This Quad is about 350 to 400 feet high. I’ve had great results swapping out the short stock controller antenna, soldering a wifi router antenna and making sure the antenna is folded perpendicular to the quad during flight as the signal is radiated from the sides not the tip (Links below on how to do the range mod and many others). Have not lost signal yet with this set up and I can barely see it in the sky at this range. It is just a little white dot. I’m using the Lectron 950mah battery upgrade which was giving me 12+ minutes of run time but finally fried a motor with this flight. It lasted a good 20+ runs until the motor went. Next upgrade will be ball bearings and perhaps better quality motors if I can find any in this small size.

Ordered 4 new stock motors today (couldn’t find any better ones) and also
ordered a set of Boca bearings. I’ll let you know how it goes once they
come in and I test.

I doubt that you will find any better motors. The weakest link is the
brushes. No matter how good the motor is, it’s most likely that the
brushes will fail first. Going to brushless would be great, but it means
you have to change virtually every part of the quad.
Using the 950mah battery is going to impact the life of the motors. The
950 is 48 grams and I found it stated that the original battery is 23.3
grams. An extra 25 grams with the bigger battery doesn’t sound like much,
but it makes the motors work harder and hurts them. The H8C is
underpowered compared with my stripped down v262. I can tell that the
power to weight ratio of the H8C isn’t that good and you have to push it
pretty hard just to fly it around at stock weight.
The bigger battery means longer flight time, but the longer time means the
motors get hotter or at least stay hot longer than with the standard
battery. Hot motors don’t live long.
Your video is pretty sweet, but I’d be careful about doing it more.
Compared to the v262, the H8C doesn’t do very good with wind. It might be
nice and calm on the ground, but up there it can be a different story
especially that close to the ocean. By the time you realize that the wind
has got it and try to pull it back, it might be too far away. Far away
it’s hard to figure out your orientation. You might push full force
against the wind, but it still moves away from you because the wind is so
strong. You think it’s turned around, so you push the control the opposite
direction, now it takes of really fast away from you. Then you get a drop
out, it falls and spins. Then reconnects and you have no idea which way is
which now. Keep repeating this until it is finally out sight somewhere.
It happened to me with my v262 and that’s a lot bigger and more powerful
than the H8C. It was my usual flying location, sunny and calm. Turned out
to be anything but the usual flight. I gave up looking for it. I was very
lucky that someone found it and I got it back.
FPV might help with the orientation at long range, but that adds more
weight, so buy lots of motors.

Just saw your video here Dustin. Boy, that scenery tops anything I have
here in Canton, OH. I see lots of shake on the quad. Must have had those
ocean breezes affecting it. One of my cousins has both her daughters
living in Hawaii
