fyi…the Philppines was a US territory after the US won the Spanish American war of 1898. We gave them their independence on 4 July 1946.
To all pinoys/pinays please watch this video and you will know your history.
Life is short and life is what you make it. So, live life to the fullest and enjoy the journey wherever you are, be you are in the Philippines or in the USA.
One tenth of the Philippine GDP derives from our Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) meaning, we export human services. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned among the lists of Ph exports. Great video by the way.
Clarification: The US took over the Philippines by paying for the islands in the TReaty of Paris as an outcome of the Spanish-American War at the end of the 1800s. Before the US takeover the Philippines was already on the verge of winning their revolution against Spain but the US thru Commodore Dewey deceived the Filipino revolutionaries into believing the US would support their war against Spain and then allow the Philippines to establish its own government; instead the US reneged on its commitment and thus broke out the Philippine-American War which caused thousands of civilian deaths among Filipinos due in part to brutal American suppressive methods , much like they did to native American tribes. The Philippines was an American colony during WWII and the American military was in control and thus responsibility for the defense of the American territory in the Philippines. So, the liberation of the Philippines was not a debt owed by Filipinos to America but an American duty because American got the Philippines into the war and it’s like Americans liberating Texas or Florida. America occupied the Philippines from 1898 to 1946 and after the WWII devastation the US poured millions to rebuild Japan but imposed US parity rights on the Philippine government which allowed Americans to continue exploiting Philippine resources such as mining, forestry products, etc.. Much of the corruption in the Philippines is copied from American practices in the Philippines and the main reason for poverty in the Philippines was due to the US policy of preserving the oligarchic socio-economic/political structures and feudal land ownership which ;left the PHilippines in the control of oligarchic families and politicians, as opposed to what the US did in Japan where the US overhauled the socio-economic/poilitical and landholding structures resulting in a more democratized Japanese society. Please research Filipino participation and support of the US during WWII to appreciate heroic sacrifices made by Filipinos in fighting side by side with America. Read “Under the REd SUn” by Forbes Monaghan. Good luck in your journey towards historic erudition.

I have talked to several filipinas living here in the united states.. most tell me after they got here to the united states & lived here for a while.. they start to miss living in the philippines.. and at some point want to move back home to the philippines with there american husband after he retires… I’m not married.. but I very much plan to live in the philippines when I retire !!! 🙂
I think the Philippines are the template the Republicans and Democrats want to change the United States into!
Very nice episode, interesting facts and very fun interview about where to live. We agree cities are too crowded in general, anywhere close to nature would work, in an ideal situation 🙂
