When I thought I watch all the videos u made I keep finding more and more lol u are the best my brother.
Josh thank you so much!, I’m very new to the hobby it’s only been eight months where I bought my first drone which happened to be a Mavic pro 2 and most recently getting into and enjoying so much FPV your videos help me so so much I’ve learned incredible amount but keep up the good work thank you again
Glad to have you as a viewer!
so what type of motors will also work on this build
The motors I use are linked in the video description but if you want something else chdck http://www.fpvknowitall.com which has a section with all my parts recommendations.
I watch some of ur videos. But never seen anything about escs that blow up after setting dshot1200. Or leds not working as programmed or at all
I love you man I really do you do so much for helping people with this hobby and it’s very appreciated
Hell yeah cuhhh
Can you guys imagine being Bardwell and just being able to build any quad you want at any time and get it to fly exactly how you like without even busting a sweat? I would pay top dollar for his FPV knowledge to be installed in my brain.
What about a UK alternative so I don’t have to wait weeks for the parts to arrive
I’m not sure what shops in the UK would carry this stuff. I would just have to suggest you check in the shops you frequent. Unfortunately, there are so many countries all over the world, I can’t put links to every local shop 🙁
This is a bit advanced for a newb, but great video once I can get to that point. Got one that’s for new pilots? I’ll start looking.
@Joshua Bardwell You DO have one, HA! You the man brother! Thanks a ton. You have so many damn video’s it was taking a while to go through them all. 🙂
would you consider doing a cinematic drone.. id like to see what you would choose ?!
when will you make a new dji version of this?
I already did a DJI HD1 build series check my channel uploads.
Hello Joshua, great videos super instructional.
I am looking to this build however I already have the HolyBro Kakute F7 HDV – Tekko32 F3 HDV 4-in-1 40A ESC Stack, is it possible to use this stack with your setup?
Also, what kind of goggles and controller do you recommend for this setup?
Are you planning to build with the Air Unit? A roomier frame might make for an easier build. The setup with the Kakute HDV is much simpler since you don’t have to wire up camera, vTX, or receiver. Just plug in the Air Unit.
Joshua Bardwell Hi Josh
tks for the reply
I was going to go with the dji air unit, but i ended up changing my mind, I do have a HD1 frame and a XILO Phreakstyle Freestyle frame with me.
I also in between the Fatshark
HDO Rapid Fire Bundle or the Attitude V5 what do u think?
in regards of the Controller which one u reccomend?
everything else that i will get is on your list except the GPS module that I also saw on another of your videos
thanks again
How much was the total build
About $450
Hi Joshua, why didn’t you use an immortal T on this build? Also do you have any flight footage? Thanks in advance
Hey, JB! Great videos! Love them. Can you help me out on some deciding factors on a drone being built for a school project?
This was a great build and education for me. I love to build and fly RC. The video and his commentary mad this build so much fun. His list of components for this build were awesome. Now MY flying is another story. Thanks again JB for making my this video and hopefully we will get a chance to fly FPV the next time you come out to hawaii. #RICKRAYPOINT.
i feel like the best way to do this is just to buy the parts, sit down a full day and watch this video over and over… im not very good at figuring out what other parts to buy but i trust your expertise so untill i understand everything i probably will just build this. I want to be the first FPV drone person in Idaho lol idk any
also do you have test footage with this guy? curious to see how it flies!
What happen with the leds of the arms, that suddenly disappear?
Were they behind the orange tape?
hi, Joshua I’m lost in building, I fly planes, helicopters, and drone. Most of them are ARF, BNF, PNP. I am looking into building drone, and this video is a great start, I have questions on some of the parts, but my first question is what is the difference between Betaflight 4.1 and Betaflight Configurator 10.6.0? I have a drone BNF that I try install a crossfire receiver. I got a green light from it but my flight controller is now giving me errors, “flightcontroller com errors” this is from the goggles. I try to get on a Betaflight Configurator and it will not connect any more it did but after I installed the receiver not any more.
is Betafilght 4.0 a better program and were do you get BF4.0? or is it the same. Thanks Scott
I really want to build a quad , I’m new to the hobby and really do like it. Can anyone help me or point me in the direction to learn the nomenclature of all this. I’m having a hard time understanding most of what’s connected and called as far as parts , what they do , etc. Thanks in advance
@Joshua Bardwell didn’t think I’d get a response from the man himself. Thank you sir !
