Syma X5HW is pretty fun, I flew it in some pretty heavy wind and it held very well. The auto hover works good too, this is the first quad I’ve had that on, I can see where its really handy for hovering around. It has no GPS so it wont hold position, but the altitude hold does work.
Flips are fun, the next video we will see how long it will do them, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss that! As much as I wanted to fpv it around, the latency/lag of the video, combined with the camera stuck being horizontal on the quad, ensures you cant fpv it very well, maybe they can make that adjustable in the future. But if your going to hover up high and look around it works well.
This is a great beginner quad, with the prop guards on it should be very durable. I’ve flipped it over a few times on landing and had zero damage. So its pretty tough. I think I might put a Runcam2 on it in the future and see how that goes.
Pro’s
– Auto hover works very well
– Flips and rolls with a button
– Affordable
– Comes with spare props
– Durable
– Stable!
– Does not require FAA registration as it weighs less than 250 grams.
Con’s
– Latency in the WiFi, not good for fpv
– Proprietary Syma battery connector prevents using third party batteries. But you could change the quadcopter’s power connector to a standard mini Losi connector if you wish to use the widely available generic (and cheap) Syma X5C batteries.
– Photo and video resolution is relatively low at 0.3MP/640x480p. This is an inherent limitation of WiFi FPV fliers.

I’m impressed that it managed to fly that high with the Wifi FPV on and
there wasn’t any signal drops either. I’m pretty sure it’ll go higher if
you take the camera off and use a non-Wifi camera. I wouldn’t suggest
lifting the Runcam 2 though as 50g is too heavy for the X5. The 808
keychain cam(20g) is a better choice. :-)
That is a great demo video! :)
Great flight..looks like a nice little quad :-)
I have a syma wifi camera and it is out of focus just like this one. It has
also caused two different quads to drop out of the sky due to interfering
with the controller signal, so I’m done with it.
After few days altitude hold not work well for my syma x5hw ! Any kind of
calibration for barometer ?
I emailed syma about that but no answer yet , also I saw same problem with
other owners of x5 hw after minor crash , so this problem will be asked a
lot after few months later , but quite sure there is some way of
calibration or reset of altitude hold
can i record video without the wifi FPV?
nice vid now ik how I’m gonna fly my own cuz I just ordered one l. thx for
vid
Very cool video!! Keep up the great work!! Here’s a drone community with
everything we droners need!! http://www.homedronevideos.net
the x5HW has a really ugly fpv recording, it is ugly and laggy, I think it
is better to buy x5HC or a better fpv quadcopter.
