I took a look at this this morning and I think for the entire package it is a little expensive and in my opinion has a bad path to build up to full size racing quads. But I do feel that can be resolved fairly easy. Basically if you want to move on to a better quad or a better transmitter it would be really good if the transmitter for the radio is in a JR slot so you can get a better transmitter and move the JR transmitter from the basic controller to something better like a frSky transmitter or anything that has a JR slot so you can still use the quad you got with the kit. So you don’t have to buy both a new quad and a transmitter all at once.
But also do get me started on the brushed micro which you are going to need to replace the motors. I would think that a sign that you should be using brushless motors is the fact the pack comes with 2 spare brushed motors.
I also think it is funny they call it a racing drone and it has a dorsal fin. Hehe
Fatshark got into the fpv market very early. There goggles systems were some of the first on the market, and they very quickly started making high-quality, high-end ones. Until about a year-and-a-half ago, very few models of fpv goggle were considered to be competitive to a fatshark system. But, it was more about the fact that they were one of the only game in town then it was about the quality their product. To this day, many people who use them prefer a couple of their older models to anything new, and many of the models from three or four years ago are considered obsolete. Their Dominator 3s and there HD2s are about the only ones that come highly recommended by many Pilots. Their transporter series can be very hard on the eyes. And all fatshark systems are hard on the wallet, with the Dominator 3 is running about $550 Canadian.
There video transmitter systems only ran on eight channels, that weren’t compatible with the ones that other companies were using. These days, the only reason people still use the original fatshark video transmitters is because they have them laying around. Too many other brands with Superior video transmitters are on the market.
In the past year and a bit numerous Alternatives have come out that have been very successful, some of the same price point and some much cheaper.
The Aomway Commander goggles have been a huge success in the past year, they run about $325 and have all the same capacity, and require fewer aftermarket parts. Version 2 is about to hit the shelves, and it is looking pretty appealing. Most people who review fpv equipment seem to think that the commanders are a superior product.
Skyzone fpv goggles also took a huge bite out of Fatshark they aren’t great for someone who wears glasses, and have a feature nobody uses, which is a camera built into the goggles so you can toggle back and forth between seeing what your drone sees and seeing what is in front of you. But at $450, they have a lot of the same features without needing to buy aftermarket parts like a lot of Fatshark Goggles do.
Down at the cheap end, I am using the Quanum Cyclops goggles. They cost about $60, and while the original was lacking in some important features, the version 2 allows you to record your video and install external parts that give you upgrades. Unlike the Fatsharks and Aomways, which require you to buy special insert diopters if you otherwise need glasses, which get very expensive, the Cyclops will fit over your glasses no problem, and has both a good receiver and an excellent screen.
Then there is the eachine VR series, which are a mixed bag, but rarely cost more than $100, and have a rich array of features. Most people will start with a pair of these now. The new eachine ev100 goggles are not getting rave reviews for the quality of the receiver or screens, but came with a ratcheting system that lets you adjust how far the screens are from your eyes, eliminating the need for glasses or diopters altogether. It was a pretty mind-blowing Innovation from a company that mostly sells clone parts.
So, Fatshark is desperately trying to hold on to their position in the market. Especially with big rock stars in the fpv community now transitioning over to goggles like the commander. This starter kit is a way to get people started on fatshark products at a way lower cost, and updating their technology at the same time. Unfortunately, the goggles they are marketing with this kit are nothing like the high-end Fatshark tech. This is a gamble on creating brand loyalty.
That snowy landscape at the beginning of your drone video is amazing!
Nice flight footage again, in the fatshark add when you see them flying there happens to be two professional FPV pilots in there I spotted straightaway pretty sneaky, and at that price way too expensive to get into FPV there are many many cheaper options for new pilots who want to try this hobby. I used to use fatshark goggles but, Like alot of people now i use Skyzone goggles personally I think there the best. And the forward camera feature is extremely useful not to mention some of the other features.