Lead is from the environment there are places where lead is chillin on the surface of the earth
I build the same quad but i got the mamba f7 flight controller. I got the same pids as you but i became death rolls , please help me. ☹️
Oh, that drone is cuter! and I here crying for the death of the ESC of my x220s, greetings from Argentina!
Joshua, I just built this using your parts, and I notice two things in this built. One in the video you use uart 6 not 4 for your receive please look at the video. next this is my question in your video you did not show where you install the ViFly Finder v2. Can you tell me were you put in on the board. thanks it flys great. thank you very much this was my first one. Next question I have is, with a 4 in 1 esc where in Blheli or betaflight you can change the direction of one motor, I could not find it and I just witched the wire on the quad to work. thank you Scott
Thank you for this video!
I’ve seen good build tutorials before but they always cut out that last bits and I get lost. This however is fantastic! ?✌️
Build starts at 9:29
I dont know why I watched this video? I hate soldering things, I dont do fpv. but I use to love flying , Now I am on the fence. I dont want to learn anything else, I dont want to spend any more money, I dont want any more all nighter’s with wires, motors and shrink rap all over my sanford and sons kitchen. and two pc’s filled to capacity with hours and hours of un-edited quad copter footage. I think I watch these videos because on subconscious level? I sort of always knew that all those toy china quad’s that I use to buy and try to repair ? are extremely inferior to the crafts that the DIY folks and developers put together.
Is this a 6s or a 4s?
Are you a magician? Or how does the RaceLed disappear at 50:50? 😉
I would like to see that too….
IIRC a hemostat has a clamping locking action while forceps rely on pressure from the user. Learned a lot from your video, thanks.
Awesome build, nicely explained all the way through, but i do have comments about the soldering in general… NOT saying JB is wrong though, just soldering pointers from one nerd to another:
The reason for not running you Soldering Iron at max temperature is the danger of delaminating the PCB. A multi-layered PCB can have several cobber joints through each hole, and they can disconnect if overexposed to heat, and the PCB itself might take damage, where the cobber layer might physically disjoin from the dielectric laminate underneath. The number of times you heat up a PCB, and the higher the temperature during each heat up, the higher the risk of delaminating and potentially destroying the PCB. In EU, the RoHS directive states that compliant PCB’s should only use lead-free soldering, hence extra heat during soldering is required, just like JB said, but this only adds to injury and reduces the number of times you can heat up a given PCB before damaging it.
Arguably you then should only pre-solder the wires and NOT the PCB, and use different Soldering Iron tip sizes for the various sizes of joints you solder, with the added bonus of being able to fit the wires through the holes of the PCB, which yields extra strength to the general build as well. I know pre-soldering is really convenient… but you can use a “helping hand stand” to do without.
So If you take a look at 11:56, JB should have planned the order of soldering the other way around, ABC instead of what he did, CBA. You will see him heat up the C joint unintentionally during the pre-soldering of joint B. That’s how you create unwanted bridging and blow fuses or even entire PCB’s. JB didn’t, and he would have most likely caught it before power up… cause he’s SO cool… but I’m just saying that planning the solder order and choosing tips can really help get it right the 1st time around and avoid delaminating PCB’s 🙂
Happy New Year to you all, and HUGE thanks to Joshua Bardwell for delivering such nice content ! sry for the TL/DR comment here.
Im 16 minutes into this video …let me say thank you. I’ll probably build this given the detail provide. Wow
great vid , thanks
Nice build video thank you, new sub just found your channel peace!u don’t come across as a fpvking knowitall too which is nice ]:o)
I am setting up my apex with a Kakute F7 1.5 which has the same layout as this FC and I’m using RealPit. You put the FC of the RealPit to M5 but didn’t show how to set it up in Betaflight or the controller. Do you have to change M5 to a TX?

I found the video for the RealPit setup.
I found the video for the RealPit setup.
Boss, Perhaps you may have any update on this subject???
Impressive. ☺
Hi Joshua and happy new year,
I am new in fpv drone and l check on youtube for that and you are more professional dude that have more experience in this so, l need your advice about this, pls
Thanks for your great work and all the best
Eachine has a great track record of making good, inexpensive ready to fly kits. I don’t know that one specifically though.
Is this 6s?
Hey drone community, sorry if this is a dumb question but I am wanting to build a drone and need some tips. This is how I think I will do this and then you can just tell me if I am totally off and it’s not possible due to compatibility issues. This is the build I have planned out for my long range fpv.
