Toy grades are awesome. I have lots of fun modding them. My favorite is the JJRC H8. So many mods. open source software. brilliant apps flashing. with STlink usb debugger. I just keep going back to my first toy grade.
yes these reviews are always great in fact the 686g from WLToys is what jump-started me back into the hobby.
I have had good luck with WLtoys products but I don’t use toy grade very much,I do have a few of my first quads and fly one sometimes. I am learning FPV but I have gone brushless on everything pretty much. Great review and a very nice quad it just dosen’t fit my style anymore. Relaxing flyer CHEERS
I’ve seen this one before, but wanted to see you take on it. That “low battery” problem with the monitor seems to be somewhat common with WLToys monitors .. I’ve seen that on several of their FPV quad which use that monitor. As you mentioned, the video was pretty jello-y … Might do with a good prop balancing and perhaps some washers to take up the slop in the prop mount. I’m still not a fan of manufacturers putting proprietary batteries in toy grade quads … just a gimmick to improve their bottom line. Last time I checked, there weren’t any ‘spare batteries’ available, so it might be a while before they show up for sale. Anyway, glad you got a chance to revisit an old friend in the WLToys hangar. Cheers.
All I ever buy are toys. I like this one on the reviews to date especially the flight time.
Allegedly there’s a version with a gimballed camera :O
Can I connect my Goggles to it?
hi andyrc, Im enjoying all these reviews, I was wondering if your planning to review the diatone tyrant 215 s? I’ve just purchased the frame and currently waiting for parts to built it. keep up the good vids.
I really like that you review toy grade as well. I like all your videos. You are my favorite channel I fly all types of multi rotors and I love them all. Thanks for all the content.
Pity about the jello as the picture quality seam decent.
I have a very similar monitor for my JJRC H8D with the same problem: it doesn’t seem to ever fully charge, although it does sort of charge a little because I’ve been using it in short sessions for a while. I initially thought the cheap USB charger was at fault, but I have the same problem with a wall charger with the same coaxial plug. Too bad because I’d like to use it to share what I see in my goggles with my friends.
Andy can you remove the props? If you balanced them I think you could get a very decent video out of it, IT EVEN HAS PITCH CONTROLLED CAMERA! haha
Great review as usual.
The Q696-A actually comes with a 2 axis gimbal. It’s the same quad but it’s white.
I opened up the monitor and removed the battery from my V666 monitor, running the battery wires external to a connector and a GOOD battery. 😉
My V666 lives on with a F3 Evo board set to 2s. Zero problems with this mod, and conceivably applicable to any of the following 2s V666 derivatives, of which there are quite a few.
As always a rocking insta-like video, Andy! Rock on man!
Prop looseness – fit a couple appropriately sized rubber o-rings on the shaft, under the props. A cheap fix and can help absorb a small amount of prop vibration.
What did the telemetri in the tx said about your hight and range when you got this drop out… and how fast did it fly for you? it tells you that stuff. You never really said it… 🙂
yo
There are other reviews out there where flight time is substantially shorter. Is this your first flight with this drone?
