In today’s video I’ll show you how to create fast-looking drone shots, perfect for vehicle photography to showcase speed in your photos. This could be done with pretty much any drone which you can install ND filters on, I just chose to do it with my Mavic 2 Pro as it has more speed while flying backwards. I hope you enjoy the video, don’t hesitate to ask if you have any questions!

Can we use Active Track for this purpose?
I’ve done some rolling shots from within a different vehicle but for the drone I’d recommend using shutter priority mode so that it will adjust your exposure accordingly, shoot in raw so even if it seems overexposed you can dial it down in post, and also use the object tracking feature so that it will help keep your subject centered. If you don’t want the subject centered then it might also be helpful to lock your heading so it will be easier to fly forward while the camera is facing back or at a different angle.
Can this be done on the spark?
In photography this is called “Panning”. We used to do it in DSLR and Mirrorless but I did not try it in my mavic 2 pro yet. Looking forward to try :). THanks for the great content.
I love doing these shoots, I’ve done it out car windows, on the side of roads, sweep following the car, it’s a fantastic technique, something that can get you awesome results with the drone, but like you said, it’s trial and error and tonnes and tonnes of photos. Challenge : try it with another drone ?
Thanks for sharing!! Now off to find a big open space! Question.. does it have to be 40km/hr or can we make it slower?? Will it take away the motion blur??
Aloha!!! Good job Mike. Thanks for tips how to do it… every time I watched your videos, i learn something. Thank you for sharing. God bless.
Well done Mike, another step in a new direction…
Another great video and technique Mike…!!! I have seen many similar photos in Car magazines over the years and I know a lot of those are accomplished with a Rail Cam setup or a cable dolly. I was thinking that I could try this on my Quad using my Inspire 1 With a Litchi Rail cam mission. Once I had the mission programmed and could repeat it exactly I would only have to practice my speed and location in relation to the Drone…? What do you think…? Thank you for the link I will check it out….!! Keep up the great work man…!!
Nice tips! Thanks! The best photos that were in focus turned out really great. I would like to try this… 🙂
Very interesting video, thanks so much
Can this be done with the Mavic Mini?
Great shots, and 4 out of 100 and some, it’s not bad. I like shooting jet fighters in flight and usually I do about 4000 SLR shots to keep about 15………
make sure your drone to phone spying is in synch
It’s quite difficult. Still waiting for my first good long exposure photo.
Basically the same as panning with a DSLR. It can be challenging with a DSLR, I can imagine how difficult it would be with a drone. Thanks for the idea. Never occurred to me to do this with the drone.
Thanks dude. I wonder if flying a good drone with POI lock on would help?
