How do the cheap Chinese 250-sized mini quadcopter frames compare to the Blackout Mini H and QAV 250 frames?
I’ve had a lot of emails from people who’ve said that I really should review these cheap carbon frames and see for myself if they’re any good so I browsed eBay and bought three frames for a total of less than US$100.
They were listed as:
Mini H Quad Frame micro 220mm FPV Carbon fiber Quadcopter
Carbon Fiber 250mm Mini FPV Quadcopter Frame Kit/4 axis
QAV250 C250 Carbon Fiber Mini 250 FPV Quadcopter Frame
All of these frames were actually identical to the one in this review — despite the different descriptions and claimed sizes. None of them were really QAV250 frames, nor were they Blackout Mini H frames.
The eBay vendors I used were:
fisher-hobby (good, fast with tracking number)
sunshine5688 (okay, tracking number provided)
hobbyhack88 (slow, no tracking number and most expensive)
So far, these frames seem to be reasonably good. The true test will be how well they fly – so stay tuned for part 2.
Bottom line so far: would I swap my Blackout or QAV for five of these Chinese frames? Hell no.. but if this was all I could afford, and if they fly half well, I’d probably buy one.
Someone who can list the used components?
fc Naze32 Acro?
motors rctimer 2300kv?
ESC?
I just got mine for $16 mine on amazon lol I’m broke and trying to get into
the hobby. I’ll buy name brand to when its time to replace my cheap china
hardware
You can get a full kit on ali express for under $100 includes frame ESC

How to deliver …..?
Hi, where is part 2 ? i could not find it, has it another name ?
The frame of the Chinese is not real carbon it’s a carbonglass-plastic mix
How much flight time do you get with a 250 quad?
+Come Aun i get exactly 11 minutes with a 2200mah 3s when flying in and out
of trees and fast around a big field
Depends on what battery you choose.
how much can be build your own Drone? like the video one….
I get that the cheap one won’t be as nice as a higher priced unit, but this
review seems overly critical like you are being paid by the company that
makes the higher end one.
I get it. Still informative video’s though. Tempted to see how cheap you
could build one. I have a few grand in a larger build, it would be
interesting to do the opposite.
+1 Patrtrick Kirwwan: The choice is real simple for me (1)There cheaper and
not as strong but good enough (2) Is the Blackout worth the extra cash (IMO
the answer is NO)? These less expensive quads work just fine and are
something people will ALWAYS want and need. Of coarse those who have spent
the extra $ for the Blackout will always disagree… that will never
change.
I want a low cost fpv drone. (400 dollars)
What is the best ?
I have one
Get a cheap hubsan x4 first, to learn
hi i want you help, i have qav 250mm is work good but when you put thr. to
fast the qav 250 turns left ail . you have n idea What’s going on. let me
know tk.
I like your thoughts of supporting the innovators.
Thanks for the video!
Is it possible to make the frame
So they’re actually made of carbon fiber, even though the frame is
different?
I would buy a chinies 250 any day over a blackout WAY over priced. Yet i
do have a tricked out 250 thats much nicer then blackouts. all my parts are
orederd from china. WHY because if i buy from the america in the end it
still comes from china
Tks man!
the xt60 plug on the power lead was touching the table when you weighed the
generic model.. can you post an actual weight please?
hello i have QAV250 and i use 6×3 propellers and work fine, now i put some
propellers 6×4.5 and the QAV is not stable, anywone now what is the problem
i use emax 2204-2300kv motors and CC3D controller thanks
use motor mount extensions.
thanks
Have to retune it mate. get tuning those PIDS
can you make a “crap motor’s is” is list of good and bad maybe
I really would like to see how to build some one like those with Rasperry
Pi 2 !!!
How much money did you end you end up spending
I picked up one of these knock offs from a friend who could not get it
flying. it came with Mystery 1800kv motors. Most people seem to be running
2300+ on these. On 3S it will barely lift off at 3/4 throttle. is 1800
enough or does this thing have a dud motor?
+Evol Villain RC At 1800kv you are probably better served running 4s if
your ESC’s can take the load, or change the props to a heavier pitch and a
larger blade length and surface…. If you intend on using 3s I would
change out your motor setup to something over 2000kv, most use 2250kv or
2300kv for 3s. 12 amp ESC’s are popular, but if you want close to bullet
proof, go with a 20 am setup.

Great review video and explanation of each component. Thank you!
Good stuff!
Looks more like glass fibre made to look like carbon
You buy it because the Lumineer is $150 for a frame
Can this carry a gopro with no problem ???
+theturtle _ I’m not sure I’d say “problem”, but it’s not too quick with a
second camera…it will work and cruise, but you wouldn’t want to race with
it. The stock tri-blade props on this model are strictly trainers, nice
stiff dual blades make a huge difference.
Do you have to have a power distribution board ?
am going to buy a totem q250 frame and im going to put some 2300 kv motors
with 12 a esc using a kk 2.1 also with a 3s 1300 mAh lipo battery is this
setup going to work if any one can please respond
My wife would kill me if I pay the 2 or 3 hundred dollars for the Blackout
frame.
Thank you very much for posting this. I bought one of these and was trying
to figure out how best to assemble it. The wire routing was particularly
troublesome as there just isn’t any space on this frame. I paused at 7:58
and gained much inspiration :)
