Super informative video thank you sir..
Great video good info..Thanx.. happy flying, going out now to fly mine.???
Outstanding! Subscribed.
Thanks M8 … I can say yesterday I flew long-range (total >10km) and on my way back I was at <5% and it did want to land, I ignored this and kept flying 'home' ... I saw 0% but still managed (close to 2 min) to bring it home, guess there's a little 'reserve' in the battery!? keep up da go(o)d worx! ¶ ;-)--~
Very informative ?
Great video…
I would have to buy drone 1st and that is not going to happen..
Listen to this man, he knows what he’s talking about. He has set more lipo batteries on fire than anyone else I know 😀
Smart batteries are what put me off investing in off the shelf drones. It’s not just the ridiculous price but the fact that once a company stop producing these proprietary batteries the drone becomes a paperweight on borrowed time. I understand that they make life easier and safer for those with limited technical knowledge but in seriousness £140 for a low C rated 6s 2000mAh with a simple BMS circuit is extortion. Bruce quite correctly coined it when he said that the DJI FPV Drone, and other drone reliant on similar batteries, are the inkjet printers of the RC world. They’re a cash cow for the manufacturer and destined to be prematurely obsolete.
thank you
I left My phantom 4 batteries fully charged when put away for 6 months not using them all three had charge in the not full but charged up no bother 3 wks ago ,I’ve been out helping search for a weee missing dog and have had no bother .they’ll be 5 yrs old at the start of June look after them and it’ll save you in the end
You are the absolute best review person
Thank you
To me the batteries are a bargain
Having experienced two lipo fires
I have been praying for this
Not up to acro on this beast yet but it’s coming
These batteries are cheap. !@
nice one, subbed
You’ve done a nice summary on the batteries. Several years ago, I got a phone call from an LG Chemical sales manager who worked at the headquarter. He asked me the possible use of Li-Polymer or Li-ion batteries for UPS system for broadcast transmission sites. I asked back to him ‘What’s the optimal operation temperature for Lithium-based batteries?” He answered me without hesitation. It’s 25 degrees Celsius. Below/above 25 degrees, you could face the reduced battery capacity with no exception. You’d better change your comment with 15 degrees in the video.
This is a common LG Chemical MJ1 18650 cell datasheet. In the document, you will see the discharge temperature range is from -20 to 60 degrees Celsius. Just below the line, it was said that the cell will keep its life only one month under -20~60 degrees Celsius environment. As far as now, JAPAN’s FDK is making NiMH cells which endure more temperature range with 1/3 of Li-ion cell voltage. Life time of high quality NiMH cells will live longer than 15 years (FDK had checked it no more than the years written on it. I have dozens of SANYO NiMH cells still working at home. SANYO was sold to PANASONIC and it became FDK under the umbrella of Fujitsu.). Lithium 2ndary battery technology is not so happy with the earth environment by now. The age of solid Lithium ceramic battery is coming with more than twice the energy density than the current Li-ion. TOYOTA. MURATA, Panasonic, Maxell , TAIO YUDEN etc are running hard for the full solid batteries now. Japanese companies occupied more than 50 percent of the full solid battery technology with patents back in 2018.
I have a phantom 4 battery deslbalance. Can I open my self I calibrate?
The DJI fpv come down once the lipo voltage is critical. Had experienced that myself. It just comes down slow and pushing throttle up does not help much. It then hardly manages to keep the altitude.
Thanks for the video. I got my DJI FPV Combo today and observed something strange. I can connect the googles and take off with the drone without activating them first (just bring both gimbals together at the bottom) So I don’t have the system connected to my smartphone or app at any point and I can still use it.
This is not normal or?
Why should I activate the system?
I am not sure, maybe he says this in the video… maybe not. But these DJI batteries actually self discharge for storage. I have a few DJI products, and at first I was weirded out by the fact that I would charge batteries and if I didn’t use them they would all be down to 75% charge after 3 days. But after some research I found that the batteries actually know how many cycles they have been through and they discharge themselves, ohh I just heard him say it as I type this. HAhah, Yea, Pretty “smart”
Me blasting the packs at full power, especially when they are fresh XD, but great video! Especially tapping the button to prevent discharge is great to know for a longer trip or so. 100% agree on all packs, don’t fly unless you charged them within the last 48 hours.
Hi, you are showing nearly at the end a photo of an extension with another RC battery until now I couldn’t find any photo or description in forums. Where is this photo from? Are there already more known battery hacks? I was trying to attach another battery to the controller and unsoldered the origin battery. First it was no Error by just pulling out the balancer cable. But as I unsolderd the + and resolderd the battery know ist just blinking with one LED and does not power the drone … Needs to be further investigated 🙂
Did you measure 3.8v for storage? And it was about 50%. I’m surprised by this but it’s excellent information. I was thinking it would be a much lower percentage.
How do I charge the dji fpv goggle lipo? I can’t find any info about this.
Love your comment ‘link to overpriced fpv batteries’. Looking forward to hearing more about your builds and mods as pilots get more used to these quads.
These smart features to be built into the battery are bullshit. These can be built into the drone and the battery could be cheaper. I fly RC helis, we alo have Battery capacity measurements, voltage, and current measurements built into the speed controller itself. So i know exactly that i discarged 2893 mah from the 5000 battery. They just want to make more money on batteries….
Thanks Mad, really helpful. Looking forward to the chargers diy video. I just don’t want to spend so much money on Fly and More combo
What a great video! Im impressed.
Thank you for de-mystifying the FPV Smart Battery! I just love that you share some info that will keep all of us flying!
How would you discharge one of these packs…. with a light bulb
