On September 30, 2011 at 11:08am, Derek Deville’s Qu8k (pronounced “Quake”) launched from the Black Rock Desert in Nevada to an altitude of 121,000′ before returning safely to earth. Above 99% of the atmosphere the sky turns black in the middle of the day and the curvature of the earth is clearly visible.

I know,….I just really meant “looks like”.
according to the info page the top speed of this thing is about
950m/s…damn
16:04 it looks like it’ll land on Jupiter
this is the best video which attracts me so much. the video of the year.
just wondering how it could fly across the pacific ocean.
What is the silver/white object that passes the screen from 3:56 to 3:57?
Too high to be a plane. Could it be Mercury, Venus etc.
Good question, I saw it too. I’m thinking it could be the moon, because
Murcury or Venus would be too hard to see with a camera.
Very, very great.
Congratulations to all
Amazing footage, really quite stunning. Did it drop a long way before the
parachute came out because it came down pretty fast?
What is that white figure in space at around 5:08 – 5:10 ?
Nose cone
I see it !! Aliens homie !!
AMAZING! The closest I’ve ever come to experiencing a ride on a rocket! I
find the high frequency noises at around 4:07 from the flipHD microphone
interesting. It almost sounds like radio frequencies of some sort.
“Man, that sucker got outta here in a hurry, didn’t it? Anything that
travels that far oughtta have a damn stewardess on it, don’t ya think?”
AWESOME!
What sort of permissions do you have to get to launch this?
u the man!!!
Amazing. Why don´t you share some figures about this flight. Max altitude?
Top speed?
still looks flat for planet of 25.000 miles round,
That is sick man!
Leave me a comment
Thanks man. Glad you enjoyed it. Get involved.
+d3deville checking for flat earth theory-seems to be true that Terra is
flat :)))
Wow! That is powerfull man !
which fuel? potassium nitrate with sugar?
Just a suggestion for any future videos-
It’d enhance the viewing experience of the videos if there were a
acceleration/velocity/altimeter window showing the readings in real time.
This one was a great success. I sort of would like to see such a blast take
off over lots of places- Fishers Island NY showing Long Island Sound and
then eventually Block Island, NYC, Boston, Nova Scotia and possibly even
Bermuda.
But…I suppose it’d be too much to ask to cease all flights in and out of
the Northeast for a half hour or so.

Dam the world looks flat wtf?
+shanebh007 it seems so
Yup. It seems so…
Amazing work and accomplishment by your team..hats off to you. I noticed
during take off and throughout the duration of the flight that the rockets
roll seemed to be fairly stable. Did you use roll control system?
At 6:55 and again at 9:39 Earth becomes Convex to Flat to Concave wow,
exposing the fish eye/ eagle eye lense used to fake Ball Earth.
Indeed
Wonder how much it costs in total?
+Ivan Huang Wondering the same.
which fuel? potassium nitrate with sugar?
yeah buddy
what kind of motor did you guys use? It would have to be a high N or
something like that in a minimum-diameter body.
Fish-eye lense? the curvature in the film turns to flat and then concave
for a moment showing that the camera can’t be trusted to give us a accurate
view of the horizon of the earth.
