It’s also one of the most gentle fliers that I’ve ever seen. But set it to position 3 and watch out. I almost get stung by this zippy hornet at 25:10 into this video 😉
Pros
– Unique modular design with optional versions/capabilities. This particular quadcopter is the FPV version (camera FPV transmitter module and receiver screen).
– Very gentle flier in GPS modes 1 and 2. Yet in its manual mode it can be very fast and maneuverable.
– Lots of power and plenty of “punch”.
– Good on screen display (OSD) information of this FPV version of the Hornet. Could be better though if satellite status was included.
– Well designed, good looking transmitter, with good ergonomic “feel”.
Con’s
– Requires FAA registration.
– FPV version can not record video (no SD card slot).
– OSD can momentarily lose link.
– I could not get automatic takeoff to work.
– Charging of smart battery can be confusing. It’s necessary to turn on the battery for it to be charged by its charger.
– GPS satellite status is not displayed with OSD data. Can only determine satellite status by rear tail lights staying steady green. As such, can not evaluate the quality of satellite positioning, such as number of received satellites being used.
– Although beginner’s can fly this in GPS position 1 mode, not recommended for beginner fliers without supervision by more experienced fliers. Although very easy to fly in GPS mode, the pilot should really be capable of flying this in manual mode in case GPS satellite lock is lost.

Pity it doesnt turn around when u hit RTH. ( Unlike the cheap 502E LOL!).

I like that if your flying manually and lose orientation you can toggle it
to GPS mode and recover. What’s the fpv range? What’s the quad range?

What the heck is it with that FPV display that keeps going to “JYU HORNET
OSD …. LOADING” … then back to the FPV display? If that happens at the
wrong time, it could be disastrous. It’s also dangerous to come back at
whatever altitude its at when you hit RTH. The compass calibration is a bit
much, and the wait for GPS satellite acquisition (without giving you any
clue as to how many it has other than the lights) is, as SeBy would say
“not incredible”. They claim 20-25 minutes of flight time, but your flight,
when the battery dropped to 9.9v with low battery warning, was far less. On
the plus side, once you do get it calibrated and acquire GPS satellites, it
seems very easy to fly. Maybe they’ll tweak the firmware and iron out a few
bugs down the road. Thanks for the review .. Cheers.

Great review. 🙂 Isn’t there an FPV receiver screen you can get that does
record the video it receives so you don’t have to use a camera that
distorts and catches glare? Until then maybe you should put a flip door on
the sunshade opening to stop the glare.

hey 101 for the auto take off you need to start the quad then push the
button for auto take off …
I read that the Mode 1 was also intended to be the mode you would use while

bought the syma x5c because of the review and said how good of a beginner

You can only buy the basic version from the US warehouse. You cannot buy
the fpv module yet separate. If you order from China it’s more money but
you can buy the FPV model..weird..
The other USB plug on the back of the controller is used to plug in their
FPV goggles instead of using the monitor.

Is your interest primarily in aerial photography? If so, would recommend a quadcopter dedicated to that purpose. This one is something that tries to be everything at once. As such, it does a reasonable job, but doesn’t really excel in any of these areas.

The Hornet S and Remote Controller are bound together as a working pair when you receive them. However, you can bind additional Hornet S aircraft to the same remote controller in this way:
1. Turn the Hornet S and Remote Controller Power OFF.
2. Press and hold the Return to Home and Take Off/Land buttons.
3. Turn the Remote Controller power ON
4. Turn the Hornet S power ON
5. When the LED indicator on the Remote Controller turns Green, the Hornet S is successfully bound to the Remote Controller.

Then if you’re certain that the batteries of both the quadcopter and transmitter are fully charged, then it’s time to contact your vendor’s customer service to see if they can help resolve.

CX23 FPV lets you record in flight video. JYU Hornet FPV version does not. However, JYU Hornet is faster than CX-23 if speed is more important than video.
Yes, but it costs a LOT more ($530). At that price you should start to consider DJI products.

Hello Quadcopter 101, I replaced clockwise motor and when I tested it all 4 motors ran at a higher idle speed. I don’t understand why it’s doing this ? Can you give me any advice. they sent me a counter clockwise motor so i switched wires around and I’m not going to use a sleeve over shaft to make clockwise prop work until clockwise motor gets here. The company suggested that i do that. I think I’ll wait for clockwise motor gets here. Sounds unsafe to do otherwise.Thanks for all your video’s. I’ve made most of my buys based on your reviews. Great quad, looking at getting one, are you able to do a timed flight test with gimble attached, as I was reading in the description that only able to fly for 7 – 8 minutes with gimble..which would totally suck for aerial photography. Or should I hold out for the Hornet 2

sir, I have a cg035 which does not bind with the transmitter. The transmitter low batter alarm keeps beeping and the gimbal does not work – and obviously the motors will not start – all this right out of the box – banggood is non responsive at this time – any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix? Hi there I have received one and I am trying to find the app. Apparently the maker must have gone bust, nothing in the App store anymore. Anyone has an idea ?
This does not use an app. Instead, analog video is transmitted on 5.8Ghz frequency. The video may be viewed with the included 5.8Ghz receiver monitor screen. But if yours did not come with the screen, you may also view video on 5.8Ghz drone FPV racing goggles or monitor screens. Here’s an example
But before purchasing, make sure that yours has a camera as shown in the video. When this drone was released four years ago, there was also a version that did not include a camera.
