Hey man, love you channel. Glad I found it. I have been thinking a lot about that “world record” quad. Sounds like you can get pretty damn close. But theirs ran on 10S. You should contact Guinness and see if you can get a record for a 6S quad. There is also a record for the fastest ascent. That one looks like it can be beat easily. But you should really look into it. I dont have a speed gun, but I would love to try to build a high speed quad like this.
i used gemfan flash 5152 on 2207/2650kv i think i would done better without a heavy gps forrunner 301 and biblade props on 5s ran only 138mph so that extra weight and props may hurt me some

Everytime I hit full throttle on my drone it wants to go up. How does he keep his drone so level while doing speed passes? Does he have a GPS or something?
Awesome, would a super capacitor between the batt and quad help with the sag? Obvious trade off with weight but would be curious to see what the right cap might do. If you have the batt and amperage telemetry around the max draw curves I could run some sims.

Also your Lipo sags very little for staying on full throttle as my new rline 95c 6s packs and any of my high oh 6s builds;f80 2500,avemger 2507 2700,finx40 2610,finx30 2610,rebel v2 limited 2306 2550 and BBB 2407 2600 all day extremely worse while on some liteweigjt frames including merica 5in,ruxus v2 5in,strix awk210,floss v2 and rockstar rk5 as well as others with ak32 4in1,bolt32 skitzo ,aikon 45a and now my 8s build strix with 2507 2450kv info stayed on throttle like you would say down to about what yours does for 2 passes then it would hit 18v and numbers like that that you can hear and feel extreme bogging down and use 5.1×5.0x2 apc and azure 5152×2 dual as well as 5055 hulkie and 5552×3 gemfan and 5152×2 and x3 and Lipo basically did that since the 1st flights and pack has 12 flights or so as well does my 5s 95c rline and and 3 other 6s packs.
Not sure how your getting your pack to hang at about 21v while even staying at full throttle simce if I try to sustain 1s at 100% its already losing speed.
Thinking maybe my 130+mph 6s floss runs with 5552×3 on 2700kv avenger and 2607.5 2600kv zmx took em to the point of no return or when I get em 180f+ at times though they dont puff ?
Though usually they get fairly warm but not burning hot status but will if I try to sustain several secs wide open like you did even when I let it rest between passes.

I also fly these quads everyday on 4s and 5 and 6s like you do so wanna figure out how your not sagging nearly at all or have 25.8v on osd and even if 0.6v high still sustaining a higher voltage under full load than me since I hit 18v with ease if I want or if I dont rather?

Here’s something interesting…If you could fly this thing on planet Mars, at full throttle, it won’t fly any faster than 28MPH. Mars’ atmosphere is very thin by comparison, with pressure ranging from 0.4 – 0.87 kPa – which is equivalent to about 1% of Earth’s at sea level.

That was awesome! I’d be worried about EMF from the power lines but I guess it’s not an issue. APC props rule. Just had a 6×3.5 HQ carbon/nylon biblade snap on me midair during a LOS full throttle speed run. Predictable results ensued.

Why do you do low alt short runs? Go higher, make nice full throttle longer run to let acceleration finish. Do it at start when battery is strongest. Then you will start see the real speed.

Oswalds Reef sure they do! You can build anything with any mix of components. I think in general the power:weight ratio is better in a 5” than a 4” so probably why it’s not very popular

Chris Taylor nothing special. Bolt is 6s compatible. Should say on the specs 4-6s compatible. It’s also probably the most robust 6s esc out there too.
GC Cannonball oh okay hell yea I was just wondering I have a revolt v3 and bolt v2 on a build and considering its 50a I thought it could handle it. But I saw on multiple pages it said it’s not recommended to run straight 6s to it which I thought was really weird Thanks a lot I’ll have to run my vtx differently and give it a try when I order different motors.

What props do you use on this build when flying race and how does it run on 4s/5s? I am looking to build a similar quad using the merica-X frame, but do you think it will be faster with the normal merica frame since its a bit more aerodynamic?
When you convert from 4S to 6S, do you have to retune or can you fly with the same rates? I converted my drone and it flew great on 4S but as soon as I put a 6S battery on it my flight controller fried and the FC is supposed to be rated for 6S. The only reason I could think of was tuning but I’m not sure. Maybe it was a bad flight controller or something! Also it’s the hyperlite holybro F4 FC. Should I try a different FC?

How do you get permission to run a UAV so fast. I understand it is for a world record but the Feds limit their speed to under a hundred. Do you run into legal issues w the Feds? I’m not tryin to be a pain just trying to understand how the rules apply.

