If you fly FPV miniquads you will be familiar with the crashes and “moments” that comprise this video. While it is tempting to only post the good stuff, sometimes it’s nice to post the worst moments, stuff-ups and dumb-thumbs of the day. Here are mine from last week. Mini quadcopters in this video are the QAV250 and MXP230 and cameras used were the Mobius (standard lens) and RunCamHD.
Woahhh @2:38:P
Super cool Tree-dodging !!!!
+metalldanny LOL…
hanging around in the tree is just better than falling down :P
+tnxmatze Yeah, I’m going to have to get Phil to show me how he does that
🙂
Dear XJet. On behalf of all the old farts, I’d like to advise you that your
video is 12 seconds longer than the advertised length. Please correct your
video title or risk us throwing our toys out the cot again.
I blame that on the silly trees :P
+BMSWEB And the ground…. I’m sure the ground wasn’t there last time I
looked. Who put that ground there? It must have been +metalldanny because
he’s running scared that I’m getting better than him (ROTFL)
+xjet haha 😀
“Sudden lack of skillz”… it is the one and only reason why I crash:)
You look like you are having way too much fun. Model planes are not about
fun. They are for talking about on the flight line where they sit for two
hours and fly for 5 minutes in the proper circuit.
Thats what aeromodelling is ……..
+Stephen Gloor LOL, you’ve been reading the back of a cocoa tin haven’t you?
Oh yeah – I have been out to the local club field with my combat wing.
They were a bit more receptive than I would have thought however they are
totally anti-multicopter. That was made plain in the first few minutes. I
let slip that my wing has an autopilot and the dreaded word ‘drone’ came
out.
However I need their flying field as our planes are getting a bit dangerous
for parks now.
One guy, I swear, was there the entire two or three hours I was there and
flew his Cub once and that seemed to be a great achievement as if flying is
sort of an option.
+Stephen Gloor Yep, that’s how it’s always been with the old fellas. I
recall as a young lad, cycling 10 miles every Sunday to the club flying
field near our town and watching all the old men sit around. I’d ask “are
you going to fly?” and the response was usually “this plane needs a bit of
wind before it will fly”. An hour or so later, when a gentle breeze had
just begun I’d ask again — and the reply was inevitably “No, it’s a bit
windy today”.
Every weekend there’d be a dozen or so people and models lined up in the
pits and every weekend only about two of them would actually fly. I
couldn’t figure it out. I see some things never change though.
The little run leading up the 4:25 crash was looking really slick Bruce.
How many props did you go through that day? 🙂
I’ve been trying the partial carbon GemFan 5040 props. They are definitely
stiffer, but so far, have broken any time I hit anything. Do you think they
are worth it? (test stand test requested)
+HighFlight2k2 Six props that day. I’m going to be testing some more props
soon… including the super-tough ones from Surveilzone
Great video sir! That was fun to watch 🙂 Sorry for all the damage (mostly
props I guess) offcourse :)
Aye that ground is a bugger,it always seems to appear just when you don’t
want it to
You don’t have to speed up your footage to impress us Bruce.. O.o
+MOEMUGGY No speeding up there.. all is as it comes from the camera. Yes, I
really do fly that slow 😉
No flips and rolls Bruce? 🙂
+megajig Of course there was… however, I usually start them by hitting a
tree or the ground 🙂
Man, that Mobius just struggles with the light changes doesnt it.
+MrShufty Is that the Mobius? Whatever it is, it’s terrible. Needs manual
exposure control. Is there a video camera with an “HDR” type of mode, I
wonder.
+pillsnotbills Its says RunCamHD on the video.
+Bill Roberts First bits were filmed with the Mobius and I switched to the
RunCam when the Mobius battery ran out.
+Bill Roberts I know a Mobius when I see one 😉
+MrShufty haha you were right.
That is actually a really great place to fly Bruce!
Am I correct in assuming that you’re flying horizon mode in the first part
of this video? The jerky movements are typical for horizon (or angle) mode
flying, whereas the clips from just before the RunCam footage and onward
are much more fluid and typical to flying rate only.
+Sindre No, rate mode all the way. The runcam footage looks smoother and
faster because this unit has a wider-angled lens than the Mobius and it was
also later in the day when I’d got a little more “in the groove”. Also, the
faster I go, the smoother I get.
Is it flips and rolls next?
+MQR FPV – Mini Quad Rampage Hey, I did plenty of flips and rolls in that
video… it’s just that they were caused by trees and the ground rather
than on purpose 😉
Haha!!! I do the same thing all the time as well! Its much easier than
trying to move the sticks… 🙂
Sudden…????
😀 😀 :D
Good stuff, and almost no trees harmed in the making of the video.
I like the wide angle lens of the runcam. It looks way faster and more
immersive when ur flying.
+David Kaden Absolutely… it makes a huge difference. The Mobius (with
standard lens) makes everything look slow — the RunCam makes it look just
like it does through the goggles.
Looks like a “usual” flight for me. LOL How is our mate Barry? Haven’t seen
him lately on any videos.
Cheers Mate,
John
+jchtr3ac Barry’s been working because he’s not really into miniquads and
now MFNZ have really screwed him by removing their “lone member” option.
Since he doesn’t want to join the local club, that means he’s unable to
renew his MFNZ membership and thus he loses his “wings”. What a bunch of
arseholes they are — Barry lives and breaths RC flying and now (likely due
to his association with me), they’ve changed the rules in a way that
effectively penalises him for that.
+xjet What a shame. Those fools will not stop at any length to screw you
and Barry over. Shameless SOB’s. At least let Barry know that some of us
miss him, and wish him the best.
Arg, dang ol pesky trees, always jumping right out in front of you! I know
how you feel, I crashed and busted up a cheap hobbyking fpv250 last night
trying to fly in too much wind , grrr!
he he enjoyed that bruce thankyou for sharing ,
Very nice job Bruce!
Ton of fun over there :)
Gotta bring the pain to win the game. sharing it!

Team Nana on Redbull
Seen that Charpu “left behind”? looks great, then we see the out takes 😉
I hit a gate last night, not even FPV…what a cock!!
Gotta stop doing donuts in your ute before flying =]
+juz70 Damn… caught out again!
Great video. Wish we could see flight footage from your FPV cam.
Great video. Wish we could see flight footage from your FPV cam.
Bruce has officially gone nanners. Your the best:)
+xjet I believe the great Bruce Simpson once said “If you aren’t crashing you aren’t trying hard enough.”
There is always someone filming when you do the walk of shame haha
🙂
what do you mean by lack of skills exactly, I fly like this at my best 🙂
0:55 is that Bigfoot 🙂
+xjet Fantastic.
You guys are reckless across the ditch ?
Some nice crashes there Bruce, how long from when you first started flying mini quads to when you started flying in rates mode, I’m still in intermediate mode, I’ve tried rates mode but I’m all over place.
Do you have any tips that might help.
Yep, that looks like my my flying a few days ago, except you are smart enough to not fly around chain link fences… They hate props.
How can i be a Team Nana pilot?
G’day,
Yay Team…!
Wheeeeee-SPLATbouncie..Bump !
;-p
Ciao !
I guess I’m not such a bad pilot after all……….Thanks Bruce!
Thanks Bruce. There were some great flying moments in this. Brilliant!!!
And there were some even better crashing moments. Brilliant!!!
Thanks for sharing it all. Team Nana is never boring. 🙂
Some funny moments there mate lol!
