Stew, I’ve got quite the predicament. I want to make a “tiny whoop” but I’m not sure if there’s an easy way to make one that can bind with the Turnigy Evolution. I read somewhere that the Turnigy Evolution is compatible with flysky receivers but there are other conflicting resources that say otherwise. If they do work then there are some kind of “aftermarket” Inductrixs’ that have the flysky receivers. Could you look into this?

B) This video really helped me understand the racing drone build process. My first quadcopter was made of cheap components adding to $40 but the quality was nothing compared do this $99 one. It has a good camera and goes much faster. Additionally, it is much more robust as I just taped the components on my first drone.

Did fly for a 30-40 secs in Freezing cold weather . The quad then lost altitude and crashed in icy grass… then went out of balance. Too cold to try a lot of options but crashed a couple of more times and then finally gave up. Came home dried up my quad a little with hair dryer… initially the blue light glowed gradually. But now no lights on flight controller. Too much for first day but had fun ????
Did I lose some stand offs or did I not get enough with what I bought? I feel I’m doing something wrong. I only have 4 stand offs for the esc but those 4 are the only ones that can take a screw. Kind of confused. Any help would be appreciated. 🙂

So I got a Sharper Image drone for Christmas….really an uncontrollable piece of dung of a drone. Even still though…I think the concept has me hooked enough to attempt a build of your upgraded drone version. Even though I won’t be a racer…the sheer control of the aircraft is amazeballs!

Hey hopefully not to late for some help, but I’ve followed most of these steps and I can connect to beta flight and have proper power to motors. My receiver is bonded with my FS T6 but.. my quad won’t respond to transmitter inputs or Arm motors. Motors only move with beta flight.

I just finished building the drone and now i have to tune and to configure the fc BUT when i connect the FC the Cleanflight and or Betaflight it doesn’t works. I am building the upgraded version and bought the frsky xsr receiver but do not understand how to wire it in. There are many more wires than just the four points on the flight controller. Please help.

I’ve done a ton of soldering for the USAF. The most important thing is to keep your iron clean by wiping it on a wet sponge and using alcohol to wipe off the flux on your connections. Many soldering videos on YT.

I’m looking at this as my first build – Totally new to Quads and haven’t “played” with RC gear since the early 80s and so apologies in advance for this newbie question BUT . . . rather than swap the motor wires to the ESC for motors 3 & 4, would it be acceptable to simply swap over the yellow and green wires to the Flight controller?? I want to understand what I’m doing before I start building. Great video and great site Stu . . I’m hooked!!! Just hope I can keep my fingers out of the props unlike when I was a kid with my OS glow engines!! It seems all I need to do with this modern electric stuff is not burn down my house!! 😉

Thank you for your passion and information. Just starting to do so research into this hobby. And would far sooner build something than buy. This looks like a great first build, thank you once again.
Loved the video, but there were a few things that could have been better. If your new to this and you go to buy a soldering iron buy the one with the fine tip and not the fat one. It would make soldering way easier, another thing would be binding the remote to the drone. Make the binding device visible because I thought it went horizontally and not vertically but after some hair ripping moments I figured it out. The video was great though and now I built my own drone thank you for the hard work.

I am in the process of building the pro version on this quad but with the Martian 2 from and I would like to note for other people making this decision the upgraded camera does not fit in with the mount on the frame, if anyone has a way of mounting the camera to the Martian 2 frame please let me know.

Can this replace a dji spark?
Tony, I just built this over the weekend (my first). I didn’t have trouble with the video…except I had a plain black screen at first. When I’d reboot the camera, it would work. So for the few times I’ve powered up the unit, I’ve had to remove the power and try again to get the video to work. Both the vtx and the ccd are on the same 5V pad on the PDB. I looked up the channels. The VR-007 calls the ABEFR bands 12345 in the first digit of the displayed channel. So goggle channel 53 is VTX channel 3R (or R3). Hope this helps. Maybe try a different channel?

