In this part of the low-cost FPV mini quadcopter drone racer build series I look at the Naze32 board and how it is installed/programmed. If you want to skip past the configuration stuff you can jump to 31:24 and if you wait until the end, you’ll see whether this little mini quadcopter flies 🙂

I love everything that you do. I feel that you have a great combination of
educational and conversational as well as what’s important and what’s not.
Thank you so much for this and keep doing what you are doing. God knows I
am loving this hobby thanks a lot to you and these great videos
Great series Bruce, it helped this newbie out a lot. My mini still fly’s
like crap and I have tried 20 different PID settings. ( I guess I should
have got the full featured NAZE with auto leveling.) Hey you guys aren’t
that old… My first RC plane had a single channel and used an escapement.
Now that old!
what receaver is he using
Nice build! .. is that a “kit” of some sort or did u order parts
seperately? I’d love to see a link to each part purchased and where u got
it since it is a “Low cost miniquad” – cause i’d love to build a quad
myself 😀
EDIT: nevermind, i saw u got the links on your “part 1” video :)
Bruce you crack me up, the hobby king Velcro its the shizzle! haahahahah!
Hi Bruce. Have you done a review on the
Vortex mini race quad of immersionRC?
If you did. What do you think of it?
+Johan Opperman No he hasn’t. Its a expensive piece of kit but its from
ImmersionRC so you know it will wok well. Not for me though but I like
their radio and FPV gear.
Very cool video. I’m considering building my own, but I will change that to
“someday” and instead watch a few more of your videos 🙂 Maybe I’ll try
hacking together an autonomous quad first :)
great tutorials and videos. really interesting althoug i would allow a
little fast foreward a few times ;-)
Bruce, great video as always. On miniquads is there any value using small
rubber washers on everything to reduce high frequency vibrations? (mainly
to protect the Naze, but for everything really)
Cany wait for episode 5 keep up the great work love your channel
Hi, what does everyone recommend for an first time fpv setup? (tx,rx,
camera and a screen) Thanks 🙂 something cheap ish and reliable :)
Loved that launch.
Is there gonna be a Part 5 where you show how to install the FPV equipment?
Great videos by the way! New subscriber here hoping to get into the RC
Quads scene =)
Any reason that you didn’t mount the ESC’s on the main chassis? Would have
solved all the problems with wires being too short.
Your vids are the best RC info on youtube, Building my own plane would have
been a nightmare without your axn build videos. Now i’m considering trying
to build a quad because of these quad build videos. Thank you.
What radio do they sell? They only sell ready to fly. I like to build my
own one. Just don’t know which frame to buy!! Have you seen the R220 kid
from Red20RC. Frame is well made too. Which frame do you have?
Thanks for info.
Cheers Johan
Hope some one here can help me.
I’ve enabled “feature motor_stop”, but how do I disable it again?
Where does the receiver get its power? Via PPM?
How are you powering your naze board?
can you set camera tilt servo on naze 32 or better motor tilting servo and
how many chanels do you need for that I see you’re using 4 chanel reciever
with CCPM and You have 4 normal channels and extra aux can I use 2 extra
channels on naze 32 for pan tilt camera with just 4 chanel reciever (I mean
exactly reciever you’re using)
Somehow I can’t connect my Naze32 to the computer. I have no clue how. I
have downloaded the drivers. Used windows and mac and used multiple cables
but no luck. Non with the drone powered up or without battery. I can’t find
what might be going on anywhere. Maybe you can help?
+Arthur van der Zon PS. only the blue light is on and when i move the board
the green light comes on. (when i tilt it).
Bruce,
I have a Futaba SBus 8FG firmware upgraded to 8FGS. Is the SBus what is
connected to the PPM on the Naze32 controller?
The early DYS motors had the 4mm shaft and short leads with the bullets
already soldered on , but the new DYS motors all have a 5mm shaft and long
leads with the bullets not soldered on , so Banggoods fault for not
checking they are sending out all the same . I do love these motors , when
cobras first came out they were a budget motor , and now they are raved
about , I think these are the next great motor .
Yet another question: do you do anything special with the spinner nuts to
keep the CW props from spinning them off?
Hi Bruce, first of all thanks for the “making of… series”. One question,
when looking to other building descriptions it´s recommendet just to use
one ESC for powering the NAZE and not connect all +- 5V. What is your
comment on this. I´m using the AFRO 12A too.
It’s a good idea to set failsafe on the Naze too, for example if your
signal wire was to come loose etc.
where did you get that servo switch cable
Just worked out that the Orange 410X CPPM receiver is mapped on AETR1234
can i use a kk2.1 board
why did you throw the quad at first launch
You are awesome
Heh, Wife cam.
Shouldn’t it be Sheila cam? XD
Hi Bruce could you share your tuned pid settings? Would be very helpfull
Can anyone help, im having some trouble with my quad build in that when I
took it for a test flight it rose up and hovered fine but after a few
seconds one of the motors seems to drop and it flips without any input. I
tested the motors on the computer and notice that when I rise them just
above threshold such that they start spinning, the problem motor however at
the lowest setting will oscillate/vibrate back and forth for a few seconds
before spinning with the rest of the motors. As well I also notice that the
esc on the problem motor briefly flashes red at the same time that the
motor momentarily drops. I’m running the same dys motors with Afro 12A escs
and the naze. Any ideas what the problem might be? And whether it sounds
like it’s the motor or the esc that is in fault?
Hmm.. I see you are using a 4 channel receiver… how are you still able to
assign a switch for different flight modes? Pitch,Roll,Throttle, and
Yaw… would a switch be another channel? I am confused.
