2018: 4in is dead

Great Intro! Appreciate evidence for predictions for direction of smaller builds. Also, could you do a review of Guardian XO robot arms? TY
Jon e5 what degrees did you use for the mamba (the orientation of the stack)
The mounts are at a 45 degree angle, so you would adjust the gyro in betaflight to compensate +-45 deg depending on if you have it tilted to the right or left.
lol, aint that how it always goes
@Josh S yep, i think i had it -45 degrees on the yaw. I tried both till i got it to rotate right on the main page of betaflight.
Thank you! Those look really cool
@Jon E5 FPV Drones If you think about it, my old Goby 180 is as heavy as my 5in Flosstyle, lol. It also needs the juice from at least a 1300mah lipo to fly well.
@Josh S ok thanks
This Compares to the new GEPRC Dolphin 153mm 4S with 1507 x 3200kv motors with a dry weight of 136 grams. Think there will be a lot of new 4″ quads out this spring. The question that you brought up is can they take a beating into gates.
I respect your choice and performs well, I am a weight freak myself but on 4 inch T-mount you are limited to ONE single prop for now. but it’s very easy to adapt a normal prop to T mount and you can use proper 4 inch like the hq 4043 props on those motors, and still have the weight under 250g.
I also think you can run motors like rcinpower 1506 3000kv, they weight 1,5g more, with normal shaft you can use all the very good props that came out in the last 2 years for a lot more performance.
Sick flying, dude! ?
Great review!!!
Just did a build on this today ..nice frame ..I used betafpv new 1505 motors on it …. flat out rocket
Been very curious about those! They look awesome as well.
Thanks MC!
Very good points, it is def still possible. I am thinking the magic number is 135-145g weight. If you can manage to fit everything in that range, you should be good to roll with most 850mah packs. I am hoping they make a couple props with a 3 blade T mount.
We have been discussing viability of these for racing in my local chapter. Tatuu has a 1050mah 4s pack that weighs about 120g w an xt60, so you could get away with that if you needed more juice, but quad would need to reduce to about 130g.
more on this one to come, hope to get it on the track soon and see how it does.
For sure, i will be getting that Dolphin soon (on the way), and will be taking both of these to the track and see how they do. I expect good results performance wise, will come down to durability.
@Jon E5 FPV Drones look at this post on rcgroups, how to mount a normal prop on T mount.
Great video and sick flying! That thing looks awesome. ?

Man, loved the intro. “Twig Mutant, BOOM!!” awesome. Tooth picks are getting popular probably due to this FAA BS poking at the hobby side of Droning. Thanks for the preview. Liked and subbed “-)
Thanks a lot man. Appreciate the feedback. Lots more cool stuff coming up. And hopefully have a video of soon getting this one on a track.
Thanks a lot man. Appreciate it. Have a good one
I think the future is sub 250. And you can make a well speced 4inch within that. You can make a 5inch one but your really compromising to get it there. As such I think 4inch is a good choice. Ill be taking my ix4 along with my 5 inchers to the races and really compare.
Hey. Thanks for the the great video ??
I have an extra set of 1408 4000kv.
I thought these might be to high kv for a 4” and 4s. What would you suggest in this case with motors ?
Bi-blade 4” and maybe 3s with three blade props ? Thanks pal

