Mini quads are awesome. So durable, and so much fun. I wouldn’t call this “racing” – it’s just tooling around like idiots – but that doesn’t make it any less entertaining.
We are flying custom made frames (http://untestedprototype.com) with Openpilot CC3D and Naze32 control boards. Video is all 5.8 – mixture of Fatshark/ImmersionRC and Boscam. We got a fair bit of interference but flying through it is part of the challenge and fun.
The music is an old jam with friends called Lap 17. I’m on bass.
Very nice video Mark! Great footage & excellent editing.
that’s just awesome Mark 🙂
Very cool
FREAKING AWESOME.! glad there were no spectators with those projectiles
zipping around
There were a few but they wisely kept their distance – it was just the
pilots in the line of fire. 😀 But these things are fairly small and light,
they wouldn’t hurt you too much, nowhere near as much as a bigger quad.
LOL.. I know. I fly a s800 with Gh2 for video productions.. it should not
“mix” with humans. have been practicing with a Horten-X which is about
320grams and also can be bend back in shape after wipeouts.. Hope this
could be a spectator sport, want to see 4ch live streaming of all the quads
in the race on the web.
yea baby! yea great stuff peops 🙂
Great footage Mark !
Cheers mate! You have to join us for the next one!
Yeah multiple feeds on a big screen would be so cool…
I’ll be there 😀
I am thinking a quadcopter race park needs built. Do both flat out races,
as well as skill races with obstacles, etc. It’s like a real life video
game. I generally do slow stable flights, but I may have to build a small
zip around quad like these.
Yep no arguments here – I reckon it’d be awesome. I’m like you, started
slow, and I’m not the best pilot, but you can get away with way more
blunders on a mini!
I agree. One question, as I am not familiar with the board, is it capable
of add-ons such as GPS, barometer, etc.?
The CC3D isn’t as far as I know, but the newer openpilot board called the
Revo will be (as well as other cool stuff). The hardware is done but they
are still working on firmware… but it will be amazing once it’s done.
Check out the openpilot website for more info.
Man that looks so awesome wish I had guys to fly my mini quad with.. great
video!
Thanks! Yeah it is so much fun hooning around with other guys. You’ll find
some folks I’m sure. Once enough people see your mini they will want one
too!
i just finished designing my own little mini hopefully i can get people
around me to start flying them.. it just looks like to much fun to miss out
on.. keep posting videos love them!
Nice work! Yeah will do. 🙂
Great vids & quads 🙂
wow, that’s fun :-)
may i ask ..what type camera u use n how u eliminate the vibration ..i dont
see any jello..anyway these is the best video chasing FPV i ever watched
and i enjoyed
Thanks! We use Mobius cameras. In this video they were hard mounted;
because it was late in the day there is not much vibration visible because
of the longer exposure times in the low light. However, we now have
vibration isolation mounting plates on little rubber grommets which do the
trick nicely even in bright light. Have a look at the description – there
is a link to my friend’s site with pictures and info.
Thanks for quick reply..i have seen ur website and i seen that u use
openpilot FC with GPS ..the FC not quite famous like multiwii,Naze32 and
APM at my region.can u tell me the benefit or review about Openpilot with
GPS..do the FC can do loiter, RTH, and how about interference from other
electronic device at a such tight space from mini quad
Openpilot has been around for a while, their stuff is very solid. The CC3D
doesn’t have any fancy features like GPS or Baro. They have a new FC called
the Revo which will support these but the software to support RTH and
loiter is still being developed.
In general though, they are extremely good control boards. Very locked in
to fly, quite easy to configure, and not prone to interference at all.
I have a Naze32 as well and it is also locked in solid, but is less easy to
configure.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Cheers 8D
great vid.
what kind of mini quads are they ?
Thanks! All the info is in the video description 🙂
Was the onboard footage captured through the FPV camera or a second onboard
camera like the mobius?
Most of the footage is from the Mobius – some is from the Boscam HD19 too.
But we all fly with separate FPV cameras and the Mobius now.
looks awesome what is your setup for this frame mybe i will build the same
setup
I want to go to there.
Feel like a real combat pilot quadrocopter!

That looks amusing! Are you the developer? It’s very fun in real life 😉
+Mark Cocquio I’m a developer, the game is also funny)
im about to build a mini quad, should i pick CC3D or Naze32?
Both work well, but Naze32 is cheaper and flies slightly better in general.
Slightly harder to set up though, but for the price, there’s no comparison.
Thank you, and awsome flying btw:-)
Thanks mate! I’ve gotten a lot better since then… there’s nothing like
durable minis to improve your skill with by taking more risks!
I’ve been flying a 450 with 700kv motors, its getting a bit boring. After
watching your and more racing videos im for sure building a fpv racer:-)
ENDOR!
Sometimes it feels like that!
Amazingly it’s a year since we shot this, just at the start of the mini
craze. They’ve come a long way since then (as has my flying – check out the
accompanying crash reel :)).
Where do you buy these drone????
It’s all in the description 🙂
Hi Mark, just wanted to thank you for this video. I first watched it about
a year ago having started flying a Hubsan X4 and it was the first time I
had come across mini quads. After months of research I built my first mini
quad and have since built another two. I dread to think how much this video
has cost me in the course of a year but thank you all the same for getting
me into the hobby!
+seebuyfly Hey you’re most welcome! We try not to think about how much it
has cost us all. It’s amazing see how far it’s come in the less than two
years that mini quads have been around.
What’s the lap record around there mate???? oh and one last thing…. HOW
HIGH!?! :)
+FinalGlideAus Haha, a lot bloody quicker than it was two years ago! 🙂
Freaking love this video beyond all bounds of reason and sense!
HAHA..Awesome to se where its now at..from when it started..so good..I remember one of Chads vids from here..he was lapping dudes..great vid Mark!
