Summary of the FullSpeed Toothpick:
Good performance with good quality assembly. Electronics seem reliable however FullSpeed has had ESC failure issues in the past. This is a brand new ESC and on this quad, the ESC performance is not the best but acceptable. In this size category, there is no best ESC. All the ones I’ve tested perform mediocre at best and this is no different. Throttle pumps yield some dipping and it’s very difficult to get a good tune on the quad as a result. Additionally, the longer weight distribution on the pitch axis also eats into the control performance of the quad for a number of reasons. The stretched X layout helps with managing the weight distribution in this case and overall performance is still very good. I have some concerns about the reliability of the Caddx camera on board based on my personal experience with Caddx cameras however the view is glorious for a quad of this size. I’ve pointed out many genitives but overall, the quad performs well and based on everything FullSpeed tells me, should be reliable. I would say that it’s currently the best option in the ‘Toothpick build style’ class.

Caution: Very high failure rate of the AIO board they produce. This one is supposed to have an updated version but hard to trust.
If you can get a hold of JUST the FullSpeed frame or something similar, I would recommend the following parts:
Succex 16×16 stack: http://bit.ly/2IKmuDi
AIO camera/vtx: https://goo.gl/xD8dQ6, http://bit.ly/2XxjRc1
Some sort of canopy re-design will be needed to fit this camera but the weight reduction is going to be a significant benefit.

I have another prop I’ve been working on coming that is MUCH better. Will come in a couple weeks.

An updated Toothpick video is going to be the very next video I post.
There’s a pretty awesome 4S 12A board coming from GEPRC soon:

Hold off on 220X motors for now. There is a bug in BLheli/BF that makes them act a little weird unfortunately. 🙁

Currently building a toothpick, frame is a standin 80mm until toothpicks get back in stock.
Looking for more of a micro racer, using tachyon 1104s and a 16mm iflight stack.
They had the gall to call it the toothpick! I’ll pass on this one and no more crazybee boards for me, I fried two in a Mobula 7. Never had a chance to try the 2nd one for a toothpick build.
Take my money…please
will the 1s-2s toothpick version be available at banggood anytime soon? will it have a better price than this one? By better price i mean at most 110$
Great??
We need better props! Thank you! ?
Will the props also be available with 1 mm hole?
The canopy can be leaned back by shortening the rear stand offs making the camera angle issue a moot point. I did it on the Tinyleader and got a 35 degree and could get 40 if I wanted to. The ESCs are usually an issue or was on the tinyleader but the motors on the tinyleader are 11000 KV and they should have used those along with an Airbot 18amp 3s 4 in 1. I think they went to 8000 because of burned up ESCs on 3s and I’m sure 4s they would burn. They went 4s because people think 4s is better and not know better cause they don’t understand disk loading. Overall 2s and 11000 KV would have been perfect or 3s if the 18amp Airbot was used and people just want to get crazy for whatever reason. This should have been an X and not stretched as I hate the way stretched x quads feel but that’s just me.
Well, it was a while when I used build with 1103 motors. They was nice to control on 2S and freaking fast on 3S 450 mAh if build was not too heavy. Pity that those small frames 2 years ago was very flaky and prone to break on not so serious crashes. Board quality was not top notch either – all my micro ESCs from those days already fried. Hardware and especially software now improved so much that I now have a wish to get old junk out from shelf, get decent frame and build something in that size again. Note about weight and prop size limits is 200% correct. Very easy to overweight these things having fat sparrows in result who eat batteries like candy and are too uncomfortable to control.
Caddx cameras are mixed bag. Good picture in general, small size and affordable price. But quality fails in some positions, rendering these cameras partially usable. For example EOS2 camera – small and light enough to install in Mobula7 whoop and picture resolution and dynamic range are amazing. However colors are oversaturated and dark areas are turning red in afternoon’s sun. I don’t understand why. Designers are even not Chinese, they are Americans. Even Chinese Runcam and Foxeer learned how to build FPV cameras right. Why Caddx suck, why? If price is an issue then double it, but replace signal processing chip and do quality control as required to avoid glitches about that people are complaining. Well, from Ratel camera it look that Caddx are learning. Maybe they will make EOS3 camera for whoops that will not have oversaturated colors and dark areas in red.
Great to hear your opinion of this quad. Thanks for posting!
why use that dipole instead of a lolipop cp
So wow just wow lol not that it is a very cool quad I love the stretch x and canopy but the beta85x i have is on a similar frame i think it’s the bandito style i printed with carbon filament and it is freaking amazing from the esc to the motors i did scale the throttle to 90% and threw my rates/pids in there it is my favorite quad out of all mine, fast has more control than I ever thought possible , haven’t tried those props couldn’t find any so I’m using 2″gemfan hulkies! It is simply the best!!
Love the people way smarter than me doing some sick stuff with these 1s’ers. Here’s another –
Thx for the review. I really dislike those FS motors. But the HM 1102s are Awesome.
I have sworn off Caddx cameras after 2 failed units. Luckily it wasn’t during flights but on power up.
I wish it wasn’t a stretch and better motors would be nice. Would you recommend getting a mobula and a toothpic frame and swapping all the guts over or is this a better option