If you have 4s packs I would try it. Maybe set an 80% throttle cut and see if motors are hot and what kinda flight times you get.
If they are cool, can work your way closer to 90%.
If not, 3s should work fine as well.
My buddy making a micro 4s long range. He used betafpv new 1505 motor but used an 850mah 3s pack and 4” bi blade for 10 min flight
Jon E5 FPV Drones Thanks ? I’ll try it. Lots of flexibility with it. Throttle limit yes good one.
Plenty of spare parts all I need is the 4” frame. ?
Nice review
Thank you sir!
in 2 months i went through 2 mamba f405 4 in 1 esc and 1 f.c. and 2 tinyhawk s at least got my money back from emax but wont be using either companys ever again!
I like your reviews! I just watched the Michael Rollins show, and I been kicking around the idea of reviewing fpv related items. I buy enough stuff to do personal purchase reviews, and surprisingly 1 company has reached out for me to try something out. (Suprising because I dont post regularly) Do you have any advice for me before I actually Start? I do not know how to edit yet, I can muddle my way through it. Do you have an editor you would suggest? Thanks a lot!
Thanks man! Main advice is just to do it. Get started, record something and dont wait for a year thinking about the idea and doing nothing.
I use davinci resolve, which is a free full featured editor. I have used most of the ones out there (and used to TA a video production class), and even if I had to pay for it, it is what i would still use.
The best way to get better is to do it. You could plan your first video for 3 months straight, trying to get everything perfect. Or you can make 10 videos in that 3 months, and while the first few may not be perfect, I can almost guarantee that that 10th video at the end of month 3 would be better than the single one you spent all that time thinking about. It really is something you improve up with time.
Give it a shot! You may have some valuable perspectives to share with all of us. Ill be glad to watch.
wow, that is some serious bad luck. I have generally had great luck with both of those companies. What are you switching over to?
@Jon E5 FPV Drones lmao, Ive already done that, but I did get almost 500 in that time.
Let us know what kind of results you get.
I’m already going to these lighter builds just in case everything goes south with those FAA rules.
I just love where the hobby has come in the last 3-4 years. Wow. We now have 4” finally performing great and 3” that can hit 100mph+. Think ima stop building 5” for a bit and go back to my origins with micros and ultralites. I’ve got the Flightone diatone gtb339 on the way and now looks like ima build a 4” lol and with fl1 and diatone looks like it’s gonna have a mamba stack in it ?
Also I see betafpv has a new 3” twig xl made with racerx and a new 4” but the frame for the 4” doesn’t look to me to be too sturdy. I donno but who knows it may actually work well.
Regulation will not take me anywhere but to guerilla warfare!
Jon, please for 2020… adjust your sound levels when editing your videos. Raise up the levels when you’re talking, and drop the music levels to match. Thanks!
Will do. Thanks.
this is more like a 3 inch . i have the frame and it compares too my other 3 inch frames identically

It is very close to the 3″ version of the Twig, but just enough space to swing a 4″ prop. The extra disc surface area of the 4″ prop adds a good bit of speed and power, while not adding much weight.
@Jon E5 FPV Drones I see.
As far as sub 250g goes I think we’re stuck with 4in for now. My favorite quad right now uses the same motors and props.
Awesome! What kinda weight are you getting with that setup?
236g with 850mah 4s. Though if I were to build it now I’d use the hglrc zeus35 and get the 6s version of the motors.
I’m wondering if this same frame and motor setup would work on the new 20a aio whoop boards like the betafpv? I know beta has a 5” now but I would think the Emax 1408’s would pull a few more amps than the 1505’s betafpv uses. I donno I could be wrong tho. With the build cost of these now being much cheaper than a 5” I think for 2020 I’m going back to micros. Already have a HX100 and a gtb339 and a primo build all running Falco on both. But I wanna push the limits of 3” and compare it to my old geprc sparrow frame build with a hglrc f428 stack and the old Emax 1306 4000’s. It’s heavy but flys great. Even with wore out motors and lipos lol.
I from talking to RacerX that he has been running that setup with the Emax 1408’s on 4″ with no issues. I would totally feel comfortable doing that. I believe GepRC has a 20A version that is $12 less. I would likely do that.
Im flying the Druckbär-frame including a runcam-split and can stay under 250g with 5in-props and 650mAh pack (3S). And if you look at the options it is possible go up to 6in with it. With this light weight it is possible to use very small motors and not so big batteries. (and of course lower rpm with bigger props which reduces noise)
Hi Jon. Do you recommend these motors for the 3” twig xl with 4s ? Was Wondering if it will have enough power with the smaller 3” prop. Thanks man

Yes will work great on that setup as well. Pretty close to what the Diatone GT R349 uses.
Jon E5 FPV Drones excellent!
Thank you
Sweet twig ?
Sweet twig ?
Thanks man!
How do you prefer this to the 5inch podracer. I need new packs and wonder if i shpuld just dive into the ultralight 5 inch
I use the same 850mah packs for both. Or a 1050mah 4s. This one is actually a little more Controllable but the 5” is a bit faster.
