check the drop off zones on it I had the X 8W and the 8G lost both from drop off zone its a piece of crap
I own this quad and love it. The range is much further than my eyesight. I have had it up so high that its is a tiny speck. The altitude hold does work better on calm days. I have been trying to get my wife into quads. Last weekend she flew for the first time, or rather attempted to. It is a flying tank. Numerous hard landings and crashes, and nothing more than a bent blade and some scratches. Durable is an understatement. For a brushed motor HEAVY quad, this thing is very agile and quick. I hope you guys take it out some more and grow to love it as much as my son and I do.

it flies wayyy better and no more ” fighting” to bring her down safely…just be careful not to bring that throttle all the way down or motors cut off…
the stock sd card is junk so use a good class 10 card for best results…
i have 4 of the various x8 models and love them all…and as always be sure to run-in those brushes for 5-7 min. or so to get more motor-life…
i have a couple gps birds too but always love manual flying….that keeps ones skills sharp in case something ever happens to the gps…gotta know how to bring her home safely…

You probably need to format memory card first before using it in camera? I’ve seen footage from this drone before on YouTube, it’s very clear & accurate video. Normally altitude hold works well, but it must of been weird barometer pressure windy day messing with the sensor? Who knows…..?
Nate, I really like your reviews, sense of humor, and honesty. But this is one review were you didn’t give credit to the model. Why?
Because I don’t think you ‘got’ it. I own this quad and it is a good one. But you Nate need to understand that this is a Camera-bird not a sports/racing quad that you seem love so much. You don’t seem to like larger quads as evidenced by your DJI inspire that hardly ever gets flown.
I look at the Syma X8 HG (BTW- Syma already has a replacement model for this quad for sale, the X8-SC.) as a trainer of sorts for potential DJI phantom owners. I’ve noticed a number of times that you guys had trouble getting video or photos off of some of your quads. Don’t you check them before you fly? As I always do and have never had a problem shooting photos or video. The quad has lights on the front and back of the camera to tell you when it’s working. And also the quad will flash it’s lights when shooting video; a fact that you omitted. Along with the fact that it can shoot 720p or 1080p video which you also didn’t mention. You forgot to mention that the camera is on a dampened mount. You almost seemed to enjoy pointing out that the altitude hold system was affected by the wind. All of these barometer based systems are affected by high winds. Everyone knows that right?
I’ll be the first to admit that this quad does have its flaws/challenges:
1. If you hold down the throttle stick very long the motors will shut down and this quad will fall to the earth! (not the best design on Syma’s part).
2. The propeller mounting system is very fussy (but secure) and very easy to lose parts with! (this was fixed on the model of the X8 after this one. I have no idea why you guys chose to fly the older model.)
All I’m asking Nate Is that you give a model that you’re evaluating a fair shot and adequately describe it so that people can make their own choice. Don’t lose your objectivity. While at the same time keep yours, and Abby’s (The brains behind you two!) great sense of humor and honesty! Love your channel and I will continue to subscribe and enjoy it!

This drone is very strong and resilient, syma x8 I’ve changed the machine Bayangtoys x16 (GPS).
Do you still have your DJI clone by WLtoys?
The syma x8 was my first drone back in the day, I loved it, its a tank, I crashed it so many times including a 40 foot drop onto concrete with no damage other than a few scrapes.

I just purchased this quadcopter on eBay for $50.00, (NEW). But it’s the silver one, I’m fine with that. Also to my surprise, it came with the SanDisk ultra 8gig SD card. I have been flying it and just like everything about it…
I have got Syma X8 SW recently but the video from the sd card lags every 5 seconds however the video on phone is ok. Do you have any idea how I can have lag free video from sd card? Appreciate your help.
I fly my x8hg in my bedroom and its easy. It never fails. It gets a litte windy from the props though 🙂
