Never seen this channel before. Don’t know what the usual content happens to be. From what I’ve gleamed, he likes to learn new things and judging from this video, is honest about the experience.
I’ll say this, if you are considering this hobby, his breakdown was ?…They’re like street bikes, or boats, but worse. And flying! Hahahahahaha… If you weren’t born with this tech, you will want to start on a sim. It takes a really long time to get the feel. So unless you have a lot of money, start on the sim.
You spend extra $10 for mini gps module and get it back if control signal is lost

What simulator did you use to practice?
Hope someone sees this question: how can I build this drone but include prop guards so that, as a beginner, I’m not constantly destroying the propellers ?
I wouldn’t bother with prop guards on a 5 inch. Makes sense on a smaller indoor drone but not something like 5 inch. Practice in the simulator so you crash less and then just expect to change props every now and again.

Any of the popular radios will be plug and play with a simulator. Taranis Q X7, Taranis x-lite, Jumper T16. The Flysky FS6 is an affordable radio but doesn’t play nicely with a simulator, so I’d avoid.

What i don’t like about your video is that you keep mentioning that there is NOT a lot of information online… Not true, there are tons of information since a while. You also go and say “good luck” to your viewers into building the drone. Which you should be convincingly telling your audience that anyone could make one if they do their research. You seem to be very negative in your process into building that drone. Yes it may be difficult to build and fly but you gotta encourage your viewers into getting into FPV drones. That’s all I gotta say ?
If you know how to solder and do your research it may take some time but it is far from impossible I am 14 and have built 2 fpv drones.

what goggles do you ahve and is there anything you can do to get rid of the interference that you get when you fly? does the more expensive goggles get rid of that?
Shortest answer, the PID (or at least PI depending on the manufacturer) controller that most people are familiar with is cruise control on their car. Proportional (how far off the error is – ie you’re going 20mph when the preset is 65), Integral – how much accumulated error you have (30mph off for 10 seconds implies the need for more correction than 30 mph off for 1 second), Derivative – How fast the current state is changing relative to the desired output. In other words, if you went from 30mph below desired to 26 mph below in 1/8 of a second, you’re going to overshoot the desired speed in less than 1 second at current inputs. The idea of the PID is to get you where you want to be, quickly, comfortably and without overshooting (ie it would be bad to accelerate to 75, drop to 58, then up to 72, down to 60, up to 67 and back to 65….you want a smooth “round off” of the acceleration rather than oscillating/ringing above/below.

What FPV flight simulator did you use?
PID usually stands for the proportional, integral, derivative regulator (control). I was studying it 15 years ago, so I might forget something but this is what I remember.
P needed to react on Present adjustments, you are asking motors to use more power and it uses more power directly linearly. Imagine drone is falling down and you use more power because the drone is heavy, it will not immediately change its direction, it will keep falling for some time, and you keep increasing power more and more because you think it is still not enough, but at some point of time it will change direction and power will be so hight so it will go up very fast and you slowing down, and process repeat, so you will never be able to keep level.
So you need an integral part, this part is using history, and longer power is changing to one direction the smaller adjustments going to be, you want to use it if you want to keep the same level for a long period of time.
And the derivative part, it actually looking to the future, it is trying to predict what you want, so if you increase power quickly from neutral position all the way to the highest, it will exaggerate it and ask motores to work on full as fast as possible.
So it can be tuned based on your need.

using a racing drone is not in itself a competitive sport and using it for cinematic purposes is a valid reason to enter this hobby as unless your a profession racer i wouldn’t really be putting “150% of my focus” into this as to mast people this is just a hobby and unlike a youtuber we don’t get paid for this type of stuff that’s why it is a hobby

This is the worst video about fpv its very simple soldering its not that expensive you can build a good one with a radio for about 350 or probably cheaper you can just pop it out of you back pack and get some cinematic shots its not just for racing. There are sooo many videos on youtube for this hobby makes it sound so hard and unobtainable but its really not that steep of a learning curve. So please stop misinforming beginners and people that want to get into the hobby

Dec 2015 I was injured, Jan2016 I got my first drone, one month later the first Phantom a few more months the mighty racing drone, now I know exactly what you are taking about, I still can’t fly worth a shit, but now I will get me a simulator.
