I’m feeling more and more confident with my R9M ( https://www.banggood.com/FrSky-R9M-900MHz-Long-Range-Transmitter-Module-With-R9-MM-416CH-Telemetry-Receiver-for-RC-Drone-p-1354233.html?p=LM11044296190201604E ). My quad is getting more and more ready for long range. I have added a gps module, but it died at the second flight. I will add a better one. This time i have made two flights, one with a high altitude, the other one with low altitude at the same route. The RSSI is much better on the high altitude as expected. At the low altitude the RSSI dropped twice. I’ll try the new EU Beta Firmware next time.
Hopefully that the RSSI dropes are fixed.

I have problems getten my rssi correct on my osd.
When i discover new sensors to rssi pops up and say its at 100%
In the osd it say 212%rssi.
The rssi in the mixer tab is set to aux 8 because thats a must in Flight1.
The rssi is working because when in walk away the rssi is getting less.
When i lower the offset in the input tab to -100 the rssi value is still 112%
I have connected the sbus to a rx and the inverted s port to a tx.
I have followed the correct instruction from mr bardwell get rssi on osd video.
Using flex firmware 180926 beta do you know whats the problem?
New beta firmware is out to improve the situation on failsafe at close distance. I agree with the comment about crossfire…I retreat I’ve spent money in this garbage system. It’s not reliable and you can’t trust it to fly long range with a quad.
Im failsafing at 25 meters even on 1w, can you link me all the firmware i need to make it work its frustrating i live in europe, already broke a motor testing the r9m with r9mm on taranis qx7 2.2.3
Put your GPS and Compass up on a proper stalk to elevate it above the Quad, you should have at least 12 Sats minimum.
No point doing range tests when the GPS isn’t even working properly.
I can get a lot more range than this on my quad using an XM Plus, which in a Fixed Wing is good for 6 kms, even using a standard Taranis antenna.
The R9 will evolve and it will get better, but a Quad will always be the most challenging environment, particularly if you dont get your RX antenna placed correctly.
I have the R9 Combo too, but Im using the directional Moxon TX antenna on 868mhz.
I fly my GPS Quad on iNAV….it works fine, try it. You dont need Flex to get decent range BTW.
Thanks for the share again on your experiences with R9. Broke my antenna the other day at the ground plane, so time to order one of those T antennas I think.
Thx. for sharing your results!
have you heard about 2.2.3 firmware for the nirvana ?
What a perfect spot to do range tests!!! Great video! I notice u have gps but no signal. have u tried using the gps return to home? this is whats stopping me from range testing this system because so far when it failsafes even just a blip it then disarms. Also i do find flying higher makes a difference!
Great video. Very usefully
Hi, I have today run first time with R9M it was so bad 🙁 I just posted my video.
On stock antennas range was to poor !
Do you try distance with stock TX antenna ? go to my video to see how signal drops.
Also your video is so better 🙂
Nice flight 🙂
My verdict is it’s a bag of shit for quads but great for fixed wing. Get low to the ground and go behind something and it’s instant failsafe. Tried EU and fcc and the result is generally the same even using the super8 and T antenna. Range check confirms it’s not null points. Seen it happen at 75m. Given the micro crossfire bundle is such good value anyone would be mad to invest in this currently on multiple quads. The difference is night and day. I’m going back to the XM+ which has never let me down