Graham Harris will surely vary depending on setup, but when you’re trying to push for top speed, bi blade will most always be faster assuming same pitch and length blade. And camera angle is like 80* LOL

08halit the quads are VERY power hungry and even the smaller ones often draw more then 80A of current when you throttle up. Li Ion Laptop batteries just can’t deliver enough Power. You need Li Po battery’s to power the drones. But you still can use the laptop batteries to recharge you empty battery’s in the field so you can fly longer.( if you buy a charger that supports that)
How durable is the canopy and also protection to camera? I just race and smashing into gate is very common. I use popup soccer goals. I have broken so many cameras.
Jack Truong since I switched from standard carbon top plates, to canopy I have not broken a single camera. I used to break at least one per day of hard race flying or practice
What kind of range do you get on that?
Bryan McMahon depends on what power output setting I use on my radio. If I turn it up all the way, in a good spot without much interference I could probably get 8-10 miles or more but my battery will never last that long

+GC Cannonball great looking quad but what hold me back is the position of the vtx and esc. Both can get very hot and on top of each other. You do not have any issue with these components? In particular in the Australian summer where temp can get up to 45 degree Celsius. I can not see how it can survive.
Jack Truong I have never had or heard of any of the hundreds of other pilots have that issue. These frames were one of the most prominent frames flown at IO world championships in the summer in Indiana and granted it never got to 45 degrees, it was the hottest summer in 20+ years we’ve seen with temps in the high 30s and low 40s all days.

+GC Cannonball it just doesnt look like your moving the right stick at all (up or down) when you throttle up. I would think youd have to push the right stick forward substantially when hammering the throttle to maintain altitude. do you have the sensitivity cranked?
Jason Millner not really, I mean the rate at full stick deflection is about 400 degrees/ second. So much faster than your standard photography drone but not that fast in relative terms to another “racing quad”

Erol Ryant depends on what fpv camera you have. Most will have a “vbat” pin that you solder directly to the + on the 4in1 esc or pdb and that will display the voltage on your feed but it has to be a camera with osd

Jerry Pomeroy definitely moving the right stick for pitch input, but yes if very small amount, mainly because in Acro mode you don’t have to maintain stick input, you just make the first input and then as long as you’re in forward flight the quad will maintain that pitch

Nick ah sorry I thought I mentioned it in the video. Measured out distance via gps. Then had a timing beacon lined up at each “finish” line, and a small transponder on the quad to get the beacon hits

Shawn Dubay yea the 3 blade props will give you more thrust but less speed since they create more drag and less rpm, so for top speed, 2 blade, and for acceleration/ handling 3 blade!

Hey man I’ve been changing up my props a bit on different set ups but the APC props I got are the same ones you have and they’re really soft. Like SUPER flexible. Is that how yours are? I get wobbles at high speeds with them. And that’s in a 4s 2207 2650kv build. I wanted to run them on my new build but I don’t think they’ll last. Any suggestions? Could I be getting a bad batch? It’s really frustrating. I’ve been using dal cyclone 5050’s lately but I really liked the first set of apc props I had. The rest have been junk. My new build is a 6s merica with t motor f80’s 1900kv. I built it for pure top speed runs and I just don’t know what prop to go for. Somebody told me 5046 apc props but that seems like a super low pitch.
They should be super stiff. There are 2 different ones, one is a really stiff and the other is softer so while they are identical in design, it’s a different material, are yours black or grey?

Mathis Lodewijks the Thor motors are 2408 size vs the hypetrain line of 2306/2207 so they will have much more power for pure speed yes. I was using an axii ufl which is very small indeed

That’s pretty dang fast. I like it. Have you tried the three blade props?? They will take your quad from fast to flat out craziness. They put out LOTS of thrust.

Because Motors are rated by ampdraw not voltage:) makes sense if you think how this Motors are made .
Only real Problem is overreving the Motor , so with right choosen Props you can even run 2700kv at 6s

Just tripped over this video by chance based on the title. OMG, this fellow is a young faced clone of Joe Satriani. Voice is different (higher pitch), but face is almost identical. In case you don’t know who Joe Satriani is…think guitar God.
Why do we need to have the majority of the screen dedicated to looking down at your controller? And it would be really cool to watch the drone go blazing by at least a few times to get a better sense of how fast it is. Awesome job on building it and everything. Not trying to be a dick. Just saying.

go for a iflight nazgul 5 quadcopter and a taranis qx7 remote and some used fatshark goggles. i got my fatshark goggles for 90€ on ebay and they are perfect. whatever you do dont buy cheap trash goggles.. because the goggles are the part that make the fun. cheap goggles with bad image quality or low wearing comfort kill the fun of fpv

what does receiver had to do with speed?
I’m really new this coming from flying helis…. when you are making speed passes, I don’t see you pitch forward with your right stick. Do you mix that in with your throttle?

If we’re being real maybe just a few slashes, the quadcopter doesn’t have enough mass to go through you, and the props would shatter pretty quick.

amazing video. trying to build something similar but the electronics and motirs you’re using are discontinued. would 2306 2400-2500kv and a decent 50A esc would do the job/similar speed without blowing up ?

Whoah, whoah whoah. I am a new FPV quad pilot. He is using only throttle to go faster at the same attitude/altitude. What tuning is this? What mode is this? If I did this in angle or horizon I would get dynamic lift and regular lift and I would be 500 feet in the air. I don’t know what acro mode does, but I don’t think it is this. So what magic sorcery is this?