No. I got the “deluxe” board. Comes with a built in barometer and compass. You may not use those features right away, but maybe you’d like to after a while? PLEASE NOTE…It looks like the banggood link is to a generic or clone flight board. Stu kept saying “SP F3” which I later figured guessed was supposed to be “seriously pro F3”. But this is NOT a SP board. It is also not a NASE board (which the address of the page would suggest). It is a clone. And I have not yet gotten mine to connect with the PC. You need to configure it slightly before it will fly. Check Stu’s $300 build video which goes into connecting and programming. I only found that after a bit of googling. The building video is terrific, but how to connect receiver and configure transmitter and flight board is not easy for a noob. LOTS of terms to learn. The board did not come with ANY literature. Read the description. You’ll be using a chrome app to talk to the board. Now if I could just get mine to work…
I bought the Martian II and the upgrade camera. The camera fits the two holes in the side supports on its rotation axis mount (right and left side). It does NOT have long enough tiny screws to mount them to the board which goes behind it. But I may just double stick tape that. It’s being held by the pivot point. The back board will just set the angle. Right?

Hi, I binded my radio FS -i6S to my receiver FS iA6B and I can see input on betaflight.
I can also control my motors on betaflight but the drone won’t arm! If I raise up the throttle on the radio, motors won’t move but I see the input on menu “Receiver” on betaflight.
If I go to CLI, and I put “Status”, I see the error “CLI ARMSWITCH”, how could I solve it? Thanks

To make the wiring a lot nicer, wire the speed controller 3 ( ones labled c ) to motor 4 and speed controller 4 to motor 3, basically to each closest motor. Then when youre soldering the 4 wires from flight controller to the speed controllers, just swap the wires for motor 3 and 4. This will make the wiring much nicer without having to change any software

I’m not a fan of soldering but I’ll have to just do it I suppose. You have provided all the info, all the links, all the options. Fantastic. One quick question if I may…..I wear glasses for everyday activities. Of the FPV goggle head set preferences provided, is there a particular one I should aim for so that I can still wear my spectacles and the head set feels comfortable? Might be on your list, or might not – thought I’d check with the expert. I’d rather buy one good one that feels right from the word go. Also, are the goggle FPV head sets with built in SD card inputs the way to go, or not to worry about it for now. Thanks.

This is one of the most popular vids I’ve seen vets throw out to noob pilots who are looking to build their first quad. With the newer parts that are out, upgraded parts, parts that have gone down in price, etc, it might be another solid video for the viewers. I just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos. I recently got out of the Army and while I was out of the country my 10 year old son found your page and started to really liked all this drone stuff. We don’t have tons of money as I haven’t been employed yet as I suffer from PTSD (I was in Special Forces so my job was not only physical but mentally draining on me. Watching tour videos over seas bonded me and my little man so much. I’m hoping to one day get a couple drones for me and my son so we can get to spend time and I can get to know my son even more since I’ve missed out on so much. I see sometimes you have drawings for some of your builds and my son says it his dream to win us some drones since money is so tight and for us to have something fast and fun even at the 99 dollar bid is just a little out of my reach right now. He asked dad to find out maybe when your next build or give away might be and how my son and I can enter. He says it doesn’t matter what direction the flightcontroller is facing, but you need to put the direction into the computer after, if that makes sense.. how would you do that?! Receiver comes with the remote control he had listed. FS-i6 (FS=FlySky) Remote Controller. You buy the receiver along with the Remote Controller. Often you can buy these separately! So you dont have to buy them both together. You can mix other compatible brands of receivers and mix and match controllers. So just check when you are purchasing if the receiver comes with the controller. My receiver is the FSi6AB and Im using the FlySky FS-i6 Remote Controller.
Using Cleanflight! This is a software program used with Google Chrome. You download this program onto your computer. Then we use the small port on the side of the flight controller to connect up with your computer. You don’t need batteries to do this as the USB port on your computer will power this FC (Flight Controller) chip or board. USB smart phone android power chord fits the socket. Start watching videos regarding ‘Cleanflight’ and what’s called flashing the Flight Controller (Updating it basically).
Yes! or Well No! Setting offset axis on FC is considered programming by some….and just calibration by others. I happen to think FC offset is more like calibration.
Download Cleanflight to your deskyop or laptop computer. Open it in Google Chrome. Download google chrome if you have not got it. Click to open the cleanflight software. The first page has links to the software…click and download. Make certain your online and click on the links to the software. Links are pretty obvious and I think in BOLD font.
Plug flight controller in to a usb port and see if lights come on. Use a normal USB phone charging cable (NOT AN APPLE PHONE CONNECTOR). Red and blue lights then its not your flight controller.
Look up Stu’s second build I think it is. Look up PPM SBUS and PWM watch at least one Youtube clip explaining this. From one noob to another I think there are a couple of ways. But Im still learning. It may depend on the receiver you have purchased. I used PPM. Ill let you know if I get it sorted before you find out.
Try Hobby King for the same PDB. Stu has chosen this for cheap & reliability. There are many others
Sometimes the price has even risen on some parts when more people start to buy them more. 2 years time it will be a PDB FC ESC OSD LED GPS combined and other parts for $75.00. These drones however will always be developing and therefore the price should remain relatively high if you want modern performance. So what we use today may become obsolete as research and design sees newer control levels design concepts and engine power to weight ratios.

