and has really got me thinking about how I want to set it up, while I’m waiting for the parts to arrive. Keep up the great work, and I hope to see more build vids from you guys in the future!
Watched this whole thing again. IMHO: you have two basic customer groups; experienced and inexperienced and they need different things from rotor riot. I can’t speak for the experienced pilots/builders because I’m not one. The focus for inexperienced builders/pilots should be “less is more”. There’s too much to try to absorb in the beginning; its like trying to take a sip from a full flowing fire hydrant, I built The CL1 from Bardwell’s video step by step. My biggest frustration was that the kit was missing parts and I had to delay my build. Also after completion it would have been nice to have a few more get started videos and some tweaking videos to begin to gain experience.
11:59 Nope. The things you’re gonna change the most on a quad are the props.
This is the best vid in a while.. There are not enough vids about learning now a days. Great job
