We’ve tested different types of quadcopters before, but have never flown them like this! Norm tags along a meetup of local FPV quadcopter racers–people who build and race mini quads by flying them with first-person video cameras. We learn about how FPV quadcopters work, why they’re so much fun to spectate, and witness some unbelievable stunts!

This is really cool…. but I still prefer helicopter flying…. not as
much of a sense of accomplishment when you fly quads.
04:07 What is freguency 1.9? is that new?
Deutsche Facebookgruppe zum Thema Racing:
I feel like I am missing out so hard on this stuff. I am planning to build
one soon though, and can’t wait!!!
WHERE do you get this FPV stuff? I look at Fat Shark webpage and it looks
like it is vor people who have been doing this for the past ten years.
FPV quadcopter and how this is a truly effective means to achieve
out-of-body experiences.
2:47 I heard a crash and an “Aw”
This is amazing!
Does anyone know if there’s anything going where people can stream their
live flying onto a host site? Like maybe from the quad, back to the area
they are watching and maybe using a mobile network to stream it live?
I need to practice development skills so I might try and create one if one
doesn’t exist
My next wishlist toy… I start saving for this right now :)
Sembra di essere a bordo! #drone #race #Liveview
i could get into this
Now this is racing star-wars style
Great interview and explanations of the tech involved in our hobby!
That’s crazy! So impossibly cool.
Their is a dji inspire one in the background
what is a good fpv racing drone that i could get?? price range around
400??? i need help.
Google: “Complete 250 Mini Quad Parts List – FPV Quadcopter Component
Choice”. Posted by a guy called Oscar
These things are like the difference between cars vs motorcycles. Quads are
so much easier to control. Wanna be a real flier, fly a normal helicopter
RC with 1 blade on top and one on the back and try to fly this even.
+Raptorduder Do you fly anything FPV? I think you’ll find it is quite
different compared to LOS helis.
+surf1punk I realize quads are quite different. But when it comes to the
skill and flight ability it is alot more easier to move and turn with a
quad then a 2bladed heli as 2blade helis don’t have a stabilizing system
that the quads do when you let go of the controls. So a 2bladed heli will
not just return to a normal hover and sit there. They’ll continue going the
way you let go till you force it to hover.
My point is that it’s easier to pick up a quad and fly then a normal heli,
There isn’t much skill in it then a normal heli that you gotta keep on your
toes more. So if they think flying around small buildings with a quad is
hard, Try doing it with a dual bladed heli.
oh man! 0:52 – 1:00
Not trying to be an smart a55 but why not title the video “people talking
about quadcopter racing”? After all it was mostly talking.
Awesome!
has anyone heard of the storm 250mm racing drone?
great job u guys perfect video . that guy is apro. 2 bad u didnt show step
by step how he build the qwad. hope ull load another video soon . thank u)
im guessing it’s a long walk when fetching a crashed quadcopter. maybe a
bigger quadcopter with some sort of claw attachment can get them. faster
turn around time. more flying time.
Makes me think of pod racing when they fly around that building.
I would have to get a couple laser pointers and put them on the widest
points of the copter so I have a better idea of the width of the copter.
Wouldn’t add much weight and may make things break less often well it seems
it.
Avoid some crashes at least, see a dot on the wall you know you will hit it
if you keep flying the way you are flying.
Can I be “that” guy and ask how many of you fpv racers have ham radio certs
for using the video transmitters at the power levels they output?
(curiosity, not trying to condemn anyone or anything at all)
Como se le nota el acento Español jaja.
Richard turned me on to this. This is awesome! Looks like so much fun,
but it looks like you definitely need a spare prop budget.
This video single handedly made this an obsession of mine! I get my goggles
today and will be flying my 250 quad in first person shortly!
Lol! Nope! I will bring it if you’d like to see it.
+Sean Carroll if you hear a humming noise outside your window tonight think
nothing of it. Lmfao!
Maybe better not +Brian West, don’t want it sitting in your car and get
swiped…
+Sean Carroll good point!
What’s that noise??
How many minutes are you/they able to keep their drones up in the air? –
and what formula do you use to calculate the airtime ?
Thank you
they should attach air soft guns on the quadcopter and have a mini dog
fights
This is pretty cool.
This is so cool! Thanks! Where was this place with all these abandoned
buildings?