GB Yes I think you can but I’m really a booby and I’m not certain. I’ve only just updated the cleanflight and that was a huge learning curve. Just ask a couple of other people see how you get on with getting an answer.

I want to change the props on my two drones, a JJRC H47 and a H122 HUBSAN X4 because I have this curious habit to mod everything I can put my hands on! So I said to myself “why not?”…
Do you have some suggestions, apart the screw holes dimensions (that have to fit)? What about a 4 blades for the H122 and a 3 blade for the H47?

Don’t build your very first quad when it’s already too late. I couldn’t wait to start, even i was so tired.. messed up connection from esc to motor 3 and 4. i‘ve cut the %*$*~&! wires too short… now i either make those wires longer again, or use other motors.. very annoying

Problem description:
It flies. good actually! Until it doesn’t. I have tired it 3 times. After tens of seconds or about a minute or so, very suddenly one or two motors fail (at least it looks like that) and it flips, and goes straight for the ground and crashes. So three frames are done 🙁
I resoldered everything before the last flight.
I used these parts:
– Lantian PDB Power Distribution Board with BEC Output 5V 12V 3A for CC3C Naze32 Upgraded version for RC Drone
– F3 Flight Controller Acro 6 DOF/Deluxe 10 DOF for RC Multirotor FPV Racing Drone
– Racerstar Racing Edition 2205 BR2205 2300KV 2-4S Brushless Motor Red for 220 250 RC Drone FPV Racing
– Racerstar RS30A 30A Blheli_S OPTO 2-4S ESC Support 16.5 Dshot150 Dshot300 for FPV Racing
– FrSky XM+ receiver
– 1.3 Ah 45C 11.1V
Oh yeah: I did not do anything with high energy, just hovering, above the ground or in about 15m height. No racing was performed with it

just added a small extension….got it wired up no problems.
Is it safe to use 4s batteries with this? When running on a 4s LiPo, the motors would draw 27.6 A, while the ESC is only able to handle 20 A and 25 A bursts. This means that a burst of 100% throttle would run the ESC at 2.6 A higher than it is rated. Would this cause damage to the ESC or would it be able to survive?

hi, i just tried a different receiver, which works well and did some very low alt hover testing (20cm) and it happened over and over again. It is always the same motor that stops spinning for a second then the hole thing plummits (i guess the fc tries to keep it level, resulting in shutting down the other motors)
I tried to adjust the PWM settings in cleanflight, but it did not help. I now think, that the problem is the ESC no 2

started this project months ago and am still stuck on the binding. I have dont everything i can think of but in beta flight when i check the status in the CLI tab, I get RXLOSS error. I think this means that the receiver connection is not working. If anyone can tell me why this is still happening i would love it. Managed to build my very own $99 race drone using Stu’s video here. I used the Martian II frame instead and bought a separate Matek PDB and It went up to about $220USD including the FS-i6S I got to fly it. Just checked that it hovers! Wanna say a big ‘Thank you!”to Stu 🙂
I just recently started the upgraded drone and just realized I don’t have a battery to run this drone. What do you recommend ?
Hi guys! Im not certain if anyone has had the same issues. If you try setup the way Stu describes and your receiver binds to transmitter but is still not communication its rates within betaflight or cleanflight then solder the single signal wire from the receiver to the underside of the SPF3 flight controller to the single pad labelled PPM. You will see it clearly labelled. This should solve the issue. My UART 3 pad was providing power but not signal. So the RX does not work on some of these boards. Same issue existed with IBUS & PPM setup through the IO ports on my FC board. Power existed but not the signal cable. Try Stu’s way firstly but if problems persist try other port ppm io2. All else fails try what worked for me. Problem was immediately solved by directly soldering the signal wire to the small PPM pad. Cheaper Chinese copies are in my opinion often a total bum steer.

