I gotta do this for my drone.
That’s excellent, it would be even better if someone could set it up like the hellgate buzzer. The spec’s list that the Bluetooth module is only for Iphone4S/5/IPad, Android 4.3, it sounds like they’ve not yet updated the APP for newer phones
Wasting 50mA just for the voltage divider? Nah!
How fast is shipping on your site?
check out the VIFLY buzzer and HELGATE buzzer they are awesome !!!! im gonna buy 4 VIFLY buzzers this friday for my 4 quads
Thanks DroneMesh for this video! 🙂
Here’s what Google had to say about Bluetooth range…
What is the maximum range of Bluetooth?
With class 1 Bluetooth devices transmitting at 100mW, which have a standard range of approximately 100 meters or 328 feet, range is comparable to that of an 802.11b WLAN device. Class 1 devices are most commonly implemented in devices where power is plentiful, such as laptop and desktop systems.
What is the range of Bluetooth 5?
The Bluetooth 5 spec allows low-energy transmissions to sacrifice data rate for more range. A lot more range: up to four times the range of Bluetooth 4.2 LE, for a maximum of around 800 feet. That’s a theoretical maximum, mind you.
So, if you think a mere 800 feet is good enough go for it, but most Bluetooth devices DON’T USE 5.0, so most would have about 100 meters range…that’s it!!! 🙁
Still, I think the very best Locator available is only about $9 !!! Here’s a link to how he recommends you do it:
With this GPD locator, that weighs just a few grams, you are able to essentially track your quad to anywhere in the world! I found a You Tube video where another guy showed us this and he had GPS coordinates on the screen, showing where he crashed. I put them into Google maps and Goggle Earth and it showed me the exact spot he crashed at in the park he was flying at – In Australia! I am in the USA. I was able to see right where he was flying half way around the world! Can’t beat it and they’re dirt cheap. And, with Goggle Earth, I could see the trees, and area he showed in his You Tube video!
Honestly, anything recommending Bluetooth is simply not going to be adequate. I’ve had drones get out of range and take off on me and end up a long, long distance from where I thought it was going to be. And, no way in hell any Bluetooth device would have helped in any way, shape, or form. Sadly, it would have been worthless.
I had a beeper on my Emax Hawk 5. I was flying it quite a ways out and all of a sudden a strong gust of wind took it just outside of the FrSky XM+ receivers range and I lost control and it went down. I was freaking out, packed up my backpack and carried my chair all the way over to where I thought it crashed. I knew I was in or around this church parking lot. I looked and looked for about and hour. They had nice landscaping and big huge bushes that I combed through. I couldn’t hear the loud beeper at all! I thought the battery had been thrown so I had no beeper.
A really nice woman came out of the church and asked me what I was doing. I told her and she asked “Do you think it could have gone on the roof?” I said sure because their roof was huge! She said they had 110,000 sq.ft. It was 3 or 4 stories high and massive! She said “want to check on the roof? I have access to it” I said that’d be great and we scaled some bolted on steel ladders to reach the roof. She went one way and I went the other. I came around the corner and she had my Hawk 5 in her hand! The buzzer was going off, but because it was up on the 4th floor roof, there way no way to hear it. Nor hear these newer buzzers that have their own battery in case the quads battery gets thrown. So, no buzzer would have been able to lead me to my Hawk 5!!!! And, certainly, no little bluetooth. Use those for your keys and pets.
But!!!! The GPS Locator would have got me to about 3- 6 feet from my quad. And, definitely steered me right to their massive roof. I got lucky that this woman just happened to see me searching through their bushes and asked if she could help me. My quad ended up being close to a 100 yards from where I though it crashed! So, buzzers and especially bluetooth are ok for close proximity flying, but these quads can go far, far out of their ranges so they becoming totally ineffective real quick.
I suggest you watch JJRotoGeek’s great video on this BEST of locator’s. And, the bonus is it’s also the cheapest, probably the lightest, and it’s super easy to install and use. I bought 3 of them and I’ll be using this. With coupon code I got them for about $9 bucks each!
I haven’t look into it much, but I think the latest Betaflight has a return to home function too. I’ll have to see if that will work!
Good Luck 🙂
one time I wound my quad by using the signal strength from my phone to my GoPro
What is the range in open field?
Fantastic work, DM! ?
The name of the little battery charger module is TP4056. I use them A LOT in my projects, they’re awesome!
Just a few infos that can be useful when using it: as you saw, it only protect the battery and charge, it doesn’t step up the battery voltage. Second, it limits the output current to 1a. So if you try to power something that pulls more than 1a it won’t work and you can even burn the TP4056. (A good solution for that is using an 1s BMS with higher current protection and a TP4056 module without protection.) Finally, the TP4056 pulls 1a to charge the battery too… (I made a 6 cell battery charger using one TP4056 for each cell and it burned a lot of 5v adapters of mine here. LOL)
Why the charging circuit? Why not just run the BT module from the 1S and charge separately?
i mean, its cool and all but a buzzer is way better, this doesnt let you know where it is, its just let you know how close is it to you, while a buzzer gets you directly to your quad
If using a coin cell battery, you could get rid of the charger, and design a 3D printer case that would be much smaller. I might have to try that… 🙂
Great tutorial. Good concept and use of the technology.
As useful as this is, a battery backed buzzer I think would be a better option. There are ones that weigh in around 4g, work as a normal buzzer and sound when the battery is unplugged (some are as cheap as the components listed for this build). Happy to provide a link to one if asked.
I knew you was a younger cat. But I had a feeling that it was possible you could’ve been one of them old folks that just had young voices.
Welcome back drone mesh. This is why I am here. Thanks for the work on this.
I love DIY projects like this, have you tried the USB SBUS receiver I mailed you? 🙂
Those resistors are burning energy and a diode should be better. The absolute maximum voltage for the board is probably near 3.9V.
Could you use the bluetooth functionality to connect to the FC?
you might have some Hungarian blood in your vein? szo memoria:)
