LEARNING TO FLY FPV? (ME TOO) USEFUL TOOLS – PT. 1
If you’re just learning to fly FPV like myself, you might find a few useful tools in this video. However, this video, nor any other, will teach you to fly FPV… you must practice, practice, practice AND practice some more!!! I made this video to start a forum for beginner FPV pilots and hopefully pickup some tips, tricks & shortcuts from some of you more experienced FPV pilots that are out there. Please leave your FPV “learning experiences” or tips in the comments below and share with the group. Thanks – djsoulforce

“I LOVE FLYING WITH YOU GUYS!!!” – djsoulforce
A SOUL FORCE PRODUCTION
JUN 2015
Hey, you’re doing great. I used my Syma X5C-1 (and still have it set up with a TX03) but used a power ‘splitter’ cable that allowed me to use my main flight battery (1S 730mah) to power both the quad and the VTX. Using a bird you’re well used to can build confidence, even if its only psychological in nature. Can’t emphasize enough about sitting down while flying. If you’ve ever watched any of the Drone Racing League (DRL) online races, you’ll see that even some of the “Pros” (advanced flyers) sit while flying. The immersive experience of the goggles fools your brain in many ways, which is why you felt yourself leaning and your head pointed in one direction. Flying in a familiar place that you know well helps as well. You’re lucky to have a nice big wide open neighborhood to fly in .. I’ve got trees everywhere here, and they are “quad gobblers”. So, I go down to the local school yard at the end of the street, and sit on the football field bench and fly up/down the field, taking turns going over/under the goal posts and around them. That park you fly at would be ideal, as it has a picnic table you can sit at, and you are very familiar with the surroundings. Take y our X5 out there, and fly around, making passes through the pavilion. When you are ready to try the Baby Hawk (brushless), keep in in ANGLE (stabilized) mode until you feel confident. Then move to Horizon (sometimes called Ratitude) mode and get the feeling of how it looks when you do flips and rolls. Horizon mode is still stabilized, so you can’t get into too much trouble. You can also tweak the PIDs in Betaflight, (the software on the flight control board) to make it super “tame”, even in Horizon mode. I recently posted a short 3 1/2 min. vid to my YT channel where I was flying a QX90 micro fpv racer around my back yard, under the apple trees, and even “shot the gap” between my garage and fence (about 18 inches wide). I’m no “Charpu”, but FPV flying is Fun and a new challenge, and I’m always up for a new challenge. Looking forward to your future exploits. You can strap that TX03 onto anything and use the flight battery. On your bigger quads, tap off the balance plug so you’re only getting 1 CELL (4.2v) to the VTX. Most of those AIO (all in one) VTX/TX systems have a Max voltage of 5.5 vdc. Cheers!
EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention, which may apply to some (or many) of your subscribers. Many of us must wear “corrective lenses” (glasses). Most of the FPV goggles, like your Eachine ones, and Fat Sharks (etc.) do NOT allow the wearing of glasses .. glasses won’t fit inside the face/eye opening. This kept me from FPV for some time, until I got my Quanum Pro V2 “head box” goggles. The opening for your face/eyes is big enough to wear your glasses. For those who wear “Multi-diopter” glasses (glasses which allow for distance and reading, sometimes called “progressive lenses”), you can have a cheap pair of glasses made up at online stores like Zenni Optical (less than $20). I got a set which includes my astigmatism prescription, and set the diopter to something in between my distance and reading prescription. This allows my eyes to focus on the little screen inside the goggles, which is about 4-5 inches away from your eyes. There are many of this style head gear out there now. Adult glasses are usually about 13-14cm wide, and 5-6 cm high, so check the specs on the opening to see if your glasses will fit. I watched reviews of some of the goggles, and then asked the reviewer in the questions to measure the opening for me .. thus I found a “head box” which fit my glasses situation.
I am building my 1st FPV whoop right now over this week.
I am on a budget, so like you I am starting with a tablet instead of goggles..
another great video, I am watching them all now!
they are on tomtop now I ordered one thankyou .
Now you’re scaring me! My new DJI goggles are arriving this week! I only have ONE drone. My P3P. I do not want to crash it!
The X5 lives on! I didnt think I would see that in another youtube video. I’m pretty sure that is the most steady X5 footage ever captured in history.
I’m trying to learn too! I bought the 5.8ghz gold receiver also and putting my smart phone in a cheap pair of googles to fly my Hubsan h501s advanced outside. The only thing is the FPV doesnt have very good range outside compared to what the Hubsan will do. Still fun tho!
Cool idea. I’m starting to get interested in Fpv. I’m laughing watching you fly that thing indoors with them goggles on bro. I look forward to see where your fpv videos go from here. The 501 footage was cool.
Very cool.
Get a cheap RC truck and hot glue the camera on it to get used to control thru viewing in headset. It makes an easy transition to flying. Second. Move the camera on the X5C to the front. I am using a X5 too and have the same camera hot glued to the front. Heres my day 2 of flying.
I think you did a great job! It’s like learning how to “Fly” for the first time all over again! That looked like one of your first videos LOL! Before you know it you’ll be zooming around like a you do now without FPV! Thanks for sharing!
Do you know a reciever like the Gold Model, but connects via WLAN to the phone?
I love you! Min nya video om dig )
Good luck with the FPV flying, your doing well in the house.

I learned a lot from Fpv Freerider simulator when your ready to tackle acro and air mode. Then forget angle mode.
Man i soo tired of DJI stuffs(including my boring Mavic Pro). So i got the Wizard x220..Man is hard to fly in LOS or FPV LOL..This is my 5th week…I broke like 20 set of props ready… You will get better as it goes. Practice and practice
