Awesome video! Does the Drift have any bad habits?
Good instruction on flying in wind, Thanks Andrew.
I just got one question: What was the word you said at 3:24? It sounded like BEEEEP! 😄
As a novice pilot, I didn’t have as good of a day the other day when the winds were up. I knew better but I wanted to get it up with the newly installed Matek 411-Wing board installed. Repairs have been made and I’m ready to hit the field again for another try. What are your thoughts on adding a flaperon function to this fun flyer? Particularly for landing in more restrictive space as it can glide for days off of the ground effect.
Nice one Andrew! I like seeing planes that can handle some wind 😉 See you in the Air!
*Hello*
Please have a question
What electric motors do you use?
Is it possible to increase the range of flight to several kilometers?
Nahhh, Just Make More Box Planes!LOL Thanks Mate
That winter flying really looks harsh. In Canada I put skis on my plane with two feet of snow on the field and fly at -20 c.
I love windy drifting, it’s so entertaining.
Glad I stayed to the end cockies.
Your Winter looks better than our Summer…lol.
Yesterday I went thermal soaring at 1200 feet with the Phoenix 2000…had a great time TBH.
Thanks for first rate and very useful content as always! But don’t worry about so-called ‘downwind stalls’, that is a very widespread misconception in the RC community. The plane’s reference point is not the ground, but the mass of air that it flies in, and that will not change character at all in a turn. The plane does not care about the ground and has no idea whether it’s going up- or downwind. Stall is related only to angle of attack, which is determined by elevator input, period. Trust me, it’s pure physics. So what might make models stall going downwind, is the fact that the pilot perceives them to go faster – as his reference point is the ground – and unconsciously slows them down in relation to this false reference point. As long as we don’t adjust the elevator, wind direction will never stall us. That said, turbulence can always stall us. But that is nothing to do with horizontal wind direction, it’s a result of changing vertical components in oncoming air. You won’t stall over the road so long as you leave the elevator alone. And the Kopilot will not make that mistake, it doesn’t have the massive mental capacity required to be misled by a false reference point the way even the best RC pilots are from time to time.
Nice little plane.
I still have mixed feelings about the drift. It flies fantastic. After my final tune with inav it is soooo stable and smooth. But for my flying I just don’t know what to do with it 😀
I’m not a glider guy xD I wanna go high, fast and far away 😀
Haven’t done much flying here lately, around 8c with a bit of wind today,
that looks like an agile little plane, good for your coastal gliding?
I’m not keen on those self leveling I reckon they make it too hard to turn the models around, making it easier to blow away!
With the sale I got a new x8 skysurfer for au$50 delivered from Oz w/house! wohoo! can never have too many of those!
my x9 I fitted an edf to, well.. it crashed and caught fire…nothing left except the aluminium of the motor 🙁 was supposedly drawing 23 amps on a 30amp chinese esc, apparently it was only a 20amp? im guessing, cost me the x9, oh well…
great vid as always, come on the warmer weather!
I’ve got the dart 250g and with the kopilot it’s fantastic.
Love you videos Andrew. Keep up the good stuff!
Just in case you are interested in a more solid way to mount your mobius/runcam etc. on the Drift, I designed a 3D printed mount, also mounts it on top of the CG, see
Cool I’ve got to get one ☝️
I get ya point BUT may I see the last flight in Normal speed.
Cheers.
