I can’t think of anything I’m less excited for than this specific manned drone. ugly, no battery life, and it runs this badly without any of the control systems built in.
Even when they build them if a human did the G forces in contemporary drone racing tracks they’d black out and die. Even at 5inch scale they discharge batteries in a couple of laps drone races go for like 3 laps and finish in a couple of minutes. Also take a look at how often they wipe at gates, they’re never putting a human in one of these things, and if they do they’re never putting them head to head.
Looks like the manned drone from German teenies “RealLifeGuys”… Just more powerful and professional.

Again, I get the feeling you guys just don’t trust this thing. I don’t blame you much; if it were to crash the pilot would be ****ed by the landing, let alone the 12 projectiles whirring about around them. Probably should work on that part, the frame and fuselage; building the body so that it can absorb the impacts of both and then maybe the test pilot would be more willing to actually test the “aircraft”. Also there is nothing to protect the blades from impacting with birds or other objects that are often in the air too. Not like a plane where all you have to do is make sure nothing is around one prop, now you have twelve, possibly redundant props and all of them potentially dangerous.

What about rotor failure? Does it have a parachute? Gliding or auto-rotation are out of the question for something like this. You need a contingency plan for the contingency plan when you go airborne. I love the idea of personal manned drones however just slapping on props to a carbon tub with zero options in case of power loss is a bit insane.
When this will be advanced enough to be deemed safe for a human, the price will be easily within the high 6 figures bracket.

Shroud the propellers and incorporate them into the body structure. It will be more aerodynamic and way more safe than this flying decapitation machine.
I can’t wait to see a race and several of these crashing into each other or onto people on the ground. If they leave the propellers unshrouded we talking about decapitations, severed arms, legs and other interesting parts of the body….
The problem with powered lift air vehicles is what happens when the engines cut out. You can’t have a ballistic parachute that works below 400 feet unless it’s a Zero Zero system like on fighter planes. But that would add a huge weight penalty which the drone couldn’t accommodate. Yeah, good luck to the spectators if these things ever crash into the crowd. Talk about minced meat with these exposed propellers…