TBS source one 7″ freestyle frame
Lumenier 2407 1700kv motors
JBardwell F4 AIO flight controller bundle with 4 in 1 ESC 3-6s
6s Xilo battery 2250mAh 75c
Don’t know what transmitter yet but most likely a Jumper T-16
Micro Crossfire Tx Module
TBS Nano Crossfire receiver
And that is what I have so far. I know I want the drone to fly for at least 12 mins and maybe get about 1.2 mile… I know that the ESC that I want can hook up a VTX but I might want one with better range… I am really not sure about that but honestly I have only had a micro drone up to this point but have done tons and tons of research since I got it because of how fun it was. I know I’ve probably hit only the tip of the iceberg because there are still a lot of things I don’t understand about the compatibility between these parts like if I can hook a seperate VTX up to the drone or how I know all these parts will be compatible with the firmware I have to use. Anyway, I know that is long, but I do need help. I will keep doing research on my own but I am asking just for any advice THANK YOU! So excited to join this hobby.
Hello thanks for this great video.
Can I ask something?
Dou know how can get informations about programming a pro flight controller in c or c++ languages in Keil ide?
I search a lot but nothing found.
If you know please tell me. Thank you
YES! love build vids i’m going to build a 5″ soon 😀
hmm you know what’s loud? motorbike alarms. they are SO LOUD. literally i feel like maybe getting one and hacking it apart and getting the loud thing from it and using that 😀
nice the build is like a dvd commentary 😀
you definitely need more screws, of many varieties ready to go 😀
WOW i love that there’s secret back doors hidden in stuff i am DEFINITELY building things like that into anything i design because why the heck should pointless obstacles and silly rules put in place by transient governments get to stop stuff working as well as the physics should allow that feels CRUEL to deliberately cripple things :<
hmm i want to plait my engine wires on the way to the esc now.. i WONDER if theres some benefit in terms of aerodynamics or rigidity or robustness if they’re tucked in as much as possible, smooth like braids then break out as a similar unified height and angle onto the esc pads
YES twisted silicone wires are amazing
What is the overall coast of this quad?
350-400$
Does anybody know if the Armatton Chameleon frame can fit the dji system in? Just getting into the hobby (dont worry will be living in a simulator before I touch a kwad).. But I got impulsive and purchased a 2nd hand rtf chameleon build because the price was too good to pass on!).
Still unsure what route I will go re goggles and radio, but as I am just getting into it, I am considering dji. Will it fit??
[Btw your videos are invaluable to anybody getting into the hobby JB. Thank you so much for your work. If I can ever help support you I will use your links every time]
What happened to the cl racing strips towards the end?
First time I watched a quad build all the way through, I enjoyed your video. Not bad considering I build model planes with 26cc to 60cc gas engines along with some electric aerobatic ones! Your video was very interesting and informative. ??.
For the tinning of you got bad solder or like it good buy bakers fluid no 1 it expensive abit but last you your life time it is for tinning and wow that wot I use but not for quad just soldering things at home
I self build many quadcopters for filming. But all with Nase or Pixhawk controller. Now, after seeing JB’s film (building my perfect quadcopter)I decided to build this freestyle. I ordered already all the parts as JB wrote. Only…..I never works with Betaflight. JB aded the setup in Exel files. I don’t know how to use this. Is it posible to show this setup in screen pictures of Betaflight? JB, I hope you will read this or maybe someone else. Thanks, Herman (netherlands)
Awesome, always wondered about that. I hope that there is a part 2 where you show LOS and FPV flight footage.
Thanks for sharing Joshua

Wait is GPS for recovery? Or does FPV have DJI Mavic type GPS now?!
Well, I use no lower then 50amp ESC’s for my DJI sets ups.
Hi, 1 year later, is this still a good choice or would you build it different now, with different parts?
Man seems like you know alot about these I’m trying to get into em I can not wait till I get my money right to get one!!! Hopefully I’ll be as good as you!! Love watching ya videos I’m going to make a few videos once I get one.. maybe one day well fly together!!
Try using copper wires instead of aluminium. Better conducting and softer (easier to work with (bends). But harder to solder because it transfers heat much more rapidly.
Yo this shit’s complicated.
Are those motors just cw or are there ccw thread versions? Its kinda hard to find motors that come in cw and ccw
Nobody does that any more because now that Turtle Mode is a thing, props spin both directions. So there is no way to guarantee that the prop will always tighten. Just use nylock nuts and they will stay on.