I used a different pdb and I got a runcam swift mini but I’m using the exact same vtx and flight controller that you have listed for the “upgraded” version. I got everything set up and already did a hover test the only problem I’m having is Im not sure how to monitor my voltage? I want it to show up on my OSD. When my battery is plugged in and I’m connected to bataflight it shows the voltage of my battery up top but how do I get it to my OSD? Please help

What kinda flight time you get?
Once you’ve followed this video: 1. install the usb drivers (like the manual for your sp racing f3 says) 2. use clean flight to upgrade the firmware, 3. then use betaflight to upgrade the firmware to betaflight. After that, watch “GET FLYING NOW $200” by Stu(uavfutures). After that, make sure you watch “Calibrate ESC with Cleanflight plus tips!” by Choony.

Hi, I just built this quad with a few upgraded parts. The camera is working fine but I’m not sure how to connect the receiver. It is bound to the transmitter and when I connect the battery, the transmitter gets the signal but nothing happens when I do something. No motor spinning and stuff, nothing. Can anyone give suggestions?
Big question: The ESC is a 20A 4in1 but the racestar motors habe a datasheet that says 27A under pull. So why does this not fry itself?

Hi, I’m a newbie building the upgraded version and I had a question. Instead of crossing the ESC wires for motors 3 and 4, wouldn’t it be easier to swap the signal wires for 3 and 4 at the connection to the FC? I understand for simplicity and not to confuse anyone it was done the way in the video, but would my method work to make it slightly cleaner?

from an earlier reply – Yes. Those thrust test numbers are exaggerated. They use big ±5000mAh LiPo or high current power supply so the voltage sag is very small. In our quad, we use much smaller 1300mAh LiPo and to make things worse, it has to power 4 motor so the voltage sag will be high and current will be limited.
Those ESCs are great. I’m running DYS XSD20A ESCs with 2205 2350KV motors.
Rcaddict also use DYS 20A ESC on his quad (Emax RS2205S 2600KV and Brotherhobby T2 2206 2300KV. Both of these motors known as power hungry motors!)

But unless i tested it to not draw mor than ESC’s spec, i will not try it out. For now I have 4x 30A, it is quite cheap, i am miles away to fully use it anyway. Kind of a beginner.

I pluged the battery in and the Matek Systems PDB-XT60 become very very hot. Now the LED from this component doesen’t work.

This is my first build and I have been able to get everything installed and programmed. My problem is when I test the motors in Betaflight, motor 3 will not function on its own. When I test motor 4, motor 3 and 4 activate together. Is this an esc problem? I have checked my signal wires and they all are fine.

Stew! I want to thank you for your awesome energy and commitment to this hobby. After watching this video I have completed my first FPV drone. Yesterday I had a few minutes before I had to be at my birthday party and I decided to give it a whirl. I did my first flight just line of sight and was super impressed with how this flies right at the get go. I haven’t adjusted rates at all yet and can only believe it will get better. I was so confident after the first line of sight flight I said what the heck and strapped on another battery pack, put on my goggles and proceeded to run my first FPV flight ever! I learned real quick that I should have been in a larger field but nevertheless had a great – nerve wracking flight and landed several times without incident. I am HOOKED!! 3 charged batteries waiting for me to get home tonight! thank you sir and best wishes to you and yours. Keep up the great work!!!

Hey, isn’t a 4S battery going to burn up the 20A ESC? Based on the chart for the motors, they pull 27.6 Amps with a 4S battery. He highly recommends this combination here. Am I missing something?
What else would be needed to make these autonomous? Say, for me to be able to program their trip by waypoint?

I was stunned by this video and needed to build my first quad. I did made the few bucks more version but damn it was and still is good fun. Flying really tangled me up in this hobby. Even so much that im now building an expensive one;) But this one really learned me how to fly a quad.

