Isnt is sad that Drew has more makeup on then the women
Matty that points system would also be great for people promoting R.R. Chad this would work with the “place to add peoples Email”
Don’t forget some people who are loyal to different brands will be soldiers for that brand, so if there’s any conflict between the top. It will all run downhill. Even if it doesn’t start at the top, a lot of consumers will always say the product they have is better.
even if they are not supporting a certain brand sometimes it’s just confirmation bias. some people don’t like to be wrong , or told so.
1 thing I will say; last april is when i bought my first radio, it was around the same time that I been in the R.R group. There has a been a huge improvement difference since last year!
Nice cap Matty.
Gotta love youtube, up next in my feed is from the guy with a tattoo on his forehead with the video title: Loose quads and loose women. Sadly he’s the most well know FPV in my area, and I have no interest in flying with him.
Can we get more Zoe on R.R episodes?
Thanks for all the hard work you guys do!!! I would like to volunteer and help. How can I get involved?
Best episode yet. Real topics and candid conversation. Managing an online community is EXTREMELY difficult, but you all touched on the solution. YES, hire a community manager to set the standards and policies. If that has to be Chad, then that’s probably the best place to start. Then hire a LOT more moderators and manage them very closely, reviewing their work. Chad is right. This community is diverse. It’s like a virtual melting pot. I’ve bumped up against it myself, simply making an offhanded remark and I was blasted with hate about being a “tide-pod eating libtard. (I’m a 48-year old business owner, so that made me chuckle.) Once the community is aware of the standards, some self-moderating will happen. Also, it’s hysterical that Matty can relate anything to Bitcoin. ๐
There is a massive double standard here. Treat women differently then men and you will be called sexist. Treat women the same as the men you fly with and you will also be called sexist.
I think a lot of this comes from the idea that men and women are exactly the same and any differences in interest or skill comes from “society” and not from intrinsic differences between the sexes. When it comes down to it men and women are not the same and can’t be expected to have congruent interests and drives. There are mountains of evidence showing that men are more thing focused and women are more people focused, and that is from birth. The net result is going to be a difference in interests, and combine that with a niche hobby all the way over at the extreme of the distribution, and the current demographics make perfect sense. There doesn’t need to be something “keeping women out” to end up with the hobby the way it is.
On top of that, a lot of the women I have tried to introduce to the hobby either explicitly have no interest in learning the skills required to maintain a quad, or get motion sick wearing FPV goggles, or both. I can get my GF to fly, but if she breaks something she will just wait for me to have time to fix it rather than learning how to solder and troubleshoot. That process just does not interest her. To be fair, that also doesn’t interest most men, but when you are already at the extreme end of people in a distribution what may be 1.5:1 near the mean will be 100:1 at the extreme.
So yes, address the douche bags that treat others like crap, maybe that will help a little, but I don’t see the demographics of this hobby changing much no matter how much effort you put into pushing women into it.
Well done peeps. A topic that needed to be put out there. Fpv for life. A hobby for all.
I had no idea of the things Zoe and Lexi had suffered from their participation in this community we call FPV. I guess I was disillusioned to think that female pilots were welcomed and appreciated because they are so rare. Maybe a unicorn metaphor is not the best idea. I love my local FPV community. They are such great guy’s. So helpful and very kind. They are great pilots too. But I don’t think any of us are particularly proud of the fact that we are all guys and mostly white guys. Is no one else interested or is there some shadowy barrier that blocks diversity? My wife is not interested. She says the videos make her nauseated. She will go to meet ups with me. But as a potential pilot, she is out. Anyway. Celebrate diversity.
In regards to pilot popularity; I was impressed with Matty when I saw his flight videos, which still define marks of achievement for FPV pilots to strive for. But after his appearances on Rotor Riot material and podcasts he has shown his personality and vulnerabilities. He is much more approachable than expected.
Great podcast.
I am a dad of 2 little girls. A 12yo step daughter and 1yo daughter. This podcast so far (28min in) has been inspirational for how I want my girls to see the world. Thank you Zoe and thank you Lexie. Keep it up.
Good thing Facebook isnโt going to be around for much longer.
This was another great podcast. …Looking forward to see a new RR pilot ๐
Drew is the gayest mofo I ever seen that flys like a bad ass lol, and has a girl,. How does this happen lol.. WTF
I must say; Drew’s thumbs are really sexy.
RotorRiot store credits could be awarded to meaningful self-policing in the forum, audited and determined by your moderators (a non-realtime workload you can handle). Statistics can be collected and a strike system could be implemented, along with an early warning system that alerts for posts containing offending keywords, instantly spawning a new ticket in a ticket system to be handled “asap” by your infinitely-expanding pool of moderators. Also: Rinse and repeat tighter and tighter until nobody can post any sentence containing both a noun and a verb. Give up entirely. Slowly realize that it’s the Internet, and not a safe space. Parents eventually catch on and start parenting again, or maybe not. Who cares.
This was legit and I’ve always considered Zoe “the queen of FPV” and the boss of 3D and I respect Lexi and how she presents herself classily on top of being a skilled pilot….. BUT is there gonna be a another episode that touches on racial diversity or are we pretending that’s not an issue? When Zoe posted on IG that this episode would be about “diversity” I got excited but then realized it’s that classic case where the “white males club” feels they’re being attacked for lack of diversity so they “align” themselves with white women to “show that they’re inclusive”. Nobody thought that 4.5 white people sitting down to have a convo about diversity sounded like a joke? The issue in FPV, when it comes to diversity, is the lack of spotlight on people who are not white males. No one thought that people holding this convo should be more diverse?
Off course Rotor Riot is going to attract more “rebels” than Flight Test. It is a totally different approach… for instance, Rotor Riot is always pushing the limits of the Law…bridge dive anyone? Heck, like Zoe said, you guys have RIOT on the name!! Keep up the good work, but be ready to take some heat every now and then… women included.
This is beyond retarded. Easy fix… If you don’t want attention, then don’t seek it. Don’t walk in front of the camera, nor use a nickname which reveals your sex etc – don’t reveal anything for that matter btw. This is BBS “rules” from 1995 or something. Stay anonymous and post your skills, if that’s all you seek approval of. The FPV community is not protected in any way, or different from the society in general, thinking otherwise is just pathetic. Dragging politics into this is also a waste of time. People won’t change just because they fly FPV.
The hobby is much more accessible for kids now as well. Don’t expect it to be an adult only hobby anymore.
RR used to be about the pinnacle of FPV skills. Now it’s just a FPV club – trying to mix everything together, and be the voice of FPV. Horrible to witness.
If you’re a female, and you’re awesome at FPV. Great! Drones don’t discriminate, people do.
great podcast love it. you have spent way to much time giving the s**t talkersa exactly what they want. attention. if u cant handle or dislike the comments that much then the internet is not for you. you don’t need to be staring at a comment that makes u feel bad for 15 min. A-holes are everywhere, that’s reality. i got angry writing this lol. anyways keep up the hard work i love it. keep yo head up and your quad. ps mod zoe she would be great let her handle them wannabees. everything effects you on some level u cant make a perfect world dont try. and im done editing this commit lol
I find it funny how it’s not sexist when there’s a woman only drone group.
Make Zoe a RR piot. She would kill it, while pushing 3D. I would buy a RR 3D ready to fly with some tips on 3d flying from Zoe. Thanks for the episode.

While I appreciate all opinions… Ehhhhhh….. I dunno; Running a business is hard. It’s easy to offer opinions to someone else on how to run their (absolutely awesome imo) business.