Just got into this recently and it’s amazing. More than a hobby for me. It’s my newfound passion! Ordered a new quad just a few minutes ago…
Guys if u cant build your own quadcopter or you just wanna fly without any work check this quadcopter
its sold already built, I have flown with it today first time, Its just great! With this price, anything can beat it.
This her son from philippines sir if i build like that drone i can cost to much money right
Cancyou give the name of the parts of FPV sir plsss?
fuck flying like superman, i want one of those!
Hi! I got 200$ and I want to buy racing fpv , can you give me suggestion or if you have Instagram I would contact you there please .
icyburger me too, how do we get into this
Will Dominguez how much
look up flight test Ft 210 build and they will show you in detail how to build it also where to buy all the tools required. It will end up costing quite a bit btw.
In August 2015′ the racing in the deserted factory appear on 7 News, in Aussie….first time I had seen or even heard about quad flying
I now have a Phantom 3 Pro and eight quad frames 500,450, 260 and the Tarot 650 Ironman….. and a lot less in my bank account !
icyburger…..and any other thinking about getting involved….. it’s not the just the frame, motors. ESCs, flight controller, add in a transmitter, receivers, and whatever that costs, double it for all the batteries, chargers. Various meters , a bunch of none standard screwdrivers, soldering irons, a truck load of heat shrink I. Multitude sizes, electrical ties or insulating tape…..and a lot of stuff that you will ruin one way or another when starting out!
Who cares, it will all be worth it when you’re done.
+icyburger good comment
Does anyone know where they are? I’m trying to go there with mine!
Why not swap out the go pro for a 360• camera. That way you can use it to keep an eye on the other racers
The GoPro isn’t for the FPV. There’s 2 cameras on there. One for FPV that transmits to the goggles and the GoPro is just so you can watch the footage later or whatever. Pretty sure they don’t make 360 radio transmitted cameras yet…
yet.
Patrick Anderson The building certainly looks like an old Real Road round house. If that’s true try checking some old maps for rail lines and service areas. From here in Maryland it’s amazing how much and how many derelict areas you seem to have in your area. Good luck
J Vili that’s the number of battery cells. Consider it as the amount of energy your battery can deliver at a time. Batteries have two important characteristics:
– Voltage – Determined by the number of cells in series. 3s means 3 cells in series. Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7V, making a 3s battery a 11.1V one. 4s will have 14.8V, making your quad much, much more powerful.
– Capacity – rated in mAh, determines for how long you can fly.
Please try watching videos online. Im sorry to say but, you’ll be crashing A LOT. That will cause damages, which need repairs. You must be able to do those repairs yourself. That’s the joy of this hobby, not just flying, but fixing and pimpin’ your quad. Please check out the RCModelReviews, FliteTest and RotorRiot YouTube channels, they contain educational videos on the hobby.
Nubian Emporer Quads have a big price range.
This is awesome!!
hey man , i got my fpv wizzard, with skyfly i6 and i dont know how to make it fly its crazy . would u help me ? all wires are pluged
Guy If u like these, youtube people doing flips with these. These guys did none in here I was suprised.
+J Vili find me on Facebook with this name and profile pic.
Dren Imeraj I don’t have a Facebook but I have Instagram. Do you have Instagram ?
J Vili yes, drenimeraj
Where is Mr. Steele?? It’s great that you got one(1) of the best for this demo.
Great interview
just started fpv
lots of crashing but I absolutely love it!
360 fpv would be impractical in races
BitDevUE4 that’s awesome!

Who could dislike this?!
How far this goes?? and which control do you use for control it
hlo bro i really enjoyed you are video but i need to buy that fat shark
I see that Goal Zero Yeti 6:00
Oh my how far this sport has come
I know nothing about quads but I really enjoy watching Carlos, his interest and knowledge is great 🙂
If the goggles could be mass produced cheap enough to pass out among each of the spectators at racing / freestyle events and came with controls so they could change instantly to FPV the quad of their interest in real time during the race the sport would SKYROCKET. Adding a spectator FPV drone like a Mavic Pro (or two) to provide an instant all inclusive overhead view of the track outside and one viewing the track indoors indoors (warehouse racing) would also sweeten it a bit. IMHO
If anyone needs any racing drone help comment below!
Man… That looks cool!
The title should instead be: “Standing and talking about quadcopter POV racing for 12 minutes”
for some reason I was thinking how you could integrate drones and playing drone quidditch.