Hi, thanks for awesome video guides! Couple of newbie questions if you don’t mind. As the VTX is not connected to FC there will be no OSD on this build, right? Is OSD still possible with the upgraded version FC or does it require a different VTX? Another concern is the frame. All the arms are on one piece of carbon fiber and if you brake an arm during crash you need to replace whole base plate. Maybe it’s smarter to start with a frame with arms from different details or isn’t it really a problem?
I started with a “1300 3s” pack but now I’m flying with “1300 4s”. I had to solder a bit of 14AWG wire to the PCB to go 4s.
The frame is pretty strong. I haven’t broken an arm in the last year. I connected the camera to the FC and the signal from the FC is to the VTX (Eachine vtx03) and have OSD (MWOSD). If that is to any help;).

thanks, yeah i was looking at those VR011 they are a good concept i have an eachines screen i considered 3d printing a frame and turning it into a similar type of thing as the vr011’s, but in the end after watching nearly every review uavfutures has done on goggles, i decided to go with the ev100’s cause i dont like the idea of box goggles, they arrived the other day, but i have not had much chance to use them, but they are looking pretty decent, unfortunetly i dont have a racer, my drone is a big slow thing for photography, wouldnt mind finding a way to hack a cheap $50 drone to remove auto leveling and have an ultra cheap acro/racing training drone, thanks for the reply

What for battery have you used?
If you get a lipo and a radio, you end up at 180$… In germany, the cheap version w/ the improved fc but w/o fpv (might upgrade later) would cost as much as the eachine wizard w/ radio and lipo + the fpv stuff. Would you recommend this drone over the wizard or should I just get the wizard at that point? I would be happy to build something myself but if its still worse value it doesnt make sense to do.

Technical Tip. A sidecutter (wirecutter) has a flat and an angled side. Strip with the sidecutters flat side AWAY from the wires. It strips wires easier for some reason.
The flight length of these drones depends on how fast you go but u can expect about 5 mins at max probs. He does the programming in the second video.

PLEASE can someone help me! I am using the SP racing F3 with Cleanflight, with the $200 guide you made. I have soldered everything and connected my receiver, it connects but doesn’t arm or respond to throttle. So i assumed that i might need to ‘configure’ it in cleanflight/betaflight. My FC has Cleanflight written on it so i assume that’s what i should use. I’ve downloaded Cleanflight and all three drivers, plugged my quad in via usb and…….nothing. I seem to always fail to find the correct port to connect with. Do i need to flash the firmware or something? Or am i just failing? HALP MEH

OK, I’ve got one motor (#4) that will only bump in the right direction 4 times, then beeps, when the drone is armed and throttle is activated in any “on” position. The other 3 all run in the proper direction. What could be causing this problem? Is this a bad/junk motor problem? Everything else seems to be working.

OK, well this $99 quad has costs me an extra $60 so far!!!! I am learning very quickly why it’s a really dumb idea to buy Chinese junk!!! So far I’ve got a junk speed controller, F3 controller board with bad gyro, and a bad motor!! The only thing getting it finished is I purchased 3 of everything, knowing it was Chinese, and just figured it would be junk, and I’ve been right so far!!! First and last Chinese crap, junk, paper weight build for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The control range should last further away than you can see line of sight (up to around a mile with most standard gear and no obstacles with good antenna placement) but the fpv range will be about 500m on 25mw and standard antennae although you can easily increase that with better antennae or more tx power. Battery: 1300-1800mah 3-4s 70c+ lipos should do

Followed this video exactly. Can not get drone to fly. This is my first drone. Right now I have it connected to cleanflight. Board is flashed. It is picked up by receiver, and I can see my receiver controls on cleanflight working. Battery shows 0 volts. Can’t figure it out.

Hey guys! I hope someone can help me. I’ve finished the building of the upgraded version. If I plug in the battery everything is fine. I get video signal. And the radio works perfectly. But after a time the video transmitter gets very hot and then the radio keeps having dissconnections. If I turn down the transmitter from 200mW to 20mW the process is slowed down a bit. Could it be a problem to put the FC and the video transmitter on the same 5v connector on the PDB? It is exactly what he did in the video. But I think that the FC could restart caused by the hot transmitter (or the bad connection) so I lose connection with my radio. I have no better explanation for this.

Excellent video, the only thing I had trouble with was getting the reciever connected to the correct terminals which ended up being on IO 1.

Maybe more convenient way is to use connectors, this gives room for easy upgrade and repair, each time cut a wires and solder takes time.