I use 1 bead of shoe goo on my ufl. It can be cut free easy and tough. Great build. Back in the day Edmund Scientific used to sell Sorbathane shock absorbing compound rubber. It would make epic battery pad as it is sticky like urethane. Used it in stunt protection gear on xfiles and 21Jumpstreet. I think an insole company bought rights?
Love the gold engines
I was just able to order everything except the motors. Could you recommend a good substitute motor for this build?
Xing are quite good.
Very good and meditative Video 🙂
Very good and meditative Video 🙂
@Joshua Bardwell Thanks for the Reply. I wound up going with Lumenier ZIP 2407 2550kv Motor
s. They were the closest thing I could find in specification to your motor. I am really looking forward to this build. Also, Thank you for all you have done over the years for the FPV Community. You are an endless source of very good information.
Is it possible to use this same build but on a different frame?
I would love to see a new video like this, updated for 2020.
do you have a “perfect freestyle quad build” video using dji yet? thanks
do you have a “perfect freestyle quad build” video using dji yet? thanks
Руки бы поотбивать за такую пайку))))))))
Try heat shrinking your Immortal T … If it takes damage, it stays looking brand new.
What happened to the LED race wire?
What Fpv goggles and transmitter do you use?
It’s a problem to have the LED on the arms when you bend a prop ?
Great video Joshua, even though it was a year ago still good info. Just wondering did I miss something? I saw on the first part your quad had racing led on the arm then 2/3 through now it’s got read taped wires?
I built three of these. Only two had racewire.
I flew a betaflight 75 pro 2 for a month now indoors and outdoors! I am thinking of making this my very first build! What do you think?
2020 update!
Much needed, and very timely!
The instrument is called curved Kellys
I agree!
Shes a beaut
if i want to buy a whole kit like the one you built there . where do i go ? just one click and check out? or i have to chose parts? my fear is miss a part and thats why im asking if you have a whole kit put together to check out
Can we see a 2020 update of this video, with bonus (separate video, maybe) on GPSLOCK and ALTLOCK functionality? The Kakute F7 has in-built barometer, so maybe a straight-forward path?
OKay, I’m getting this one ✊?????
Is there anything you would change if you were doing this build today, 14 months later?
Yes, lots. I’m working on putting together a parts list for a new build. I will be shooting for a lighter frame, using my 2208 instead of 2407 motors, and the Eagle is now discontinued so I will be doing a replacement camera.
me too, since most parts are out of stock/ not found…
I have always used Spektrum and Futaba in the past for planes and stuff but why doesn’t anybody use these brands now? I have to buy all new transmitters arrrgggg!!
does anyone have any footage of this one flying I cant find any of JB’s footage of flying this model thanks
Can you do a 2020 build of your favourite components please Joshua ?
Also do you notice much difference between motors and can you do your Top 5 motors and why..
Thankyou kindly Peter ?

The xt 60 Kabel comes not with the esc ☹️
Hey Josh – Nice one! How many quads are actually built in this video? One with and another one without leds? Cheers
Three
Weight?
dunno about these days but back in “the day” we called hemostats “roach clips”.
A lot of fpv people have money for 600 dollar quads but can`t afford a wire stripper for 20 bux.
It’s not about money I just hate having redundant tools.
Yes Josh! New ultimate drone video!
your 14awg just became 16awg aftr wire stripping. hehe
sorry to rez this thread… This may be a known issue but I tried to clean my “JB” RunCam micro eagle with alcohol. The plastic that the adapter (micro to mini size cam) is made of will not survive a scrub with the industry standard chemical for cleaning electronics. That’s always fun. Good cam otherwise. Guess I’ll use the down time while I wait for a new adapter for something productive like… re-watching old JB videos. ‘Cause I can’t go back to a junk camera now :-/
The JB signature red tape. Ugly as hell. Fun build video though ?
I say we give Joshua a real soldering station including a smaller tip.
Excellent video !
I build this quad during the winter. Now in the first flights I realized that the feed is pretty noisy when the motors start spinning. The fix was to power the camera from the VTX. I left the real pit powered from the FC.
Maybe this will help somebody else…
would be very nice!!
Infel Gamothrate I noticed that he didn’t solder a capacitor to the ESC in the video. My ESC came with one (t-motor f55a). Umm, do I use it?
@Creepy Mouse , absolutely. It cannot hurt definitely!
and something learned again, and that even dough I still not have a drone jet, thanks for the video! ?
The only thing I didn’t understand was the second drone;;;;
