What the 2021 European Drone Legislation is all about? And what does it mean for FPV drones? Drone Racing? Long range? Commercial FPV pilots!?
Thanks a lot to HaliticFPV for helping me out in explaining the rules and having a conversation about the EU drone laws! Check him out on:

So… What are your thoughts on the new European regulations? And which ones should we cover next?
I live in asia .but i really appreaciate european drone laws & your ‘s his explanation.😊☺
well done Lexie! keep it up.
I live in Greece and remote Id is being around for about 3 years but none cares about it😅
Super helpful video! Any chances to give us a link for the insurance company and maybe the drone school for the a2. Located in Germany auch😊
Where can you do your a1/a3 certificate?
if you follow the rules, it is impossible to do fpv. I don’t have a guy to fly with me every time I go to fly … 250g is arbitrary. and make no sense. for me as long as what you do is secure, that is enough, (and the little test on the internet in France ..) the only thing that is good about this new regulation is that you don’t have to be professional to sell these images / videos. I can make documentaries without having to pass the training at 3000 € .. only the legal authorizations to be able to fly in the cases where we cannot when we are in “hobby” version .. in any case this law has been made by people in their office asking DJI how to make a law .. that pathetic.
yeah well flying 250 grams “long range” isn’t really something anyone should worry about since only the no-brainers would do that 😛
I believe on some aspects it is a good thing and the online A1/A3 course it is not a total crap – it is not written by someone who never flew a drone. But I got somewhat amused with firstly all this talk about requiring a spotter and VLOS and just a few lines later about GPS and “Return Home Altitude”. I believe it would be fair to say, you can fly long range if your quad has certain safety features on – of course following the regulations/limitations of you category/subcategory.
Awww not really into Instagram ?!? Argh!!!!
Here’s a fun fact just recently discovered… Aside from the i.d. thingy I just learned(thanks guys) in the USA you need a “blinker” now. Sorry forgot the terminology.
Oh yeah! Click or touch that thumbs up symbol people! 💜 Yeah it’s only purple/violet because am too lazy to look for the red one(or any other color not judgy about favorites hehehe)
Lexi is such a gracious hostess! I’ve been away a while but very glad I caught this episode. Always fun. Always informative!!!
Thanks, great information,. (like license is free for now, and can be used anywhere in EU)
Under new European rules how would a free flight model be treated if it was to fly beyond line-of-sight?
example: thinking of a hand thrown sailplane that catches lift and flys off. (obviously not FPV, and not RC)
Assume would be a “standard senecio”, or would free flight model even be considered a drone?
Hello Lexie! I have not visited your YouTube channel for a very long time and now you have surprised me again! Now you have teamed up with the european drone pilots! May I ask where do you meet people? For example, where did you meet Joshua Bardwell? Thank you in advance! I am still following you! In my opinion you are currently the very best drone pilot in Europe! Cool!
great video! congratulations! 🙂
where can we find the link for the eu A1 and A3 exams? and what would be the official source to find this info? 🙂
Thanks
So when we can vacation in Europe Sub 250g and 815mhz good to go? no 5 inchers? AMA insurance count? I don’t see much compliance a lot of fuss for toy plane and helicopters.
Great information, thank you!
Wow, can’t believe I wasn’t subscribed to my flying queen!!!
Sweet
Actually, if you fly FPV you are carrying a camera so you need both licenses to fly it!
Most funny thing in my opinion is that the whole “250 gram ” bs is no longer valid because you have to have a EU license anyway if you have a camera on board…. so we can build and fly 850 gram bashers all day once you have done the exam. Only drones where no license is needed are the cheap skeet toy grades without any cameras
Yey, I got A1/A3 today
Nice Video 👍🏻
One question: is there a Link to the remote ID GitHub?
Hej @MaiOnHigh Jestem w trakcie robienia licencji NSTS-05 więc mam te przepisy jeszcze w głowie.
I’m Portuguese living in Germany and last year I’ve also done the Kopter-profi exam. My German is (still) far com good and I cannot tell you how many hours I’ve spent learning all the specific German expressions to be able to do the exam! 🙂 For people like me it would be great to have English solution for those exams… hehe
According to the CAA
Images captured by a camera and displayed on a flat screen afford the pilot little by way of depth perception and no peripheral vision. This can make it difficult for the pilot to accurately judge speed and distance and to maintain sufficient awareness of the area surrounding the aircraft to effectively ‘see and avoid’ obstacles and other aircraft – as a result, the use of FPV equipment is not an acceptable mitigation for Beyond Visual Line of Sight flight unless the relevant operator has received a specific authorisation to do so from the CAA.
This statement alone disqualifies them from dictating to me how I fly.
The enforcement of spotter requirement alone would kill the FPV hobby. Luckily the police normally have better things to do than arrest people for playing with toys.
Goal is to make it safe ok then leave it alone its safer than almost any other hobby in the world.
The real goal is to stop people flying remote camera drones at ranges that could undermine the secrecy of governments nefarious activities.
Visual line of sight and spotter has always been a thing in the uk let’s be honest most have been ignoring these rules since day one long range has always been illegal in the uk and we have quite a few long range pilots they are still flying and posting videos
Great video just wanted to say hi