I built the upgraded one just with a better cam and antenas but I didn’t even get it in the air and already killed esc, idk why… and due to esc short over-discharged the battery to around 8V and cuz I’m on budget I will have to send the esc back and wait like 2 months ohh. Wish me luck guys 😀

budget flysky $60/ solid median choice – frsky Taranis QX7 $105/ Top of the line choices are also in the FrSky lineup. I got a QX7 and spent $45 on upgraded gimbal sticks and I love it. There is a new FrSky lite controller that looks like a gaming controller that also has some good similar features to QX7. Hope this helps.

Had I do it all over again….I’d get an upgraded fc with a voltage regulator(helio spring fc), dys samguk motors, runcam swift 2 cam, maybe an upgraded 4in1 esc. The upgraded fc will remove the need for a pdb.

Mario D’ Quiroz yes, the camera takes video and sends it to the vtx which outputs the video at 5.8ghz and that signal is picked up by the fpv goggles. This all happens in around 0.05 seconds

Yesterday I finally finished my “cheap drone build”.
I started to buy the drone parts on October 2017, but some problems with China and delivery on my country (Brazil).
Each month I could buy something with a coupon or sale (and when dollar helps).
This delayed my project a lot, including some strip and heat shrinks that never came, but got few from a small local shop.
Got those red motors, pdb, basic fc3, changed escs for a 30v LiteS with Dshot600 support, I recommend a lot instead of 20A AllInOne if on sale.
Learned a lot about soldering, “do’s and don’ts”, proved my previous experience wasn’t that good, but could make it.
Now I’m trainning a lot with simulators and basic flights on real on my day off. Still have all my fingers, so I suppose must be going to the right way…

How long do the battery last?
You don’t need a PDB. That’s to distribute the power to multiple ESCs, your ESC is an all in one. You can solder those connectors straight onto a wire from the ESC and plug it into the battery.

Sadly enough drones & drone racing are as ruined as can be here in Belgium. This 99$ drone would cost me 750€ of training fees to be even allowed to fly it. I”ll stick to the little indoor drones untill things become managable, or i have to travel to holland to play around and drive 150 miles at the least. Still a great hobby

try using imersion rc driver fixer, and the stm driver is not installed to you fully open it up, so make sure that you run all the drivers. And also flash firmware in bootloader mode, and when you try to connect the quad for programming make sure you are not in dfu(Bootloader mode) say it on the top right (should say COM(and a bunch of numbers)
the fc shoudl have an arrow – point in to the front of the quad, it is important

Hey boss, nice vid but next time your working with a 4 in 1 esc, flip the wires that go to the flight controller. It’ll look less bulky than flipping those huge motor wires. 🙂

i managed to build this but it turns on and is binded to the transmitter but the drone wont respond to any signals any advise would be much appreciated, and also the FC wont connect to cleanflight or betaflight.

I just build a FPV drone trying to use the lowest price parts that are still decent. I found the EACT same ones you did, same PDP, FC, ESC, motors and camera. But I 3D printed the frame. I can make a VERY tough frame on my printer an if anything breaks I can make replacement parts. Cost is 2.2 cents per gram. Then I can modify the fram any way I like.
One comment — you cutt of the brick wire from the ESC to FC. That is a bad idea. It is a “signal ground” and is much cleaner then the power ground you are now using. Without that black wire the return path for the ESC signals is via the clack wire that goes to the PDB then through the PDB and so on. VERY noisy. Yes it works, but works better if you connect the black wire you cut to the ground rail some place very close to the black wire from the PDB.

HI UAVfutures, thx a mil for this video! I got 1 question about the ESC vs the motors used. In the specs of the motor it says: 2300 kv on a 14.8 (s4) with a 5045 prop you will pull 27,6A, the peak A of the ESC is 25. Would that be a problem if i use a 4S liPO on this rig with a 5045 prop? Hey guys, im making the same thing for my school project but it doesnt want to arm, as he showed in the video after assigning the switches and binding etc he flicks the switch and it arms but it doesnt work for me. Ive been into beta flight to see what could be the problem and still havent found a solution. note ive re wired the transmitter to the flight controller to see if that was the problem and that didnt work, there is an “I2C error:7” but im not sure what that is… Any help would be appreciated Thanks

I really like this video and bought all of the components! However, I wish you would have gone into further details about how to set up this specific flight controller with betaflight and a receiver. It would have been helpful to at least added a link to a different video where you set up this specific fpv drone with betaflight and different controller. With 99$ you will build an absolute trash. Chinese cheap components with high tollerances. Better to save money and build something high end. It will pay off in the long run.
What if instead of swapping the beefy cables of the ESC you swap the ones that control motor 3 and 4 from the FC? Would that work?

Hi i have a big problem, i just built everything and i dont know how to arm the motors, i can see on my fsi6 the battery of the quad but when i move my sticks nothing happens, i tried connecting the spf3 to my computer, its not detetced by betaflight, i downloaded the drivers, still nothing pls help…

I built my drone like you showed on the $99 video and i done everything exactly what you did but mine doesn’t work. I set the FC up properly on my computer and when i tried to fly it the back end would only lift up at full throttle and the front two motors would only move a little bit. So after a while after trying to figure what’s going on i noticed the motors were slowing down so i charged the battery and i did make sure i wasn’t over charging or anything like that and now the main power board had one light flashing and the other light stayed on. I also noticed the VTX started to flash some weird symbols. I’ve already done this once and had to buy new parts because my old ones broke from a short circuit (i think)

I’m super interested in building a drone, and your videos have helped a lot in finding the right price range, parts, and learning how to assemble. One thing I still don’t know enough about yet are the transmitters, remotes, and getting a pair of goggles for one of these things. I’ve found some good goggles online but my biggest concern is accidentally buying an incompatible transmitter. On top of that I’m also worried about the same issue with remotes. Any advice?

Hi im brand new to fpv racing drones and i want to build the upgraded version of this drone. I got to 32:32 and got confused when he started talking about recievers, are they the antennae that hang out of the drone? Are the recievers listed in the parts or do i need to find my own. If i do which one do i choose? Thanks.

Ive followed this guide step for step, all the lights come on when i plug a battery in yet no beeping from the ESCs what is going on?
After watching your videos I realised that if I was to make a drone it would be allot cheaper and I would get a better drone out of it. I regret spending my money on a pre built drone now

Looking for budget best bang for buck drone to use to chase drift cars. You should use a 4s-14.8v battery but I would highly recommend to get the v2 version of the $100 build.
Absolutely nothing, this quad doesn’t have a osd.
Yes, I wouldn’t recommend it personally though. I would also HIGHLY recommend to build the V2 verison of the $100 build since it comes with much better components.
You haven’t done something right if it took you 114 days and $500, it takes about a day to build a quad like this and it flies fine. You just simply do not know how to assemble a quad right.

So I finally got my build done and connected to Betaflight. What a learning process…. But I have a problem. Motor 4 will not spin. Tried another motor on #4 esc wires and still no luck. So for some reason motor 4’s ESC is either bad or something. Cant find a solution or a way to troubleshoot anywhere. #4 motor on Betaflight appears to be putting an output out on the motors tab.
How do you arm and disarm it with the controller?
Easier way to tin wires: Put flux on the wire, and add a tad of solder to the iron, then touch the solder ball on the iron to the wire. The flux will cause it to instantly suck the solder into the wire end. No need for three hands.

Yes, you need a receiver for your quad too. The antenna thing is the video transmitter that sends the video signal from the camera to your goggles. The receiver he is mentioning is for the radio transmitter for example the FS-i6 or the X-lite. If you could tell me what radio you have I can help you out on what receiver you have to order. If you have any more questions I am here to ask!
Yes, a random transmitter and a random receiver. Just to be clear the thing with the antenna isn’t the receiver for the radio it is a video transmitter
every drone is very stable in the air as long as you are using acro mode
did you already set up betaflight?
Maybe you should try removing the bell of the motor to look if there is something inside keeping it from spinning. Happens a lot with cheap motors…
You just need a battery strap or a gopro holder to record your flights via gopro
The standart is about 1300mAh.
the 3-bladed ones. Especially for 2019 2-blade props are pretty much outdated.
The wizzard x200 or x220s are still a pretty good deal. They cost around 100$ without transmitter or goggles even though there is a rtf kit for about 250$.

+qEGli yeah but im still a newbie I mean I just fly it on horizon and angle mode I need to practice waay more to manage acro mode haha thats why I needed those props hahah im pretty sure there are some crashes to come
+JONBOYLEMON I would definitely upgrade on the escs. There are many good ESCs that are almost as cheap as this one. One Tipp. If you want to upgrade keep your hands away from 4in1 Speedix ESC they have the same performance as yours just tow times more expensive
